4 February, 2014 The Evangelist

Him (proclaims the fact that Salvation is reachable by all) shall not be ashamed (in essence, says, ‘shall not be put to shame,’ but rather will receive what is promised).

NO DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE JEWAND THE GENTILE

“For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek (should read, ‘between the Jew and the Gentile’; all must come the same way, which is by and through Christ and what He did at the Cross on our behalf): for the same Lord over all is rich unto all who call upon Him (the riches of Grace will be given to all who truly call upon the Lord). “For whosoever (anyone, anywhere) shall call upon the Name of the Lord shall be Saved (speaks of the sinner coming to Christ, but can refer to any Believer and with whatever need; the Cross is the means by which all of this is done)” (Rom. 10:9-13).

THE SAINT OF GOD

As it regards the person who is already Saved who, in fact, has trusted the Lord for Salvation, which came by the Means of the Cross, he must come to understand that Sanctification comes from the same Source. Regrettably, it’s much more difficult for the Saint of God to place his faith exclusively in the Cross than the believing sinner who is initially coming for Salvation. Why? That’s a good question! While most every Believer, including preachers, who is truly Saved and has at least a modicum of understand-ing as it regards the Cross of Christ respecting Salva-tion, the truth is, modern Christians, and again we are speaking of those who are truly Saved, have virtually no knowledge whatsoever as it regards the Cross of Christ respecting Sanctification. For anyone to know the great Truths of the Word of God, those Truths must be taught

As it regards the Cross — none! But, as it regards the believing sinner coming to Christ and the Saint of God who already belongs to Christ, there is a great deal of difference. The believing sinner coming to Christ knows abso-lutely nothing about the Lord or the Cross. He just knows he’s under conviction and, as someone has said, he feels like he’s hanging over Hell on a rotten stick. All he has to do is believe in Christ and call on the Lord, and he will be Saved. Paul said:

“That if you shall confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus (confess that Jesus is the Lord of Glory, and the Saviour of men, and that He died on the Cross that we might be Saved), and shall believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead (pertains to the Bodily Resurrection of Christ, as is obvious), you shall be Saved (it is that simple!).

BELIEVING UNTO RIGHTEOUSNESS

“For with the heart man believes unto Righ-teousness (presents the word ‘believing’ in a mode of ‘thinking,’ not of feeling; the ‘believing’ has to do with believing Christ, and that His Sacrifice of Himself Atoned for all sin); and with the mouth confession is made unto Salvation (when Faith comes forth from its silence to announce itself and proclaim the Glory and the Grace of the Lord, its voice ‘is confession’). “For the Scripture says (combining parts of Isa. 28:16 with 49:23), Whosoever believes on

WE BELIEvE . . .. . . The Bible is the inspired and only infallible and au-

thoritative written Word of God. (Ps. 119; Mat. 4:4; Lk. 24:27)

. . . there is one God, eternally existent in three Persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. (I Jn. 5:7)

. . . in the Deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, in His Virgin Birth, in His Sinless Life, in His Miracles, in His Vicari-ous and atoning Death, in His Bodily Resurrection, in His Ascension to the Right Hand of the Father, in His personal future return to this Earth in Power and Glory to rule a thousand years. (Jn. 1:1-4; Eph. 2:13-18; Rev., Chpts. 19-20)

. . . in the Blessed Hope — the Rapture of the Church at Christ’s Coming. (I Thess. 4:13-18)

. . . the only means of being cleansed from sin is through Repentance and Faith in the Precious Blood of Christ. (Rom. 5:1; Eph. 2:8-9, 13-18)

. . . Regeneration by the Holy Spirit is absolutely essential for personal Salvation. (Jn. 3:5-8; Titus 3:5)

. . . the Redemptive Work of Christ on the Cross provides Healing of the human body in answer to believing prayer. (Ex. 15:25-26; James 5:14-15; I Pet. 2:24)

. . . the Baptism with the Holy Spirit according to Acts 2:4 is given to Believers who ask for it. (Acts 2:4; 10:44-46; 19:1-7)

. . . in the Sanctifying Power of the Holy Spirit by Whose indwelling the Christian is enabled to live a holy life. (Rom. 6:3-14; 8:1-2, 11)

. . . in the Resurrection of both the saved and the lost: the one to Everlasting Life and the other to everlasting damnation. (Rev. 20:5-6, 11-15)

Pray this prayer and mean it with all of your heart: Dear Lord Jesus, I now realize that I am a sinner. I accept the fact that You died for me on the rugged Cross of Calvary. I now open my heart’s door and receive You as Saviour and Lord of my life. Please take full control of me and help me to be the kind of Christian You want me to be. Amen. by capable and anointed Preachers of the Gospel. Regrettably, while the Cross of Christ is somewhat preached as it regards Salvation, it is preached not at all as it regards Sanctification; consequently, this modern generation of Believers simply do not know how to live for God. The Scripture says, and concerning this very thing:

“So then Faith comes by hearing (it is the publication of the Gospel which produces Faith in it), and hearing by the Word of God (Faith does not come simply by hearing just anything, but rather by hearing God’s Word, and believing that Word)” (Rom. 10:17).

THE CHRISTIAN IS TO EXCLUSIVELY MAKE THE CROSSTHE OBJECT OF HIS FAITH

That may seem simple and, in fact, is; however, to do so means that the Believer must lay aside every other object of faith, whatever it might be. Please note the following: The world in its rejection of God has from the dawn of time tried to manu-facture another god, a god of its own making. Believers, regrettably, have ever tried to manufacture another sacrifice, other than the Cross of Christ. But, let all hear and understand, the Sacrifice of Christ on the Cross dealt and deals with every single problem that faces the human race. Please note the following very carefully: • JesusChrististheSourceofallthingsthatwereceivefromGod(Jn.14:6). • TheCrossofChrististheMeansbywhichthosethingsaregiventous(Rom.6:3-5). • PlacingourFaithexclusivelyintheCrossofChristprovidesthemeansby which we receive what is given (I Cor. 1:17-18, 23; 2:2). • TheHolySpiritsuperintendsallofthis(Eph.2:13-18).

WHAT THE SAINT OF GOD NEEDS, THE HOLY SPIRIT ALONECAN DEVELOP

Knowing they have been changed by the new birth and, with many, even baptized with the Holy Spirit, one of the most favorite Scriptures voiced by such Believers is, “I can do all things through Christ Who strengthens me” (Phil. 4:13).TheTruthis,mostBelieversdonotevenreallyknowwhatPaulwastalk-ing about as it regards that particular Verse. He is saying that he can be abased or he can abound, whichever he is called upon to do, but only “through Christ Who strengthens me.” In other words, if he has to go hungry, that he can do with the help of the Lord, etc. As well, he can relish the bountiful Blessings that come his way, should the Lord desire such.

SIN IS THE PROBLEM

The church doesn’t want to admit that the real problem in our lives as Believers is sin. One group claims that the best way to overcome sin is to never mention it because, if it is mentioned, they say, this will create a sin consciousness in the hearts and lives of Believers and cause them to sin. So, in their thinking, the way not to sin is just simply never mention the subject. That’s somewhat strange when we realize that the Apostle Paul mentions sin some seventeen times in the Sixth Chapter of Romans alone. But, perhaps Paul didn’t have the great knowledge that some of these modern Believers have.

