About Me

Everybody’s been an artist ever since they were young, but not everyone can maintain their interest in expressing themselves through the art pieces they create. Fortunately for me, I’m still passionately in love with playing around with different medias to create lovely art pieces that reflect how I feel.

I’d have to credit my brother Kurt and my curiosity, for it is what sparked my path to enjoying art. I’ve always had art classes in school since kindergarten, but I felt no passion for it until one day after school. I remember I was around 5, and my brother and I had nothing to do when we got home, so we played around the house, opening the fridge to find food, chasing each other around, watch some t.v., and we even opened drawers to see the treasures that were hidden inside. I found a drawer of my mom’s art tools for Chinese painting, and I was really absorbed into the contents, so I called my brother over. Without knowing, we sat on the floor, fooling around with the black ink, the beautiful paint, paint brushes, and scroll paper until our parents came back home from work. After experiencing all the joy from this incident, I’ve immediately fell in love, and enjoyed creating artwork that communicates my ideas ever since. I hope you enjoy flipping through the process recorded in my sketchbooks of my Grade 10 art course.

Unit 1: Triptych For this unit, we were to create five “squares,” and pick three that we felt were the strongest pieces and turn it into a triptych. We had to maintain a consistent theme throughout the pieces, and I chose lace. At first, I was going to play with the idea of using studs because of their edgy vibe. However, as my idea of raising awareness of the safety of girls developed, I chose to use lace. I think they represent the female population better.

Unit 2: Chinese Zodiac For this unit, we were to pick one of one out of the twelve zodiacs that appealed to us the most. I chose the dragon because intimidating character, sharp teeth, and cold, serpent like eyes.

Here is the “stencil” that I’ve created on tracing paper. I used the cheap carbon technique to transfer the print onto the different squares that I’ve worked with. As seen in the previous page, I changed my design. I thought that painting a more focused area (the dragon’s face in this case) would make a greater impact. By doing so, one is able to see all the details of the dragon’s face.
