Smoking PolicyAs we enter another school quarter, this is a good opportunity to remind our campus about Washington State’s Smoking Law. While smoking is allowed, it is prohibited in any indoor public space and is prohibited within 25-feet from building entrances, exits, windows that open, and ventilation intakes (Washington State Law - Chapter 70.160 RCW Smoking in Public Places). Successful implementation of this law is a shared responsibility of our campus including students, faculty, staff and visitors.

If you choose to smoke, please utilize the smoking shelters placed throughout campus and do not smoke within 25-feet of building entrances. Smokers are also encouraged to be kind and respectful of those who are sensitive to smoke and are concerned about the adverse health effects of second-hand smoke.

To learn more about Washington State’s Smoking in Public Places law and to access resources to promote good health and avoid smoking and tobacco, visit Smoke Free Washington by clicking here: http://www.smokefreewashington.com/

Do you ride the bus? Do you drive to campus?

If you answered “yes” to either of those questions, you may be interested in getting a safer way for pedestrians to cross 16th Ave SW. We have had several ‘near miss’ incidents reported by drivers AND walkers. We want to make our campus community aware of some options available for the city. As they say, the squeaky wheel gets the crosswalk! You can suggest a crosswalk location at: http://www.seattle.gov/transportation/MarkedCrosswalks.htm#howtoor you can email Neighborhood Traffic Operations staff at [email protected], call them at 206-684-0353, or go to their website, Neighborhood Traffic Operations.

Another way the city takes crosswalk request is through “Walk and Bike Seattle.” They can be contacted by email at [email protected] or you can call the Pedestrian Program at 684-7583.

And when you contact the city, you’ll want to have a few facts handy: our address is 6000 16th Ave SW, 98106; our road is one lane each direction separated by a median and the closest cross street to the bus stop is SW Graham. Thanks for helping to keep the campus community safer.
