On Oct. 8, and possibly continuing on Oct. 9, the S-193 boat lock at Taylor Creek will be closed intermittently for dive work for inspection.

The South Florida Water Management District staff will do their best to lock through boats, but there may be delays. This is re-lated to the overhaul work that was done last year.

In addition there may be intermittent delays at all lakeside boats locks from Oct. 6 through the end of October. The work is related to the hoist cable replacement plan. These locks include S-135 at J&S Fish Camp, G-36 at Henry Creek, S-127 at Buckhead Ridge and S-131 at Lakeport.

District staff will do their best to allow boats to pass in a timely manner.

Hurricane shelter.• A hurricane shelter would be a quality-

of-life benefi t to the taxpayers because peo-ple could enjoy events there. And as with insurance, you hope you will never need a hurricane shelter but if you do need one, you will be glad you invested in it.

• As for drainage, the county has sought grants to help with drainage. So has the city. A lot of work has been done already. I hope both the city and the county continue to work on the drainage and to seek grants to help pay for it. I have noticed a lot of improve-ments in the southwest section that used to fl ood so badly. When a bad storm hits, there is going to be water on the roads — as there is everywhere, even in the wealthy neighborhoods on the coast — but it clears much faster now. Also, the drainage issue is not just a government problem. Many of the issues are caused by other property owners who do something that winds up backing up the water on the neighbors.

• If the state is going to give out grants and Okeechobee does not bother to apply, someone else will get the money. That state money will still be spent, just not spent in this county.

• I am not for building a multi million dollar building just because the money is available and offered; no matter whether it is county, state, or federal .. unjustifi ed, un-necessary spending is waste in my eyes no matter from which level of government it originates.

OCRA• Join the long line of parents that are sick

of the management of OCRA. From what I understand parents have gone to county commissioners, but they don’t do anything. I don’t understand how fi ghts happen on fi elds, money is missing, rules are enforced for some and not for others and leagues sign up keep getting smaller and yet the same people rule our sports fi elds.

• OCRA fall ball is so unorganized, teams are stacked and its all about who you know! It is no longer about learning and having fun. I believe that the only kids the team should have automatically on the team are the coach’s children and the sponsor’s chil-dren. The rest of the players should go into a blind draw to make it fair. They wonder why the program has gone down. They need to take a step back and go by the rules. Also they need to monitor these coaches and how they treat these kids. This will be my last time doing fall ball also spring is in ques-tion. I believe that travel ball would be a bet-ter option.

• We have no kids or grandkids in OCRA now, but the problem with some teams be-ing “stacked” has been around a long time. When the teams are fairly evenly matched, the games are a lot more fun for the kids and for the spectators. No one wants to watch a team dominate every game. One-sided games are boring games. The kids on the “stacked” team don’t learn or improve their skills because they don’t have any real com-petition. The kids who have to play those “stacked” teams get very discouraged. This is why professional sports have drafts, to try to even out the teams and keep the game interesting and challenging.

• OCRA is not a county program. The “C” stands for citizens, not county. So for anything to change, the parents need to get involved, go to the meetings, get someone new to run for president and get someone elected who will make the changes they want. It is your organization. Take it back. Turn it into a program that is dedicated to helping the youth and teaching real sports-manship. Hold those in charge of the fi nanc-es accountable. Complaining won’t bring change. Getting involved can.

Drowning• The canals sit right behind the homes

on the lots in Treasure Island. Accidents happen, regardless of the “what ifs” and the “I would’ve, could’ve and should’ve.” This young child’s death has affected all who were involved with this tragedy.

Lake level• It think it is good the lake level is up. It’s

back to where it was in 2000 when I fi rst saw the lake, almost to the parking lot and not a lot of vegetation.

• All the coast does is complain. Wait un-til the dry season and watch out how quickly they start begging to open the locks.

Compliments to long-time volunteer for B.R.A.T.

