Case studyAs Treasury Manager at The Vita Group I have a broad role which encompasses cash forecasting and liquidity management, foreign exchange risk management and monthly Board reporting. Moving into industry from practice I was encouraged to study for the AMCT by the Group Treasurer, who has completed the MCT, and his support, together with that of my other treasury colleagues was really valued.

Risk management was my favourite area of the course. Real life examples on translational foreign exchange risk, not only brought the syllabus to life, but has subsequently been directly relevant to my role at the Vita Group.

ACT course materials are really comprehensive. The course forum was very helpful for sharing ideas and problems with other students and the course tutors. Closer to the exams themselves the question banks with their solutions and examiner’s comments were invaluable.

Case studyThe ACT qualification is a credible way of gaining industry knowledge for those who are new to treasury but also, as it was in my case, as a means to enriching the practical experience with theoretical knowledge for a well-rounded understanding of treasury matters.

As a treasury manager at Carphone Warehouse Group I am responsible for overseeing the day to day cash management as well as foreign exchange, accounting, middle and back office operations. Given the wide impact of treasury activities on the company’s operations, it is crucial to have a strong basic knowledge in areas such as accounting, tax, business law and general economics to make informed decisions.

The CertFin perfectly fulfils this requirement. The course has equipped me with strong foundations and also the tools to communicate with other parts of business.

Case studyAs Financial Controller at Heal & Son Limited I am responsible for all areas of finance, including treasury. I am always looking at ways to develop my skills further and whilst my training as a CA covered a lot of the areas of treasury, as my career has progressed, I felt that having more detailed knowledge in this area would be hugely beneficial.

The CertITM course was extremely interesting – particularly satisfying was that the topics were areas that I was involved in on a daily basis and therefore could use the knowledge I was gaining almost immediately. Study materials are well written and the study support is excellent.

Case study In my current role as a treasury business partner I work closely with both group treasury and our businesses. CertCFF has further developed my ability to carry out my role; challenging myself to look at my work from a different perspective.

The ACT qualifications have tied in to my work well; they bring together a number of key financial theories and apply them to the real world in an easy to understand way.

Being able to apply what I learn in my work has motivated me to undertake the full AMCT qualification. Case studyAs an Associate in the Debt Advisory team, part of KPMG Corporate Finance, I’ve found that the CertFMM and the wider AMCT qualification has enabled me to better meet the needs of our clients.

The blend of theory and practical application is useful, the emphasis on modelling makes the content easily transferrable for use in the workplace and also aids understanding of the more complex aspects of the syllabus.

In my role I predominantly speak with corporate Treasury professionals and now have a better understanding of the issues they face. Being qualified has given me the ability to talk confidently with clients on these matters and has helped me build relationships.

Case studyI qualified as a management accountant (CIMA) several years ago, but having worked in treasury for all of my career I felt that the AMCT qualification was more relevant to my role. I wanted to build on my knowledge to improve my understanding of the complexities of treasury management. I knew that completing this qualification was important for my future career development and I was encouraged by Hunting PLC to pursue this.

The volume and content of the material on the CertICM course looks daunting, but the compulsory tuition course was structured and presented well – it really helped to underpin my understanding of the material, focusing my attention on the areas that I needed to. The course was also the ideal opportunity to network with other professionals from the banking and corporate sectors, I have stayed in touch with a number of people I met on the course.

Employers are looking for evidence of technical competence; the AMCT qualification provides this.

Case studyFinancial market risk is one of the main issues faced by multinational corporates today. Managing such risk requires a holistic appreciation of the various elements including the company’s business model, funding arrangements, local regulations as well as macro-economic factors.

CertRM equips me with a comprehensive understanding of the issues relevant to managing treasury risks. The practical nature of the course prepares me to manage real life situations faced in my day-to-day work and has enabled me to apply the framework consistently to manage the foreign exchange, interest rate and liquidity risks that are especially prevalent in the emerging markets.
