My Question:

Does holding a cell phone close to your face 6 hours or more per day cause a risk of cancer in your future?

My Hypothesis:If people spend 6 hours or more per day on cell phones, then they will have an increased risk of cancer, because of radiation waves absorbed in brain and facial tissues.

Why do some people say cellphones cause a risk of cancer?

Cell phones cause a risk of cancer because of the radiation waves that they produce.

Page 4: Cell Phones and Cancer Risk

Background on radiation waves:

Cell Phones emit radiofrequency energy, a form of non-ionizing radiation. Tissues nearest to where the phone is held can absorb this energy.

Why should people be concerned about link between cell phones, radiation waves and cancer?

➔The number of cell phone users has increased rapidly.

➔As of 2010, there were more than 303 million subscribers to cell phone service in the United States. This is a nearly threefold increase from the 110 million users in 2000.

➔Globally, the number of cell phone subscriptions is estimated to be a mindblowing 5 billion.

➔8 out of 10 teenagers (80%) have cell phones

➔Students spend average 9 hours per day on cell phones

Possible effects of radio wave absorption:

➢ increase in brain tumors

➢ increase in tumors in the face or neck

What do the studies show?

Some studies show that cell phones could cause cancer. But other studies show that they don't cause a risk of cancer. This shows that there might or might not be a risk of cancer. For example:

➢ people who began using cell phones before age 20.A study in Sweden found statistically significant

trends of increasing brain cancer risk for the total amount of cell phone use and the years of use

among

➢ NCI's Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) Program, which tracks cancer

incidence in the United States over time, found no increase in the incidence of brain or other central

nervous system cancers between 1987 and 2007, despite the dramatic increase in cell phone use

in this country during that time

ResultsThe results show that there is no risk of cancer after all. Now we know that we don't have to worry about the risk between cell phones and cancer risk. I got these results from information on the internet.