I’m writing with a HUGE thank you to long-time volunteer for B.R.A.T. (Build-ing Relationships Among Teens) Club teen dances. Bill Casian has volunteered with the support of the Okeechobee City Chief of Police Denny Davis since the very beginning and has only missed one teen dance in eight years due to surgery. Bill called from the hos-pital after his surgery to remind the club that he could not make it one Saturday. He is so dedicated to our efforts and has been a tre-mendous help to our club.

B.R.A.T. Club could not provide the monthly dances and entertainment without the help of local business volunteers and sponsors. The Okeechobee County School Board provides the facility for the dances, Okeechobee City Police and/or Okeechobee County Sheriff provides an on-site offi cer for the entire dance, Matt Buxton provides sound equipment and DJ, the many folks that help get the word out; Okeechobee News, WOKC, Okeechobee The Magazine, Okeechobee Main Street, Chamber of Com-merce, Mr. Kenworthy and Sharon Vinson. Also, thank you to the dedicated volunteers who provide six hours of their time for each dance to decorate, set-up, supervise, serve and clean-up!

It takes a village to raise children, and I thank everyone who contributes! Business-

es that help with sponsorship for the dancesare: Ding-A-Ling Deli, Dominos, Publix, Beef‘O’ Brady’s, Papa Johns, Buxton-Bass Funer-al Home, Waste Management, Walpole Inc.,and Rodeo Life USA.

The next teen dance (Ages 10-16) isthemed for Halloween and will be held atthe Freshman Campus on Oct. 25 from 7-10p.m. Cost is $7 which includes pizza, soda, chips, costume contest and prizes! HOMECOMINGContinued From Page 1

By Eric KoppOkeechobee News

Offi cials at the Okeechobee Freshman Campus (OFC) will make the fi nal determi-nation on the fate of a student there who al-legedly brought alcohol to school.

School Resource Deputy John Fisher, from the Okeechobee County Sheriff ’s Of-fi ce (OCSO), stated in his report that he was told Friday, Oct. 3, about the alleged booze. The student had allegedly poured alcohol

into a bottle that also contained a popular soft drink.

When Deputy Fisher queried the student about the bottle, the student said he had already drank it and had thrown the bottle away. The student reportedly put the booze into the soft drink earlier that morning, be-fore he came to school.

The deputy went on to state that a fe-male student at the school also drank from the bottle. She allegedly told Deputy Fisher when she drank from the bottle she spit it

out “... because the alcohol was too strong in it.”

The deputy indicated he searched the trash for the soft drink bottle but could not fi nd it because the trash had already been emptied. Because of that, he has turned the case over to school offi cials.

Assistant Superintendent of Schools Joni Ard said, without specifi city, in cases like this the student who brought the alcohol to school could face alternative placement or even expulsion.

“Generally,” she said, “we look to alterna-tive placement. Every infraction is different and it depends on the circumstances sur-rounding it.”

Alternative placement means the male student would be moved to the Okeechobee Achievement Academy.

She went on to say school offi cials would treat this like any other investigation. They will speak with all the witnesses involved and come up with a determination of the most appropriate way to handle the case.

Report: OFC student brought booze to school

By Eric KoppOkeechobee News

A local woman was more than just a little sur-prised when she returned home to fi nd her house in total disarray and a man in her shower.

When she confronted the man, he came out of her bathroom clad only in a pair of shorts. Justin Cole Simmons, 32, then

began to holler at her and chased her out of her home, stated an arrest report. Once outside, Simmons allegedly caught up to the woman, took her to the ground and started choking her.

Because of that, stated Okeechobee County Sheriff ’s Offi ce (OCSO) Deputy Brant Harden, Simmons was later arrested on a felony charge of battery by strangulation. He is being held in the Okeechobee County Jail on $5,000 bond.

Deputy Harden stated in his report when

he met with the victim “... she was crying and had blood on her face ... .”