Others claim that once we are now Believers, sin is no longer a problem or even claim that it should not be mentioned because it may offend people. Irrespective of the foolishness of some preachers, sin is the problem. To cope with this problem, the church comes up with one fad after the other. One day it’s the Purpose Driven Life; the next day it’s the Government of Twelve; and, then the next day it’s the confession message, with the family curse following that.

THE CROSS IS THE ONLY ANSWER FOR SIN

There is only one answer for sin and that is the Cross of Christ. Paul said:

“But this Man (this Priest, Christ Jesus), after He had offered One Sacrifice for sins forever (speaks of the Cross), sat down on the Right Hand of God (refers to the great contrast with the Priests under the Levitical system, who never sat down because their work was never completed; the Work of Christ was a ‘Finished Work,’ and needed no repetition); “From henceforth expecting till His enemies be made His footstool. (These enemies are Satan and all the fallen Angels and demon spirits, plus all who follow Satan.) “For by one Offering He has perfected forever them who are Sanctified. (Everything one needs is found in the Cross [Gal. 6:14]).

THE WITNESS OF THE SPIRIT

“Whereof the Holy Spirit also is a witness to us (a witness to the Cross): for after that He had said before (refers to the fact that the Holy Spirit has always witnessed to the veracity of the Finished Work of Christ), “This is the Covenant that I will make with them after those days (proclaims its distinctive feature as being the Sanctifying Work of the Holy Spirit Who would be caused to take up His perma-nent abode in the Believer, all made possible by the Cross), says the Lord, I will put My Laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them (the work of the New Covenant, which accompanies the Born-Again experience);

A “As it regards this terrible problem of sin, the Believer, as stated, cannot bring about by his or her actions the victory that we need.”

“And their sins and iniquities will I remem-ber no more. (He has taken them all away, and did so by the Cross.) “Now where remission of these is (with all sins atoned, the argument is settled), there is no more offering for sin. (No more offering is necessary, for Christ paid it all)” (Heb. 10:12-18).

As it regards this terrible problem of sin, the Believer, as stated, cannot bring about by his or her actions the victory that we need. It is impossible! Simply put, self cannot improve self! To prove the point, let’s look at the Apostle Paul.

THE APOSTLE PAUL

The Ninth Chapter of Acts records the conversion of Paul. It is probably one of the most remarkable conversions ever recorded. Jesus Christ appeared to him in such Glory that Paul was blinded. Nevertheless, he was gloriously Saved in that phenomenal experience. Some three days later, Ananias, having been spoken to by the Lord, and according to directions from the Lord, went to where Paul was staying and prayed for him, “that he might receive his sight, and be filled with the Holy Spirit” (Acts 9:17). Immediately he began to “preach Christ in the Synagogues” (Acts 9:20). The point is this: Despite the phenomenal experience that Paul had regarding his conversion, and despite now being bap-tized with the Holy Spirit and preaching the Gospel, even then an Apostle, still, the record shows that he could not successfully live for the Lord. The Seventh Chapter of

Romans bears this out, and graphically so! This was before the Lord had revealed the meaning of the New Covenant which, in fact, was revealed to the Apostle Paul (Gal. 1:12). But, the facts are, if the Apostle Paul couldn’t successfully live for the Lord as one should live before this great Revelation was given to him, how in the world do we think that we can do what he could not do? Let us say it again: It was to Paul that the Lord gave the meaning of the New Covenant, which, in effect, is the meaning of the Cross. As the Lord gave the Revelation of the New Covenant to Paul, thegreatApostlethengaveittousinhisEpistles. Before we touch on the meaning of the New Covenant, let’s see exactly why the Believer within himself cannot be what he ought to be, no matter how hard he tries.

THE FALL

Any number of times, Paul alludes to this, but the Passage that I will now give will give us the reason for our inability, meaning that we must have the help of the Holy Spirit. The great Apostle said:

“And if Christ be in you (He is in you through the Power and Person of the Spirit [Gal. 2:20]), the body is dead because of sin (means that the physi-cal body has been rendered helpless because of the Fall; consequently, the Believer trying to overcome by willpower presents a fruitless task); but the Spirit is life because of Righteousness (only the Holy Spirit can make us what we ought to be, which means we cannot do it ourselves; once again, He performs all that He does within the confines of the Finished Work of Christ).

The Evangelist February, 2014 9

“But if the Spirit (Holy Spirit) of Him (from God) Who raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you (and He definitely does), He Who raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies (give us power in our mortal bodies that we might live a Victorious life) by His Spirit Who dwells in you (we have the same Power in us, through the Spirit, that raised Christ from the dead, and is available to us only on the premise of the Cross and our Faith in that Sacrifice)” (Rom. 8:10-11).

Let us say it again:

THE HOLY SPIRIT ALONE CAN MAKEUS WHAT WE OUGHT TO BE

Self cannot improve self, and no matter how hard we try. This means that all of the efforts, and I mean all, which ignore the Cross of Christ and Faith in that Finished Work, which then gives the Holy Spirit latitude to work within our hearts and lives, present a wasted effort. It is the Cross of Christ, which gives the Holy Spirit the legal right to do all that He does. Before the Cross, the Holy Spirit was greatly limited due to the fact that the blood of bulls and goats could not take away sins (Heb.10:4). What the Believer is facing, and I speak of that which is in the spirit world of darkness, is far beyond our capac-ity to cope. So, for the Believer to face these things with no more than willpower simply won’t work. The Holy Spirit is God and, as such, and as should be obvious, He can do anything. But, most Christians don’t know how He works. As a result, most Christians are trying to live this life without the aid and help of the Holy Spirit. Don’t misunderstand; the Holy Spirit does not leave the Believer, irrespective as to what erroneous course he might take. But, at the same time, erroneous courses stop Him from doing what He Alone can do.

SPIRITUAL ADULTERY!

In the first four Verses of the Seventh Chapter of Romans, Paul addresses himself to spiritual adultery. What do we mean by the term “spiritual adultery”?

S “Self cannot improve self, and no matter how hard we try. This means that all of the efforts, and I mean all, which ignore the Cross of Christ and Faith in that Finished Work, which then gives the Holy Spirit latitude to work within our hearts and lives, present a wasted effort.”

Paul tells us that we as Believers are married to Christ. At least that’s the way that God looks at the situation. Paul wrote:

“Wherefore, my Brethren, you also are become dead to the Law (the Law is not dead per se, but we are dead to the Law because we are dead to its effects; this means that we are not to try to live for God by means of ‘Law,’ whether the Law of Moses, or religious laws made up by other men or of ourselves; we are to be dead to all religious law) by the Body of Christ (this refers to the Crucifixion of Christ, which satisfied the demands of the broken Law we could not satisfy; but Christ did it for us; having fulfilled the Mosaic Law in every respect, the Christian is not obligated to religious law in any fashion, only to Christ and what He did at the Cross); that you should be married to another (speaking of Christ), even to Him Who is raised from the dead (we are raised with Him in Newness of Life, and we should ever understand that Christ has met, does meet, and shall meet our every need; we look to Him exclusively, referring to what He did for us at the Cross), that we should bring forth fruit unto God (proper fruit can only be brought forth by the Believer constantly looking to the Cross; in fact, Christ must never be separated from the Work of the Cross; to do so is to produce ‘another Jesus’)”(Rom.7:4).

