Thank youOver 8,700 toys were

collected through theMarine Corps League’sToys for Tots Campaign.

Because of the generosi-ty of North Iowa, approxi-mately 1,700 of our disad-vantaged North Iowa chil-dren received toys thisChristmas.

Without the support ofmany volunteers, organi-zations and businessesthat have participated inthis campaign, the MarineCorps League would nothave been as successful.Truly, Toys for Tots is acommunity effort. Specialthanks to Kay Rathmannand KIMT Television 3who gave us much-appre-ciated support and public-ity.

A toy may seem unim-portant to some people, but to a child at Christmasit is the most importantthing in the world. A shinynew toy sends a message toa needy child that some-one cares, that he or shehasn’t been forgotten. That the magic of Christ-mas hasn’t passed him orher by.

We sometimes hear —especially when a poten-tial donor is trying tochoose between two ormore worthy charities, oneof which is our Toys forTots — they say; “It’s just atoy. With all the problemsfacing the children inNorth Iowa today, whatdifference does a toymake?” Well, I submit thatthe answer is “hope.”Think about it; how manytimes can a child miss outon the simple joy of a toyat Christmas before he orshe begins to lose hope?

We know from thesmiles on children’s facesand from the gratefulappreciation of their par-ents that the simple gift ofa shiny, new toy — some-thing many take for grant-

ed — can make a tremen-dous difference in the lifeof a child. And hope iswhat the Marine CorpsLeague is giving to needychildren of North Iowathrough the Toys for Totsprogram.

Thank you for support-ing the children, for sup-porting the Marines andfor supporting Toys forTots.

nator, Marine CorpsLeague