As it turned out, the blood actually came from a cut on the woman’s right wrist, stat-ed the deputy. The victim also had a mark on her face but it was not bleeding, Deputy Harden pointed out.

According to the deputy’s report the woman had to “sweet talk” Simmons into letting her go. Once he did that, Simmons left the home. He was later arrested in the 8000 block of U.S. 441 S.E.

Deputy Harden said Simmons was found

“... trying to conceal himself inside a silver

van.”

Simmons, stated the report, does yard

work for the victim.

The woman was checked by emergency

medical personnel from Okeechobee Coun-

ty Fire/Rescue but she refused to be taken to

the hospital.

She also reportedly told Deputy Harden

that nothing was missing from her home.

Mayer was found Friday, Oct. 3, in a pond at the Oasis Village, 1601 U.S. 441 S.E. He went on to say the elderly woman was found around noon near the pond’s bank.

“Actually, she was at weed level,” he added.

According to the M.E.’s report the cause of death was drowning. The report went on to state that a contributing factor in her death was severe coronary artherosclerosis, which is also known as hardening of the arteries.

Handling the investigation was OCSO De-tective Cari Arnold.

In her report, Detective Arnold stated that it appeared as if Ms. Mayer had been doing some gardening.

“In a direct path from the body towards the house I observed grass, weeds and dirt piled up where it appeared she had been

doing some gardening in her back yard ap-

proximately 20 feet from the water,” stated

the detective’s report. “It appears she was

gardening beside a power junction box.

There were drops of what appeared to be

blood on the power box by the east hinge.”

Detective Arnold went on to state she

entered the woman’s home and nothing ap-

peared to be out of place. She said a large

jewelry box had not been touched and a

dish containing quarters beside her bed also

had not been touched.

“Due to lack of evidence to suggest theft,

or forced entry, I have no evidence to sug-

gest a crime was committed,” stated Detec-

tive Arnold.

The woman’s drowning was the second

in just four days.

The other was a 2-year-old toddler who

drowned Sept. 29 in a canal along S.E. 19th

Court.

When you are sick or need to see a doctor, you likely do not feel or act like your

normal ‘healthy’ self. Whether you are experiencing fatigue, dizziness, nausea, or a host of other symptoms, your ability to thoroughly communicate about your condition and comprehend the doctor’s medical advice may be compromised. This is just one reason why it is benefi cial to have an existing relationship with a Primary Care Provider, before you actually need one. Another benefi t to having an existing relationship with a Primary Care Provider is having a baseline point of reference for your physical health (for example your weight, cholesterol & blood pressure). This knowledge, as well as you and your family’s medical history, can help promote an accurate diagnosis and help proactively monitor patients’ risk factors. Generally a patient’s overall comfort level and confi dence in their physician is increased when the patient has an existing relationship with the physician. With this increased confi dence, comes trust. When patients know and trust their physician (vs. meeting the physician for the fi rst time when they are sick or need healthcare) patients can more easily and openly communicate ALL of their health and wellness concerns. Certainly patient outcomes benefi t when physicians have

Having a Primary Care Provider is important, even if you are healthythe whole picture of their patient’s health. One of the reasons people give for not proactively seeing a doctor is their lack of time. If you think you are too busy to have your cholesterol levels checked, just imagine how your schedule will be affected if you suffer a heart attack? Another reason people give for not visiting a doctor annually is that they are worried about what the doctor, lab results or a screening may reveal. Ignorance is not bliss, when it comes to your health. Studies have shown that early detection and treatment are critical to a successful outcome, whether the diagnosis is breast

cancer, diabetes or heart disease. A very popular reason for many people to avoid scheduling a wellness visit is uncertainty regarding the cost and how to pay for the visit. Yet, many insurances, as well as Medicare, often include an annual wellness visit in

their benefi ts. Contact your insurance provider to learn if annual wellness visits are included in your health plan. If you have a healthcare question or need help fi nding a doctor, Raulerson Hospital provides a free 24/7 Consult-A-Nurse hotline: 863-763-9228

OYFL teams take two of fi ve from Poinciana squad

By Charles M. MurphyOkeechobee News

Yearling Middle School played a rare dou-ble header in volleyball Oct. 2 due to some recent cancellations and came away with a split, defeating Glades Day School while los-ing to Oslo from Vero Beach.