ONE HUSBAND, THE LORD JESUS CHRIST

The Apostle said:

“Would to God you could bear with me a little in my folly: and indeed bear with me. (In

effect, the Apostle is saying, ‘indulge me.’) “For I am jealous over you with godly jeal-ousy (refers to the ‘jealousy of God’ [Ex. 20:5; 34:14; Nah. 1:2]): for I have espoused you to one hus-band (not jealous of the Corinthians’ affection for himself, but of their affection for Christ), that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ. (They must not commit spiritual adultery, which refers to trusting in things other than Christ and the Cross)” (II Cor. 11:1-2).

Let us say it again, if the Believer places his faith and trust in anything except Christ and the Cross, no matter how religious or spiritual the other things may be, such a Believer is being unfaithful to Christ. That’s what we mean by “spiritual adultery.” I should think it would be obvious that the Holy Spirit cannot rightly work in such circumstances. Yet, “spiritual adultery” is the position and condition of most modern Believers.

AN ABBREVIATED FORMULA

The following will possibly help us to understand the great Plan of God to a greater degree. It is as follows: •THECROSS OF CHRIST: When we speak of the “Cross of Christ,” I would certainly hope the reader would understand that we are not speaking of a wooden beam. We are speaking of what Jesus did there, i.e., “the benefits of the Cross.” In the Atonement, our Lord addressed every single thing that man lost in the Fall and even addressedSatanandallpowersofdarkness(Col.2:15;Eph.1:10).ChrististheSourceofallthings,evenaswehave stated, and the Cross is the Means. •OURFAITH:TohavethebenefitsofallthatChristaccomplished at the Cross, it requires only Faith on our part; however, without fail, it must be Faith exclu-sively in the Cross of Christ. To say it another way, the Cross of Christ must be the Object of our Faith. That’s all thatGod requires of us (Rom. 5:1-2; Eph. 2:8-10;Rom.4:3,14;6:11).Aswell,ourFaithmustnotbedividedbetween the Cross of Christ and other things. It must be the Cross of Christ exclusively. In fact, the only kind of faith that God will recognize is Faith, which is rested in His Son, our Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ, Who must

always be linked to the Atonement — Who He was and is,andwhatHedid, whichreferstotheCross.Everyonehas faith, but it’s not faith that God will recognize. The Cross is the Means by which we receive all things from the Lord.

• THEHOLYSPIRIT:OnceourFaithisproperlyplaced in the Cross, and maintained in the Cross, the Holy Spirit, Who works exclusively within the parameters of the Finished Work of Christ, will then go to work on our behalf. And, to be sure, considering that the Holy Spirit is God, there is nothing that He cannot do; however, for Him to do what He Alone can do, we must, and without fail, have our Faith anchored squarely in the Cross of Christ (Rom. 8:1-2, 10-11).

“CHRIST CRUCIFIED” – by J.C. Ryle

The text of this sermon was sent to me by one of our SBN listeners. As I read it, I was so blessed that I wanted to share it with all of you. It was written in the 1800s by J.C. Ryle, the first Anglican bishop of Liverpool, England. Bishop Ryle was born at Park House, Macclesfield, in 1816 to parents John and Susannah Ryle who made their fortune in the silk mills during the Industrial Revolution. Their wealth afforded Ryle an education at Eton College and Christ Church, Oxford, and supported his ambitions to take up a career in politics at Parliament. But after suffering an illness and watching his father face sudden bankruptcy, Ryle turned to the church for comfort. After hearing Ephesians 2:8-9 read aloud in the service, the 22-year-old experienced a spiritual awakening and decided to become a minister. Four years later, Ryle was ordained by Bishop C.R. Sumner at Winchester. As a parish priest, Ryle would spend the next 38 years serving congregations at Helmingham, Suffolk and Stradbroke. His roles in the church as rector and vicar eventually led to a position as honorary canon in Norwich and a tenure as Dean of Salisbury. Throughout his career, Ryle built more than 40 churches and created a pension fund for the clergy of his diocese. At the age of 64, Ryle was appointed to be the new see of Liverpool on the recommendation of Prime Minister Benjamin Disraeli and served in this position until his retirement in 1900, the same year of his death.

ChRIST CRUCIfIEd

There is no doctrine in Christianity so important as the Doctrine of Christ Crucified. There is none in which the Devil tries so hard to destroy. There is none which it is so needful for our own peace to understand. By “Christ Crucified,” I mean the doctrine that Christ suffered death on the cross to make atonement for

our sins, that by His Death He made a full, perfect, and complete satisfaction to God for the ungodly, and that through the merits of that death all who believe in Him are forgiven all their sins, however many and great, entirely, and forever. About this blessed Doctrine let me say a few words. The Doctrine of Christ Crucified is the grand peculiarity of the Christian religion. Other religions have laws and moral precepts, forms and ceremonies, rewards and punishments; but other religions cannot tell us of a dying Saviour: they cannot show us the cross. This is the crown and glory of the Gospel; this is that special comfort which belongs to it alone. Miserable indeed is that religious teaching which calls itself Christian, and yet contains nothing of the cross. A man who teaches in this way might as well profess to explain the solar system, and yet tell his hearers nothing about the sun. The Doctrine of Christ Crucified is the strength of a minister. I for one would not be without it for all the world. I should feel like a soldier without arms, like an artist without his pencil, like a pilot without his compass, like a labourer without his tools. Let others, if they will, preach the law and morality; let others hold forth the terrors of Hell, and the joys of Heaven; let others dwell on the sacraments and the Church: give me the Cross of Christ. This is the only lever which has ever turned the world upside down hitherto, and made men forsake their sins: and if this will not, nothing will. A man may begin preaching with a perfect knowledge of Latin, Greek, and Hebrew; but he will do little or no good among his hearers unless he knows something of the Cross. Never was there a minister who did much for the conversion of souls who did not dwell much on Christ Crucified. Luther, Rutherford, Whitfield, M’Cheyne, were all most eminently preachers of the Cross. This is the preaching that the Holy Ghost delights to bless: He loves to honour

foremost place which Christ Crucified should always have, from that moment a Church ceases to be useful. Without Christ Crucified in her pulpits, a Church is little better than a cumberer of the ground, a dead carcass, a well without water, a barren fig tree, a sleeping watchman, a silent trumpet, a dumb witness, an ambassador without terms of peace, a messenger without tidings, a lighthouse without fire, a stumblingblock to weak believers, a comfort to infidels, a hot bed for formalism, a joy to the Devil, and an offence to God. The Doctrine of Christ Crucified is the grand centre of union among true Christians. Our outward differences are many without doubt: one man is an Episcopalian, another is a Presbyterian; one is an Independent, another a Baptist; one is a Calvinist, another an Arminian; one is a Lutheran, another a Plymouth Brother; one is a friend to Establishments, another a friend to the Voluntary system; one is a friend to Liturgies, another a friend to extempore prayer: but after all, what shall we hear about most of these differences in Heaven? Nothing, most probably: nothing at all. Does a man really and sincerely glory in the Cross of Christ? That is the grand question. If he does, he is my brother: we are travelling in the same road; we are journeying towards a home where Christ is all, and everything outward in religion will be forgotten. But if he does not glory in the Cross of Christ, I cannot feel comfort about him. Union on outward points only is union only for time: union about the cross is union for Eternity. Error on outward points is only a skin-deep disease: error about the Cross is disease at the heart. Union about outward points is a mere man-made union: union about the Cross of Christ can only be produced by the Holy Ghost.

