The Family would like to thank everyone for your earnest prayers, love and support throughout the years. Our

prayer is that Chad’s legacy of faith, strength and courage will continue to bless others far beyond our wildest

imagination. Special thanks to Dr. Sylvia Swilley, Dr. Murray Kwon and Dr. Ali Nsair for caring for Chad as if he

were their son, brother or relative, as well as taking as much time as necessary to discuss and make sure that

we were comfortable with every decision made on Chad’s behalf. We are eternally grateful for the entire

UCLA Medical Staff and will never forget the world-class treatment received. We would also like to thank thePetSmart Corporation for supporting this family in non-traditional, highly unconventional ways that have long

since been extinct (if ever existed) in other corporations. Your continued acts of kindness will never be

forgotten.

In lieu of flowers, it is our request that donations be made to the UCLA Adult Transplantation of Heart & Lung

Program, managed by the UCLA Foundation. Please make your donations online at: www.giving.ucla.edu/

Charles “Chad” Wesley Washington IIIwas born on May 26, 1977

in Los Angeles, California to

Rhonda and Charles

Washington, Jr. Chad was asole surviving triplet,

destined to be a medical

miracle far beyond every

doctor’s prediction.

 As a young child, Chad

attended St. Jerome

Elementary School and was

a member of the Boy Scouts

of America. He loved to

travel and always

reminisced fondly of the

annual family vacations that

he took with his parents and

sister.

It was also as a young

child that Chad developed

his love for cooking. Having

been grounded from outside

activities on one particular

weekend, Chad began to

experiment in the kitchen

and the result was

greatness, followed by

countless unforgettable

meals for his family and

friends.

Chad attended

 Alexander Hamilton High

School, where he met

the love of his life, Kara.

In 2005, Chad received

his Bachelor of Artsdegree in

Interdisciplinary Studies

from California State

University Dominguez

Hills. He had a definite

passion for kids and was

able to play an instrumental

role in the lives of severely

disabled children at James

Mcbride Special Education

Center in Los Angeles,

California from 2000 to2006.

 After six years of

friendship, which led to five

years of dating, Chad and

Kara were united in

marriage on July 5th, 2003.

Having long, strong

marriages to look up to on

both sides of the family, and

a union firmly rooted in faith,

friendship and love, their

marriage was preordained

for greatness. In August

2006, Chad and Kara

moved to Arizona in order to

start a family and enjoy life

in a more relaxed

atmosphere. Much to their

excitement, in August 2008,

they were blessed with the

birth of their son, Amare

Charles. From the second

he entered the world, Amare

and Chad had a very special

bond. Chad was more than

willing and happy to stay

home with Amare until he

reached 18 months. They

would go on father son fieldtrips to the Little Gym, the

library and every grocery

store in town. Chad was

quiet in nature, but would

never hesitate in letting you

know how he felt when it

came to his only son. Their

father-son bond will never

cease to exist, but will

continue to grow stronger in

 Amare’s heart.

 Anyone who knew

Chad, knew that his number

one hobby was cooking.

Outside of church, the

kitchen was his sanctuary.

He had countless signature

dishes but was especially

known for the magic that he

could work with prime rib,

barbecue, and grilled

vegetables.

There really are no

words to describe how

amazing Chad was. His

patience was of a

supernatural order.

Having struggled with a

heart condition his entire

life, he never complained.

He would find the positive

in every single challengethat he faced. Once,

when filling out the

registration form to see a

new doctor, after

checking 75% of the

“condition” boxes, Chad

still took the time to thank

God for the boxes that he

did not have to check.

Chad was a miracle man

from day one. Having

touched the lives of somany people, many who

never even had the

opportunity to meet him,

having stole the hearts of

the entire staff at UCLA

Medical Center, and having

left a lasting impression of

love on his entire family,

Chad’s legacy will live on

forever.

Chad is survived by his

wife Kara, son Amare,

parents Rhonda and

Charles, sister Giavanni and

her husband Lyndon, father-

in-law and mother-in-law

Samuel and Judith Brown,

extended siblings Kim and

Mel, Keith and Kari, Kelley

and Doug. Also, nieces and

nephews Alex, Kiersten,

Terrell, Taliyah, Frankie,

Dallas, Sterling, Kayla, and a

host of aunts, uncles,

cousins and friends. Chad

may not be here with us

physically, but his spirit of

greatness will live on in our

hearts forever.

I have fought the good fight,

have finished the race, I hav

kept the faith. 8 Now there is

store for me the crown of

 righteousness, which the Lor

the righteous Judge, will awa

to me on that day—and no

only to me, but also to all wh

 have longed for his appearing

D ear  Chad From the time you

were born, you

embarked upon amission as a trulyspecial and giftedindividual.

For every physicalchallenge that waspresented, youseemed to have beengifted with talents that

more than offset thephysical shortcomings.

Your character, charm, sensitivity, andother abilitiespermeated the lives of everyone that had theprivilege of meetingand knowing you.Your family wasalways in awe of themanner in which youcarried yourself andconducted your family’s affairs.

You were alwayscaring and concernedabout the well being of others, even in your

darkest hours. Thiswas evidenced by themany events of healthchallenges where youalways made it a pointto think about andpray for those aroundyou that you felt were

more in need thanyourself. Not only did

these individualsbenefit from your selflessness andcaring spirit, the healthcare providers werealso affected by thisgenerosity of spirit.

As your parents, wewere truly honored to

have you as our son.The privilege of escorting you throughthis transition isbeyond measure.Witnessing thecourage that youdemonstrated daily inany endeavor strengthened us andincreased our faith. We have learned fromyou, selflessness, perseverance, patience andunconditional love, regardless of circumstances.

You are leaving amark of kindness,

gentleness,perseverance,determination andlove. In particular,

Amare, the product of your union with Kara,is a spitting image of all the characteristics

that you embodied. Amare will go forth as

your ambassador exemplifying thestrength of Chad.

While your transitionto a higher planeappears to conflictwith “the natural order of things”, we are filledwith the understandingthat, in fact, everythingis in order. Your work

on this earth is done, and Heaven hasreclaimed one if itsTREASURES. Your legacy will live onthrough your familyand all those whose

lives were enhancedby knowing you.

Rest well!!! We willsee you again, after our work is done.

Our Miracle Man  We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be