Yearling won the fi rst match over the Lady Gators thanks to an impressive perfor-mance at the net and a solid service game. The scores were 25-11, 18-25 and 15-9.

In the fi rst game Yearling jumped out to a 9-1 lead behind nine service points from Mallorie Thomas which included three aces. A block and kill by Lyn’d Lewis kept YMS

comfortably ahead. Samantha Ruiz and Thomas added kills after the Gators cut the lead to 16-9. Thomas fi nished off the game with three points including two via the ace.

Glades Day raised their level of play in the second game with better serves and fewer mistakes. Thomas had two early points and Lewis two service points as the Lady Bulls built a 7-6 lead. An 8-3 run by the Gators put them ahead and they never trailed by fewer than fi ve points down the stretch. Ashley Bowers had a nice kill for YMS.

The third game was mostly controlled by Yearling. Thomas hit an ace and two service points by the Gators put Yearling up 8-4. Lewis added two service points leading to

a Glades Day timeout. Thomas hit a winner, and Lewis two kills at the net to clinch the match.

YMS coach Kellyann Campbell said she was a little disappointed that the match went to three games but she was OK with how the girls responded.

“We kind of gave them a pep talk after the second game and told them you played so well in the fi rst game. They came back strong and played well,” she said.

Against Oslo, the Wildcats brought a terrifi c intensity and really pushed the Lady Bulls to raise their level of play. The fi rst game was back and forth and was tied at 16 before Oslo went on a 9-3 run to win 25-19.

Oslo completed the sweep with a tight 25-23 victory in the second game. Thomas had a kill and two service points early for YMS. Ashlyn Lafferty and Lewis added kills to keep YMS close early. Oslo built a 21-14 lead before YMS made a comeback. Mariah Wooten had three service points including two aces, and Bowers added a kill to pull YMS to within two points.

“Oslo wasn’t a win but we looked good and were OK with that,” Campbell said. “It has been a crazy season with the weather and cancellations. We didn’t want to have four games in a week so the girls pushed through and showed us they could handle the two games.”

Starts with the letter A: Adam Bryant Memorial Minimal Regatta

Okeechobee News/Katrina ElskenTin Fish Restaurant’s regatta booth featured a mermaid who received a special award for her costume and makeup.

There were plenty of free activities for children at the regatta, including the popular ‘paint your own wooden pirate sword’ booth.

The Okeechobee News sponsored Picture Perfect 4-H Club’s boat. Their theme was Team Auto Focus. A roll of fi lm painted on the sides of the boat featured photos club members took at the 2013 minimal regatta.

Okeechobee News/Katrina ElskenThe theme for the 2014 minimal regatta was “starts with the letter A.” The Mix-on group’s Alladin-themed booth was a crowd favorite. At race time, the top of the lamp-shaped boat was removed revealing the boat captain’s seat. The Adam Bryant Memorial Minimal Regatta, which raises money for scholarships, attracted about 120 entries this year and featured races for four age groups as well as a two-person race and a special “tug boat” category for boat captains over 250 lbs.

Jeff Reno’s boat, the U.S.S. Adam, was decorated as an aircraft carrier, com-plete with handmade aircraft.

Frank AltobelloBy R.O. AckermanThe genial young owner of our commu-

nity’s Western Auto Associate Store hails originally from New York City, where he was born in 1924. He received his education there, before moving to Niagara Falls for a two-year period.