those who honour the Cross. The Doctrine of Christ Crucified is the secret of all missionary success. Nothing but this has ever moved the hearts of the heathen. Just according as this has been lifted up missions have prospered. This is the weapon that has won victories over hearts of every kind, in every quarter of the globe: Greenlanders, Africans, South Sea Islanders, Hindoos, and Chinese, all have alike felt its power. Just as that huge iron tube which crosses the Menai Straits is more affected and bent by half an hour’s sunshine than by all the dead weight that can be placed in it, so in like manner the hearts of savages have melted before the cross, when every other argument seemed to move them no more than stones. “Brethren,” said a North American Indian after his conversion, “I have been a heathen. I know how heathens think. Once a preacher came and began to explain to us that there was a God; but we told him to return to the place from whence he came. Another preacher came and told us not to lie, nor steal, nor drink; but we did not heed him. At last another came into my hut one day, and said, ‘I am come to you in the name of the Lord of Heaven and Earth. He sends to let you know that He will make you happy, and deliver you from misery. For this end He became a man, gave His Life a ransom, and shed His Blood for sinners.’ I could not forget his words. I told them to the other Indians, and an awakening begun among us. I say, therefore, preach the sufferings and death of Christ, our Saviour, if you wish your words to gain entrance among the heathen.” Never indeed did the Devil triumph so thoroughly as when he persuaded the Jesuit missionaries in China to keep back the story of the Cross! The Doctrine of Christ Crucified is the foundation of a Church’s prosperity. No Church will ever be honoured in which Christ Crucified is not continually lifted up. Nothing whatever can make up for the want of the Cross. Without it all things may be done decently and in order; without it there may be splendid ceremonies, beautiful music, gorgeous churches, learned ministers, crowded communion tables, huge collections for the poor; but without the Cross no good will be done. Dark hearts will not be enlightened, proud hearts will not be humbled, mourning hearts will not be comforted, fainting hearts will not be cheered. Sermons about the catholic church and an apostolic ministry, sermons about baptism and the Lord’s Supper, sermons about unity and schism, sermons about fasts and communion, sermons about fathers and saints, such sermons will never make up for the absence of sermons about the Cross of Christ. They may amuse some, they will feed none. A gorgeous banqueting room, and splendid gold plate on the table, will never make up to a hungry man for the want of food. Christ Crucified is God’s grand Ordinance for doing good to men. Whenever a Church keeps back Christ Crucified, or puts anything whatever in that

Reader, I know not what you think of all this. I feel as if the half of what I desire to tell you about Christ Crucified were left untold. But I do hope that I have given you something to think about. Listen to me now for a few moments, while I say something to apply the whole subject to your conscience. Are you living in any kind of sin? Are you following the course of this world, and neglecting your soul? Hear! I beseech you, what I say to you this day: “Behold the Cross of Christ.” See there how Jesus loved you! See there what Jesus suffered to prepare for you a way of Salvation! Yes: careless men and women, for you that Blood was shed! for you those Hands and Feet were pierced with nails! for you that Body hung in agony on the Cross! You are they whom Jesus loved, and for whom He died! Surely that love ought to melt you: surely the thought of the cross should draw you to Repentance. Oh, that it might be so this very day! Oh, that you would come at once to that Saviour Who died for you and is willing to save! Come and cry to Him with the prayer of faith, and I know that He will listen. Come and lay hold upon the Cross, and I know that He will not cast you out. Come and believe on Him who died on the Cross, and this very day you shall have Eternal Life. Are you inquiring the way toward Heaven? Are you seeking Salvation, but doubtful whether you can find it? Are you desiring to have an interest in Christ, but doubting whether Christ will receive you? To you also I say this day, “Behold the Cross of Christ.” Here is encouragement if you really want it. Draw near to the Lord Jesus with boldness, for nothing need keep you

back: His Arms are open to receive you; His Heart is full of Love towards you. He has made a Way by which you may approach Him with confidence. Think of the Cross. Draw near, and fear not. Are you an unlearned man? Are you desirous to get to Heaven, and yet perplexed and brought to a standstill by difficulties in the Bible that you cannot explain? To you also I say this day, “Behold the Cross of Christ.” Read there the Father’s Love and the Son’s Compassion. Surely they are written in great plain letters, which none can well mistake. What though you are now perplexed by the doctrine of election? What though at present you cannot reconcile your own utter corruption and your own responsibility? Look, I say, at the Cross. Does not that Cross tell you that Jesus is a Mighty, Loving, and ready Saviour? Does it not make one thing plain, and that is that if not saved it is all your own fault? Oh, get hold of that truth, and hold it fast! Are you a distressed believer? Is your heart pressed down with sickness, tried with disappointments, overburdened with cares? To you also I say this day, “Behold the Cross of Christ.” Think Whose Hand it is that chastens you: think Whose Hand is measuring to you the cup of bitterness which you are now drinking. It is the Hand of Him that was crucified: it is the same Hand that in Love to your soul was nailed to the accursed tree. Surely that thought should comfort and hearten you. Surely you should say to yourself, “A crucified Saviour will never lay upon me anything that is not good for me. There is a needs be. It must be well.” Are you a dying believer? Have you gone to that bed from which something within tells you you will never come down alive? Are you drawing near to that solemn hour when soul and body must part for a season, and you must launch into a world unknown? Oh, look steadily at the Cross of Christ, and you shall be kept in peace! Fix the eyes of your mind firmly on Jesus Crucified, and He shall deliver you from all your fears. Though you walk through dark places, He will be with you: He will never leave you, never forsake you. Sit under the shadow of the Cross to the very last, and its fruits shall be sweet to your taste. There is but one thing needful on a deathbed, and that is to feel one’s arms around the Cross. Reader, if you never heard of Christ Crucified before this day, I can wish you nothing better than that you may know Him by faith, and rest on Him for Salvation. If you do know Him may you know Him better every year you live, till you see Him face to face.

16 February, 2014 The Evangelist

J John 19:30 – “When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar (pertained to the moistening of the lips and tongue, which had dried up because of the loss of body fluid; most probably He asked for this in order that He might speak the last words), he said, It is finished (proclaims the greatest Words, albeit at great price, that any sinner could ever hear; in effect, the world’s debt was paid; every iota of the Law had been fulfilled): and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost (Jesus did not die from His Wounds; He freely gave up His Life, in fact, dying when the Holy Spirit told Him to die [Heb. 9:14]).”

