DEFINITIONS OF ADOLESCENT AND YOUTH

There is no universally accepted definition of either adolescent or youth.

United Nation Fund for Population Activities

Adolescent - Includes persons aged 10-19 years.

Youth - Includes persons aged 15-24 years.

Young People - Together adolescents and youths are referred to as 'young people' encompassing the ages 10-24 years.

In India National Youth Policy 2003 states that :-

The youth in the country in the age group of 13 to 35 years.In this presentation the UNFPA definition of adolescent and youth has been considered.

The adolescent population is nearly 21 percent which is highest among 6 populous countries i.e. China, United States of America, Indonesia, Brazil, Russian Federation and Japan.