In 1940, Frank entered the U.S. Army. Serving with the infantry, he saw combat ser-vice during World War II on Attu and Kiska in the Aleutian Islands, in the Marshall Is-lands, Leyte and Luzon in the Philippines and on Okinawa. He was wounded in the Philip-pine campaign and again on Okinawa where he received three machine gun bullets to the right leg. The Purple Heart and his other well-earned decorations re ect this widespread service of his country.

It was at Ashford General Hospital in West Virginia that Frank rst met the girl who was to become his wife. Ethel was the army nurse who cared for him there. His medical discharge came in April 1946, and they were married in November of that year.

For two years Frank owned and operated a restaurant in Charleston, W.Va. where he also attended business college.

In November 1948, the Altobellos came to

Okeechobee. Frank opened the Western Auto Store in September 1950.

Since then the civic-minded veteran and business leader has served two years as di-rector of the Okeechobee Chamber of Com-merce, and also was president of that organi-zation for two years.

The Altobellos have a charming four-year-old daughter, Mildred Frances. The family at-tends the Catholic Church.

A typical American, Frank’s a baseball fan, and enjoys working in his yard during days off. He has contributed much to the community, and for its future welfare he ad-vocates good, clean honest government above all else.

Okeechobee News: Celebrating our Centennial!Okeechobee News: Celebrating our Centennial!

Red Cross work at the Women’s Club hit a new high this week. Mrs. E.M. Meserve, chairman and director of surgical dressing operations reports that on Wednesday, 2,109 surgical dressings were made and for the rst three days of this week the total was over 4000.

The wonderful spirit shown by the women of Okeechobee and the willingness to give so freely of their time speaks well of the patrio-tism of the women of this country. The quota for Okeechobee is very high for the month of October and it will take many hours of labor to reach this goal.

Mrs. Meserve states that she has plenty of room and will welcome additional help on either the morning or afternoon shifts. There has apparently been a slight misunderstand-

ing among some of the lades as to eligibility to participate in this work. It is not necessary that you be a member of the Red Cross in or-der to help in this project. Any lady who has time to give one or more hours each day or two or three days a week is welcome. Work-ing hours are 9 to 12 and 1 to 5.

Mrs. Meserve wants to thank the many businessmen who so willingly help in every way possible. Mr. Mason stops daily and leaves ice so that the ladies may have ice wa-ter at all times. This he does at his own ex-pense.

Mr. Culbreth runs slides at his theater and makes announcements whenever called upon.

The beautiful Red Cross made and hung at the entrance of the Women’s Club was a dona-

tion by Mr. Tony Davis. All this ne help is what goes to make one

hundred percent co-operation and is highly appreciated by the ladies.

The latest contribution has just been made by the colored women of Okeechobee. Want-ing to do their part, they have formed a club and have offered their services, reporting af-ternoons to clean up the work rooms after the day’s work is nished. Mrs. Meserve states

this will be a wonderful help and appreciates their thoughtfulness and willingness to do their part very much.

Those who have joined in the branch of the service and the days they will work are Agnes Steward and Marguerite (Monday); Ida Bry-ant, Rena Johnson (Tuesday); Louise Cooley, Annie Tindell (Thursday); Tommie Bass, Laura Bryant (Friday); and Lurena Jackson and Beulah Jackson (Saturday).

The Florida School for Boys at Okeecho-bee is now well into its third year of opera-tion, and since its opening on July 17, 1959, 1,004 boys have been admitted to the school and of these, 643 boys have been returned to their homes.

Of the 1,004 boys admitted, 568 were white boys while 446 were admitted to the colored department. The 643 discharged boys were broken down into 369 white and 274 colored.

On July 17, 1959, 50 white boys were transferred from the school at Marianna, and over a period of four months, 75 more white boys and 100 colored boys were received from Marianna. The rst colored boys came

to the school on Aug. 2, when 50 arrived from Marianna.

The rst boy admitted to the school di-rectly from the Juvenile Court was admitted on Sept. 18, 1959, from Broward County, and more came between the transfers from Mari-anna until the total of 175 white and 125 col-ored were received.