“IT IS FINISHED”When one reads the Book of John one is filled with awe and wonder at the Words spoken by our Lord. Truly, “No man spoke like this Man” (Jn. 7:46). He spoke Words of Life, Hope, Deliverance, Power, and Prophecy. When He spoke, lepers were cleansed, blinded eyes were opened, the crippled walked, the hungry were fed, the dead were raised to life, and storms became calm. To the self-righteous, His Words brought a stinging rebuke but to a woman publicly shamed, His Words brought Salvation as He said, “Neither do I condemn you: go, and sin no more” (Jn. 8:11). John’s Gospel gives to us some of the most beautiful and powerful statements of Christ. Let’s look at some of them for a moment. John 3:16: “For God so loved the world, that He gave His Only Begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him should not perish, but have Everlasting Life.” John 4:13-14: “Whosoever drinks of this water shall thirst again. But whosoever drinks of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst.” John 6:35: “I am the Bread of Life.” John 8:12: “I am the Light of the World.” John 10:9: “I am the Door.” John 10:11: “I am the Good Shepherd.” John 11:25: “I am the Resurrection and the Life.” John 14:6: “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life.” John 15:1: “I am the True Vine.” John 11:43: “Lazarus, come forth.” John 11:44: “Loose him, and let him go.” John 8:32: “You shall know the Truth, and the Truth shall make you free.” John 7:37: “If any many thirst, let him come unto Me and drink.” One could go on and on, for truly His Words are the only words ever spoken in history that matter. However, I personally believe the greatest Words ever spoken by

and die on Calvary’s Cross for it was a complete Work. “IT IS FINISHED.” In closing, Bill Gaither summed it all up with these lyrics:

There’s a line that is drawn through the Ages;On that line stands an Old Rugged Cross. On that Cross a battle is ragingFor the gain of a man’s soul or its loss.

On one side march the forces of evil,All the demons all the devils of Hell;On the other the Angels of Glory,And they meet on Golgotha’s Hill.

The Earth shakes with the force of the conflict; The sun refuses to shine,For there hangs God’s Son in the balance,And then through the darkness He cries –

It is finished! The battle is over.It is finished! There’ll be no more war.It is finished! The end of the conflict. It is finished! And Jesus is Lord.

Christ were the last Words He uttered on Calvary’s Cross, “IT IS FINISHED!” No more innocent lambs would ever have to be sacrificed, for “IT IS FINISHED.” No longer would anyone have to travel to Jerusalem, for “IT IS FINISHED.” No longer would the priest be needed to place a lamb upon the Altar, for our Great High Priest said, “IT IS FINISHED.” No longer would man struggle to keep laws he couldn’t keep because the Law-keeper said, “IT IS FINISHED.”

Dear Brother Swaggart, Praise God for your Ministry. I received the CD, “It Is Finished” and it brought tears to my eyes. It is so anointed. I opened it at 6 p.m. tonight and it is now 10:30 p.m. as I keep playing it over and over. I am under so much stress right now and I am fighting depression also. This CD has calmed me down and relaxed me, and it is such a blessing. God bless you!

Dear Brother Swaggart, I have just finished reading your book on “Paul”. The book is so well written that when I was about four or so pages from the end, knowing what was going to happen to him, I started to cry. I was crying so hard that it was a while before I could finish. He became so real to me, like a part of my family, and no book has ever done that to me. Thank you so much. I have also read “David”, and have “Noah” to read after that.

Dear Brother Swaggart, I have been following your Ministry for about four or five years now. I have also purchased several books and “The Expositor’s Study Bible.” I just received the CD, “Harbor In The Time Of Storm,” and it has blessed me in ways I can’t explain! I always listen to Jimmy Swaggart Ministries (JSM) music before I go to sleep, but when I turned this on I did not go to sleep. During the last song “He Rescues Me/Through The Fire”, the Spirit of God came upon me and before the song was over I was baptized with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with

other Tongues! I had been seeking this for quite some time and I received it! I can’t stop praising God and speaking in Tongues! As I type this it is now 7 a.m., and I’m still praising God! I want to thank you, Brother Swaggart, along with all the others at JSM for bringing the Message of the Cross and giv-ing me hope and faith to keep seeking and to keep asking. It is under your Ministry that I rededicated my life and I feel like God is going to do something great with my life, not only me, but I believe an outpouring is getting ready to take place! I feel it coming! God bless you and all the JSM family.

Dear Brother Swaggart, I just wanted to take a minute and thank you and the Ministry for the Message of the Cross! I am a Me-dia Member of your church, and am Born-Again. The change in me because of studying with you daily for the last several years is overwhelming. My family have now, through your Broadcasting, become Born-Again! I don’t understand why people wish to be so argumentative with your Ministry. My family and I thank God above for your Ministry. I pray for you daily. Please keep doing what you are doing and preaching the great “Message of the Cross.” God bless all of you.

Dear Brother Swaggart, About 7 months or so ago, I was watching a “live” Sunday Service, and at the end of the Service Brother Donnie had an Altar call for people to be baptized with the Holy Spirit. He also started to pray for people who were addicted to nicotine, etc., and I have been a smoker since I was 14 years old. I am now 41 years old, and came back to the Lord after being backslidden for years. I felt Him convicting my heart, and knew right away and gave my heart back to Him. I found myself, especially this past year, really buckling down and obeying the Word of God, and I only wanted to do things pleasing in His sight. This also meant I wanted to quit smoking cigarettes, and knew that if I truly wanted to do this in my heart that God would deliver me. I said a prayer to God about this desire to quit smoking, and a few days later when Brother Donnie prayed at the end of the Service about it, I claimed it for myself right away and praise God I have not smoked a cigarette since! Not one! God completely took the desire away from me, and it was almost like I had never even smoked to begin with. Thank you Jesus!

I just wanted to quickly write and tell you how much I’ve appreciated your show, your music, and your message for the past few days. I cannot begin to tell you what a difference you’ve made in my life. It’s hard for me to turn off the TV because I don’t want to miss anything. And I don’t sleep real well because I want morning to come soon so I can watch SonLife Broadcast-ing Network (SBN) again! I have to go to work now, but I just had to write and tell you how much I appreciate everybody there, and again to tell you what a huge difference you’ve made in my life in the short time I’ve known you. Dear Brother Swaggart, I have been listening to your Podcast, “The Message of the Cross” daily for the past month, and also have your book, “Brother Swaggart, How Do I Live A Victorious

Life?” It has helped me in more ways than I could have dreamed. I was bound by believing my works could make a difference, and fasted almost in an O.C.D. fashion. I wrongfully believed by doing this “I” could bring victory in my life and others. I was wrong, and it put a weight on my shoulders I couldn’t carry, it was torment. But by hearing the “Message of the Cross,” it has opened my eyes to put my Faith in the Cross, and rightfully so. I am walking in Victory thanks to your Ministry. I am free from the chains of my works and condemnation. I can’t thank God enough for your Ministry. I thank you, and I love you and I’m praying you reach the whole world with the “Message of the Cross.”

Dear Brother Swaggart, Sir I am so happy that your Ministry is now in the UK. I started watching “Living Waters” with your grandson, Pastor Gabe, and was so blessed by the program. At the time I was going through deep depression, and nothing else that I tried could help me. But when Gabe began to play Donna Carline singing, “Robe And Crown”, I felt the depression falling off of me praise God! Then I heard your son, Brother Donnie, preaching a sermon to do with the Cross and everything just fell into place. I have since purchased some of your CD/DVD combos and bought the Giant Print Expositor’s Study Bible. My prayer is that the good Lord will keep you as you spread the Word and the teachings of the Cross throughout the UK, we need you!

Dear Brother Swaggart, When I get the opportunity to watch your program-ming, I have to tell you that you all are truly a blessing to my family. You seem to be the only “Christian” program-ming that is truly faithful to the Word of God. I thank you for your teaching (my children are now questioning me as to what you say). And Gabriel is a fiery, wonder-ful preacher as well. As for me, I have been a “fan” of Pastor Jimmy since I was a young man. You have no idea the change your programming has made in the life of my family. My wife has stopped smoking cigarettes after 20 years of being a smoker, my children are more obedient, so again I say, “thank you” for being such a wonderful blessing!

