This year, Waldoboro Day is celebrating (and raising funds) to KEEP THE WATER CLEAN ON THE MEDOMAK and preserva-

tion of our shellfish harvesting industry. The proceeds of some of the events will help with testing the flats after a major

rainfall with the hopes of opening them quicker for harvesting, and other ways to KEEP THE WATER CLEAN ON THE MEDO-

MAK. Clam harvesting is a major source of income for our residents and neighbors, and helps drive Waldoboro's economy.

So stop in to Waldoboro Day and take some time to enjoy the festivities and, of course, the clams --- DELICIOUS!

HOFFSES SELECTED AS GRAND MARSHAL FOR WALDOBORO DAY PARADE When the Waldoboro Day parade kicks off on June 20

th, Ralph Hoffses will be the Grand Marshal, accompanied by his wife

of 69 years, Gertrude. A descendant of one of the original and storied families to settle in

this area, Ralph was born in 1919, and can remember going up to town from his home on

Back Cove in a horse and buggy.

After serving in the Mediterranean with the Navy during the Second World War, Ralph

worked at the Naval Yard in Kittery and for the VA, eventually returning to settle back

down in Waldoboro. He has been a witness to the many changes that have taken place in

the area over the years.

The parade will gather at the VFW Hall on Mill Street at 9:30 on Waldoboro Day, and pass up Jefferson Street through a

town filled with music, food courts, kid’s games and crafters, then head down Main Street. This year’s theme focuses

on the need to keep the Medomak River clean and productive. For further information about the day and parade,

contact the town’s web site at waldoboromaine.org, or Clint Collamore at 832-4046