Up until the four new cottages were put into operation this year, the 300 boys were housed in 12 cottages, seven in the white de-partment and ve in the colored. The addition of four new cottages gives the white depart-ment nine cottages to house 225 boys, and the colored department seven cottages to house 175 boys.

Okeechobee Arrest Report

By Eric KoppOkeechobee News

Deputies from the Okeechobee County Sheriff ’s Offi ce (OCSO) had another busy week in which they handled some very seri-ous cases and made a number of arrests.

They also answered some calls that, with-out doubt, left them scratching their heads and wondering “Huh?”

SHOTS FIREDDeputy Timothy Porter was called to an

RV park shortly after 5 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 1, in regard to a shooting.

Upon his arrival, the deputy learned that a man had fi red a couple of shots out his bedroom window.

The man said he “... heard a prowler so he opened his window and fi red two rounds into the ground.” He went on to tell the dep-uty he didn’t actually see anyone, but was awakened when “... he heard moaning and groaning ...” outside his window.

Deputy Yero Todman reportedly found two 9mm casings. Deputy Todman also dis-covered one of the rounds fi red by the man did, indeed, go into the ground. The other round, however, struck the man’s trailer.

Deputy Porter explained to the man while he had a right to protect himself and his property, he should be more careful when handling a gun. The man was also told to call the sheriff ’s offi ce if he thought some-one was breaking into his trailer.

The man “... advised he understood,” stated Deputy Porter.

WHO LET THE DOGS OUT?Deputy John Hazy was asked Monday,

Sept. 29, to settle a dispute between neigh-bors dealing with a fence between their re-spective yards.

Neighbor X was complaining because Neighbor Y had nailed some plywood on his side of the fence and he wanted it removed.

Deputy Hazy then went to speak with Neighbor Y who did not deny nailing the plywood to his side of the fence.

“He said the fence was too high off the ground and the neighbor’s dogs kept put-ting their heads under the fence and mess-ing with his dogs,” stated the deputy.

Apparently, continued Deputy Hazy, this has been an ongoing feud since the fence was on Neighbor Y’s property at different points because “... it did not run straight.”

In regard to the plywood, Neighbor Y told the deputy the fence was not damaged by the wood and he was leaving it there.

“I informed both parties this was a petty complaint and would have to be settled in civil court,” stated Deputy Hazy before leav-ing.

WHERE THERE’S SMOKEThe complaint to end all complaints last

week actually ended without taking up a deputy’s time.

A dispatcher received a call around 12:14 p.m. Monday, Sept. 9, from a woman com-plaining that a man had taken her Black & Mild cigars. That man, continued the caller, was wearing a black hoodie, blue jeans and a black and gray tank top.

As the dispatcher prepared to send a deputy, the woman called back and said the man had returned her Black & Milds.

“She advised the problem is solved and we can cancel,” wrote the dispatcher in her report.

IT REALLY HAPPENED...

The Okeechobee bowling team split a match at home versus Port St. Lucie on Oct. 2, the Lady Brahmans prevailed 4-3 while the boy’s team fell 4-3.

OHS coach Carole Olney said it was a good match which was pretty even for both the girls and the boys. She said she would

like to see the Lady Brahmans concentrate on spares and avoid open frames. Ashley Byrd led the team with a 337 series and a high game of 340. Catherine Zukosk led PSL with a 317 series and a high game of 184

The boys went to the very last frame to decide a winner in a back and forth match with the Jaguars.

Olney said the boys also missed a num-ber of spare opportunities but kept the

games close until the end.Brian Chapman had a great day with a

432 series and a high game of 229. Andrew Brancacceia had a 280 series to lead PSL.

“Brian was on fi re for much of the day. He is starting to fi gure out the Okeechobee lanes and has become more consistent,” Ol-ney added.

The next home match will be Monday, Oct. 13, at Martin County.