26 February, 2014 The Evangelist

“KEPT bY THE POWER OF GOD-FAITH”still living for God. And He is not just “barely hanging on.” He has been changed by the Glory of God into the mature Apostle who writes the Epistles that bear his name. If Peter’s life says anything to you and me it says, “Don’t Quit!” Peter understands, through experience that one cannot make it as a Believer unless God supplies the Power to stand. He also knows that Faith is the responsibility and the privilege granted to all Believers who desire to be “kept by the Power of God.”

fAITh hAS To hAvE ThE RIghT oBJECT

While God is more than able to furnish Power, He has chosen Faith to be the key that releases that Power. Make no mistake about this one thought: Power belongs to God Alone. It must be released from Him and come to us. We are a needy people. Christians who are truly maturing understand this concept. They grow more dependent upon God with each passing day. In order for the Believer to receive what he needs, Faith must exist and appropriate God’s Power. However, Faith must have the proper Object. Let me explain. We exhibit faith in a variety of objects every day. We sit down in chairs, but we very rarely, if ever, inspect that chair to determine whether or not it will hold us up. We sit in it by faith. We place our car keys into the ignition and turn the key, believing that the car will start. In these simple actions we are exhibiting faith. But faith in these things does not release the Power of God. God demands that our Faith be placed securely and singularly in His Redemption Plan. This Plan was carried out by Jesus Christ on the Cross of Calvary. Therefore, our Faith must ever have as its Object, the Finished Work of Christ. It is this Faith and this Faith alone that pleases God (Heb. 11:6). It is this Faith and this Faith alone that causes the Power of God to be released from Heaven to the Believer.

P I Peter 1:5 – “Who are kept by the Power of god through faith (refers to the Holy Spirit exerting His Power on our behalf, as our Faith is ever planted in the Cross [Rom. 6:5]) unto Salvation ready to be revealed in the last time (ready for the Rapture).”

fAITh IS ThE RESPoNSIBILITy of ThE BELIEvER!

The “who” of the above Verse refers to truly Born-Again Believers. Peter is discussing the benefits and joys of being Saved. One of those benefits is a Heavenly Inheritance. Peter is testifying to the many attributes of that Inheritance. In essence, he tells Believers that God Himself is standing guard over this Inheritance. He then tells the Believer that all of these benefits are obtained and maintained by Faith. Peter should know! Despite failing God on numerous occasions, the big fisherman is

god WANTS To WoRK IN yoU

Philippians 2:13 says, “For it is God Who works in you both to will and to do of His good Pleasure.” Notice that in Believers, God is spoken of as “working.” Again, in Philippians 1:6, the Bible says, “Being confident of this very thing, that He which has begun a good work in you will perform it until the Day of Jesus Christ.” Take note again that it is God working and God performing. God does not go to work in and upon just anyone. He works consistently in and for those Believers whose Faith is properly centered upon the Cross of Christ. As we depend upon Jesus’ Finished Work (He Himself said, “It Is Finished”). God works in, maintains, strengthens, and protects the Believer. In this way and in this way only, is the Believer “kept by the Power of God.”

28 February, 2014 The Evangelist

Ggenesis 12:1 – “Now the LoRd had said unto Abram (referring to the Revelation, which had been given to the Patriarch a short time before; this Chapter is very important, for it records the first steps of this great believer in the path of Faith), get thee out of your country (separation), and from your kindred (separation), and from your father’s house (separation), unto a land that I will show you (refers to the fact that Abraham had no choice in the matter; he was to receive his orders from the Lord, and go where those orders led him).”

In this one Verse, we see not only the Call of God unto Abraham, but we see the first steps of Faith of the great Patriarch. To give a little background on who Abraham was, we need to first cover the fact that he was born in Ur of the Chaldees. He was an idolater, one who worshipped idols (Josh. 24:2). In fact, there is

some inference that leads us to believe that his parents were not only idol worshippers, but idol makers. This family, including Abraham, did not make any claim to be followers of Jehovah, but according to the Book of Deuteronomy, Chapter 26, Verse 5, he was “a Syrian ready to perish.” We do not know how the Lord came to him, all we know is that the Lord spoke to him. However the Lord spoke to Abram, it must have been of a cataclysmic nature. Abram could have taken notice to the fact that no matter how many times his family had cried out to the moon god of Ur, or the number of times he himself might have asked for guidance of this false god, he had to have come to the conclusion that some-thing just did not add up. There has been no help from this erroneous, invented deity, as there could not have been any help from such, for this god did not ex-ist. But, somehow, someway, Jehovah God spoke to Abram, and called him out from where he was. While he obeyed, it does seem that there were some family issues that kept him from leaving right away. He had left Ur, and came to Haran where this rest was broken by death.

ThE CALL of god oN EvERy BELIEvER

Every Believer has a Call of God on their lives, which can be found through prayer and the Study of God’s Word. However, as it is with many of us, the flesh can easily get in the way of our following that Call. Many times, we often settle for much less than what the Lord has in store for us. The entirety of our lives must be placed in Christ, and what he did at Calvary, to see the full potential of what God wants us to have. Also, that Call, whatever it might be, will seem as if it is beyond what we could ever accomplish. But, in that Call lies not only what we must do for God, but the ingredients

Page 29: Celebrating 58 Years of Spirit-Filled Ministry Evangelist The · The Evangelist February, 2014 1 (See Page ??) EvangelistThe Celebrating 58 Years of Spirit-Filled Ministry asdlkfja;sldkf

for our growth as a Christian, and this growth comes about by and through the Person of the Holy Spirit. To tell the truth, there must be constant Spiritual Growth in order for this Work to be done. The Lord never tells us to do something without giving us the strength, Faith, and Anointing to do it.

A PERSoNAL EXPERIENCE

Growing up in a Christian home, I knew from a very young age that the Lord had Called me to preach. Nevertheless, the older I became, the less I wanted to fulfill that Call. As a teenager, knowing what the Lord had Called me to do, there were many times that I would argue with the Lord, begging Him to let me do something else. Anything but preach! The reason for that was that I felt I could never live up to the expecta-tions of my family or the people that have supported my family. I’ll never forget that night. I was driving under the train tracks that are near the Ministry Com-pound. There is a dip in the road under the tracks, on Bluebonnet Boulevard, and I was behind a few cars that were stopped at the red light. I told the Lord that I did not want to preach because I could never fill the shoes of my Grandfather or my Father. It was at that moment that the Lord spoke to my heart and said, “I did not call you to fill their shoes, I called you to fill your own.” At that moment, the Peace of God came into my heart, and immediately I obeyed that Call. It would be some years before I would begin to preach, but for the first time, I could remember there being an excitement about the Call. At the same time, I did not know in what area that He would place me in. Would I be a Pastor, an Evange-list, or a Teacher? I honestly did not know. That would come a few years later while I was sitting in my office. I was studying the Scriptures, and asking the Lord at the same time what did He want me to be. It was then that the Lord called me into the Youth Ministry. To be honest, I never dreamed that the Lord would use us to reach the world through the medium of Television, In-ternet, Radio, and printed materials, and if that would have been asked of me then, I would have thought that there would be no way. But by His Grace, we are doing what He has Called us to do.

