Celebrate Literacy Week, Florida! Find Yourself in a Book

Door-Decorating Contest Begins
A door-decorating contest with the theme Find Yourself in a Book will begin on Monday, January 22 and run all week. Judging will take place Friday, January 26.

Drop Everything and Read (D.E.A.R.)
The whole school will Drop Everything and Read for at least 20 minutes during R&A following announcements. Everyone should be prepared with reading material prior to D.E.A.R.

Newspaper Day
We all know what is black and white and read all over. Show your support during literacy week by wearing BLACK and WHITE on Wednesday.

Blackout Poetry
After a poem read on the morning announcements, students in R&A will work to create blackout poetry using discarded book pages. Teachers will need markers or crayons.

Interview with Author Christina Diaz Gonzalez
Students will watch the Facebook Live chat with the author of SSYRA book Moving Target. Any questions to the author should be submitted to Mrs. Marshburn prior to 10am Thursday.
Ongoing Activities:
BookFaces Teachers will make BookFaces prior to Celebrate Literacy Week following emailed instructions. BookFaces are due by Sunday, January 21. Students will vote for their favorite BookFace.
Shelfies Students may create “Shelfies” - pictures of them with their bookshelves at home. Submit shelfies to [email protected] all week. Shelfies will be posted on campus for all to see.
Book Trailers
Students will watch a book trailer a day during R&A.
Storyline Online
Students will watch a Storyline Online Video each day during lunch.
Gator Bucks
Students will receive Gator Bucks if caught reading at appropriate times during the day.
Word Games
Boggle, Scrabble, and other word games will be set up in the library media center all week.