Ashley Snyder had 13 service points, six kills and nine aces to lead Osceola Middle School to an impressive 25-7 and 25-6 vic-tory over Storm Grove in middle school vol-leyball Monday in Okeechobee.

Osceola moved one step closer to a win-ning season as they secured their fi fth vic-tory in eight decisions.

Osceola took control from the start with leads of 7-2, and 9-1 in the fi rst game. Snyder started the match with two aces. Alexi Mor-gan added two aces and four service points before the Sting Rays could force any kind of volley in the match. Other highlights includ-ed winners by Snyder and Aubrie Hataway, and two service points by Delaney Jones.

In the second game Osceola jumped out to a 13-1 lead as Snyder added four service points and an ace and Kirstie Crosby fol-lowed with ten points including two aces as the Warriors built an 18-2 lead. Emily Rho-des added an ace and Snyder fi nished off the match with three points at the service line.

OMS coach Lauren Throop said she was pleased with the effort her team showed in this match.

“They came out playing really hard. I think we had a good practice last week that got them back in the groove,” she said.

Throop said the confi dence builder came at a good time as the team takes on local rivals, Pemayetv Emahakv, who remains undefeated and Yearling. Osceola played in

Brighton on Tuesday and travels to Yearling on Thursday.

Throop said she was pleased that the team did a better job of communicating on the court.

“I was actually surprised because we’ve struggled real hard with communication. We called more balls and were really happy with them today,” she said.

“We work on serves at every practice. You can’t win a point if you don’t have a strong serve.” Throop praised the team’s serves as they were deep and hard to handle most of the match.

“I think when we work together we play a lot better. When we stop talking we fall apart,” Snyder said. She felt the team did well because they communicated on the court and played together like a team should,

The diminutive Snyder impressed with her leaping ability with one jump kill at the net. She also had a strong serve all after-noon.

“I have been working on my jumping and I think I can jump pretty high now. My serves can be nerve racking but once you get used to it and have experience, serves become easier and second nature,” she said.

Osceola Middle School scored four goals in the second half to break open a tight game as they defeated the Storm Grove Sting Rays 5-0 to remain undefeated in middle school soccer action Monday.

Osceola received goals from Jesus Moji-ca, Alejandro Bucio and Gage Ingram in the latter stages of the match to overwhelm the Sting Rays.

Coach Jorje Botello said the team got off to a slow start but woke up a bit in the second half. He said Storm Grove battled throughout the game and kept his team on their toes.

“I want you all to be at your best at all times. If you want to earn playing time you have to be tough and willing to battle,” he told the team afterward.

Goal keeper Mark Homes had few chanc-es in the match and admitted it was tough to keep sharp with not a lot of action in the Warrior end of the fi eld.

“We started off really slow but we ended up coming back and doing well at the end. We have a really good team. We just have to

get more practice in,” he said.Homes said he basically tries to stay at his

best and keep himself in front of the ball at all times in the Warrior net.

Fullback Gage Ingram made some nice one on one moves to score his goal in a one on one opportunity with the Sting Ray goal keeper in the second half. He said he was trying to score one goal for the entire match.

“I was a bit of a ball hog but I needed to get a goal and I did what had to be done,” he added.

Ingram said he is inspired to be a better soccer play by his mother, Assistant Coach Bobbie Jo Ingram, and his older sister Nikki Ingram, who played for the Lady Brah-mans.

Ingram said the entire school is excited about how well the school has done this year.

“We need to restore some respect to Os-ceola and get a nice banner in the gym,” said Ingram.

Wing Jesus Mojica had some excellent corner kicks in the match that set up his teammates for easy chances on net. He said

the entire team did well but he’d like to see improvement in passing and communica-tion.

“I get tired but I don’t really show it. I keep pushing and pushing and give every-thing that I have,” he added.

Osceola plays at Yearling on Thursday in a match between undefeated teams. Year-ling has dominated the series in recent years. Match time is 4:30 p.m.