SPIRITUAL gRoWTh

There is only one way that the Call of God and the Growth that is needed can be brought about, and that is through the Cross of Christ. It cannot be brought out in any other way. For the Holy Spirit to help us, our Faith ever must be anchored in Christ and what He did for us at Calvary. The Holy Spirit, Who is God, can only work through the legal means of the Cross (Rom. 8:2),

and cannot work outside of said parameters. If our Faith is found in anything other than the Cross, the Holy Spirit is extremely limited as to what He can do in our lives. Truthfully, there can be very little growth, Spiritu-ally speaking, if our Faith is anchored anywhere else. Some may ask, “How do I place my Faith in Christ and what He did for me at the Cross? Is there some-thing that I must do?” There is only one thing you can do, and that is understand and Believe that everything you receive as a Believer was given to you on the basis of the Shed Blood of Jesus Christ. In other words, you must understand that Christ is the Source of all Bless-ings. The Cross is the Means by which we receive those Blessings. Faith is the Key that unlocks the door. The Holy Spirit oversees everything. It is simple, child-like Faith. Jesus Christ paid it all on the Cross of Calvary, and it is through the Finished Work of Christ that we can now come boldly into the Throne Room of Grace, and find Mercy and help in time of need (Heb. 4:16). Everything comes through Calvary, and everything we receive from God comes through Calvary.

ThE CRoSS IS ThE foUNdATIoN

The Cross of Christ is the very foundation of Christi-anity. Without the Cross, it has been said, and rightfully so, Christianity is not much different than the religions of the world. Paul tells us, “For the preaching of the Cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us who are Saved, it is the Power of God.” What he is saying here is that many would look at the Cross as foolish-ness. But for those who have been Saved out of sin, and wrath to come, this is the only Power that could break the chains and shackles of sin, and the grip of sin over our lives. That Power is found in the Holy Spirit. The Gospel of Jesus Christ has changed the lives of un-told millions of people down through the centuries, and will continue to do so. It alone has the Power to break the bondage of sin, and destroy the grip of sin, and to change the heart of the individual for time and eterni-ty. It is that which all other Bible Doctrines can be built upon. Without the Cross, we have nothing. With the Cross, we have everything.

To be continued… In Him,

Pastor Gabe

32 February, 2014 The Evangelist

The “Hebraic Roots Movement’s” most subtle, yet frightening, issue is its attraction to Jewish mysticism. The lure they’re using to attract Christians, and newly con-verted Jews, is sentimentally towards Israel and everything Jewish. Because Jewish and liberal Christian communities agree the Bible Canon can be perpetually interpreted they will accept a variety of interpretations as inspired.

dECEPTIoN

The process of deception always leads one to looking at self instead of God. The extra-Biblical writings associ-ated with the “Hebraic Roots Movement” (HRM), such as the Midrash and Talmud, places the focus on the reader and his/her personal struggle to reach an acceptable moral application of the text. The reader becomes drawn to use their inner struggles and personal experience to interpret Scripture and, thereby, become susceptible to

others defining Scripture by experience. Personal reflec-tion replaces Biblical Text while mystical insight is given to unsuspecting believers.

moRE dECEPTIoN

The HRM has different levels and depths of belief. Similar to the “Word of Faith” teachers, HRM teach-ers embrace different aspects of their Movement for their own benefit. For example, there’s a well-known ministry that has committed itself to being a friend of Israel. The efforts of “Christians United For Israel” are limited to political support and good deeds towards Jews. Evangelization of Jews is prohibited. In another popular ministry the emphasis is on esoteric explana-tions of the Bible with Talmudic comprehension. Only the teacher has this deep insight.

ThE zohAR?

The HRM tries to define God through seeking a deeper meaning of creation. This prominent concept is derived from the Cabala (Kabbala) and its teachings of Jewish mysticism, which have gained acceptability and has aroused the curiosity of Hollywood stars. Cabala’s roots can be found in Hellenistic (Greek) astral mysticism. Adherents, through meditation and the use of magic formulas, journey through and beyond the seven astral spheres; “the astral world takes on the form projected by man’s consciousness.” According to the Zohar, the preeminent book of Ca-bala from which Rabbis are said to have developed from the Talmud, as documented in Webster’s Secret Societies and also in the Jewish Encyclopedia, the “Mysteries of Wisdom” were imparted to Adam while he was still in the Garden of Eden, in the form of a book delivered by the Angel Razael. From Adam the book passed on to Seth, Enoch, Noah, and Abraham, with Moses receiving it for the first time on Mt. Sinai. Then it was passed to the 70

The Evangelist February, 2014 33

Elders, to David, Solomon, Ezra, Nehemiah and then to the Rabbis of the early Christian Era, etc. It was viewed as only oral tradition until it was written down by the disciples of Simon ben Jochai. The story of Simon ben Jochai is found in the Talmud. He and his son concealed themselves in a cave for 12 years and were sitting in sand up to their necks as they meditated on the sacred laws. Tradition says they were frequently visited by Elijah. The secrets were then written by Simon ben Jochai’s son, Eliezer, and his secretary, Rabbi Abba.

NEW AgE TEAChINg

According to the Zohar, God is the unknowable and immutable En Sof (Infinite). The Ten Sefirot (realms or planes) are the symbols of the inner life and processes of the Godhead in Zoharic theosophy; these are the founda-tions to the “New Age Movement” as well; many paths to God. They are also believed to be the archetypes for everything in the world of creation, “understanding their workings can illuminate the inner workings of the cosmos and history.” Are you beginning to see the philosophical connections to the “Word of Faith” teachings, New Age teachings and Jewish mysticism and Roman Catholic mys-ticism? It is also a big part of Islamic mysticism, Sufism.

fALSE PRoPhETS

Is there some hidden mystical or esoteric knowledge that is yet to be discovered that may be the catalyst to uniting all faiths? Is there something outside of historic Christianity and Judaism that could bring them into “com-mon ground” with Islam? Yes! To those who are deceived. And this is where the danger of the HRM and liberal Christianity is heading. Mathew 24:24 says: “For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall show great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.”

ISLAm

For example, according to Islamic tradition, the Mahdi will find lost portions of the Old Testament and New Testament. Some believe he may even find the Ark of the Covenant, and through these finds, he will argue with Christians and Jews, and win some over to Islam. According to one Islamic scholar, Ka’b al-Ahbar, “He will be called Mahdi because he will guide to something hid-den and will bring out Torah and Gospel from a town called Antioch.” Another Muslim scholar says, “He will bring out volumes of the Torah to refute the Jews. At the hand of the Mahdi, the Ark of the Covenant will be brought forth from the lake of Tiberius and taken and placed in Jerusalem.” Other Muslim scholars mention

the new inspired findings will come out of Syria. Is it possible HRM adherents and Liberal Christians may be susceptible to a future “new” discovery?

TEST ThE SPIRITS

Although Solomon said, “there is nothing new under the sun” mysticism has a unique uniting factor that can quietly deceive through similar experiences attained by devotees of all faiths. The simple test for a false prophet is to apply 1 John 4:1-3: “Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world. “Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God: “And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that [spirit] of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.” The Incarnation of our Lord was for the purpose of Him coming to the world to be Saviour. He accom-plished this through His Death on the Cross, alone! It is exclusively His Redemption and we can only participate by believing! Islam does not believe. Judaism does not believe. The Roman Catholic church does not believe because it adds their tradition, which makes the Word of God of none effect. Liberal Christianity no longer exclusively believes in the Finished Work of the Cross. What do you believe? How you answer this question will determine your eternal destination!

GGROWING! GROWING! GROWING!

Of course, I’m speaking of the SONLIFE BROADCAST-ING NETWORK. The Lord is opening up door after door in country after country, almost beyond our capacity to keep up. But yet, this is exactly what the Lord told me in 2010 what He would do. He said, “I will open the door wide,” and then not so long ago He spoke again to my heart stating, “I have opened the door wide, but I can open it even wider.” I am trying my best to walk as close to the Lord as is humanly possible. I want nothing in my life that would hinder the Holy Spirit from having His Way. All of this is the preparation for what I believe, will be the greatest Move of God the world or the Church has ever known. I am believing that the Holy Spirit is going to give us His Anointing, and at the same time His convicting Power relative to the lost, perhaps in a measure that man has never known before. It will result, I believe, in millions of souls coming to the Lord Jesus Christ.

FULL CIRCLE

TheEarlyChurchpreachedtheCross.Thiswasthefoundation of the Message, which the Lord gave to the Apostle Paul, andhe gave it tous inhis 14 Epistles.Unfortunately, afterthedeathoftheApostlesandthosewho knew the Apostles, the Church began to decline in spirituality. It finally morphed into what is now known as the Catholic Church, actually, totally apostatizing. The world then was plunged into the Dark Ages, and it was because the Gospel of Jesus Christ was no longer being preached. Please understand, the Gospel of our Lord has a posi-tive effect far beyond our capacity to understand. In other

words, if the Gospel is truly preached in any nation, that nation sooner or later will experience economic blessings, social blessings, and, in fact, blessings of every kind. That’s how powerful the Gospel really is. And then, after a period of time, the Holy Spirit helped usher in the Reformation. In other words, “the Just shall live by Faith.” This was followed by the great Holiness Meetings, whichactuallyoriginatedinEngland,Wales, and Scotland, etc., eventually coming to America. And then at the turn of the 20th century, the mighty outpour-ing of the Holy Spirit began, which played out to the effect of touching the entire world for Christ. I know, because we have been a part of that great Move. But now, sad to say, even that Move is beginning to wane and weaken. And so the Holy Spirit has brought back once again the great Message of the Cross. In other words, what brought the Church in is going to take the Church out.

EVERY ONE OF YOU . . .

EachofyouwhoareblessedbytheSONLIFE BROAD-CASTING NETWORK, and who stand with us prayerfully and financially, you are an integral part of this Work. You have been called of God just as much as I have been called, or any member of this staff. You must not forget that. Consequently, with such a Call, there comes a tre-mendous responsibility. In other words, don’t take lightly this place and position which the Lord has afforded you.

FAMILY WORSHIP CENTER MEDIA CHURCH

Some time ago, when the Lord laid it on the heart of both Frances and myself to begin what we then called, the FAMILY WORSHIP CENTER MEDIA CHURCH, little did I realize to what degree the Lord would use this effort.

The Evangelist February, 2014 35

Many of you see us every Sunday morning, reading the names and the locations of the individuals who have joined a week or so before. Actually, over a hundred a week are joining the FAMILY WORSHIP CENTER MEDIA CHURCH. The requirements? Really there is only one require-ment, and that is that you be Born-Again. And we take your word for that. Some would ask the question, “Do we have to pay so much money each month?” Your giving is between you and the Lord. As it would be obvious, it costs a lot of money to bring the Program-mingintoyourhome24hoursaday,sevendaysaweek.And, to be sure, if you never give a dime or a dollar to this Work, we’re still going to do our very best to be of help and blessing to you concerning the Word of God. But yet, if your soul is fed by SONLIFE BROADCASTING NETWORK, wellthen, intheEyesofGod,youowesomesupport.Howmuch support that is, once again, we leave between you and the Lord. But I will say this: I thank the Lord extensively so, for the scores of you who pay your tithe to FAMILY WORSHIP CENTER MEDIA CHURCH. In fact, people write constantly and ask, “Brother Swaggart, where should I pay my tithe?” The answer to that is relatively simple. You pay your tithe to the place that you are fed. Now think about that statement for just a moment. It’s not hard to understand what it says. Whatever is feeding you, whatever is helping you to learn and understand the Word of God to a greater degree, where the Presence of the Lord is manifested, and it blesses you, that is what you should support. And how so much I thank each and every one of you, who take this to heart, and you do the best that you can each and every month. Our business is to touch the world, and we really cannot do it without you. Whether you belong to FAMILY WORSHIP CENTER MEDIA CHURCH or not, your prayerful support and your financial support are so greatly needed and appreciated. I’ll say it again, without you we simply could not do what the Lord has called us to do. And I will say this again as well, you are called just as I am called. I am called to be sent, and youarecalledtodothesending(Rom.10:14-15).

EASTER CAMPMEETING

ThedatesareApril16through20. There’s nothing in the world quite like the FAMILY WORSHIP CENTER Campmeetings. It’s a little bit of HeavenonEarth.Thousandsofpeoplegatherfromallover the world with one purpose in mind, and that is to worship the Lord. And the Lord never disappoints! And whenever the Spirit of God is moving, great things hap-pen. Let me say this: If you can come and don’t, you’re going to miss some-thing great. So, if it’s possible for you to be with us, I’m

The Evangelist

looking for you. Remember this: Whether you are there or not, the Lord will Move; however, it will be better if you are present. I’m going to look for you, don’t miss it!

WE ARE TAKING A STAND

There are things going on in the modern church, which we believe are totally unscriptural, and which will fall out to the hurt of many, many people. If we leave the Word of God, we have left the roadmap and theguidepost.Unfortunately, muchofthechurchworldis doing just that – leaving the Word of God. As all of you know, Gabriel is the Youth Pastor at FAM-ILY WORSHIP CENTER. God has given him a tremendous burden for the youth of this nation and the world. He has taken a stand, even as he should, against some of the music that is going out in church, of all places. Please note carefully the following: When some of the music groups who call themselves “Christian,” and who perform in churches all over the country, are asked as to where they receive their inspira-tion – their answer will startle you. They will answer many times, “Our inspiration comes from the Beatles, or Prince,” or a score of others they might name. And please understand, these groups are inspired by Satan himself. And that is to steal, to kill, and destroy. And when they say they get their inspiration from these individuals, that means they are getting their in-spiration from Satan himself. God help us! That’s the same thing as a Preacher standing behind the Pulpit, and stating that he gets his inspiration from Jack Daniel’s liquor. It’s the same thing! This I pledge and promise to you. As we see the Word of God, and as the Holy Spirit helps us to understand it, irrespective as to who doesn’t like it, irrespective as to whom it hits, we have taken, and are taking a stand. We cannot do less! In years past, we have had people who were giving hundreds of thousands of dollars a year to this Ministry to stop their giving because they didn’t like a certain stand that we had taken. I’m glad I can say that I have never allowed that to hinder the position that we take. This Ministry is not for sale. It never has been, and it never will be. By the Grace of God, we will preach what we feel like the Lord has given unto us. In consequence, I earnestly plead for your prayers. I ask that you would seek the Lord daily on our behalf. Pray that we will do exactly what the Lord wants us to do, no more, no less!

In the Master’s Service, yours,

Jimmy Swaggart
