    5.00 p.m. FOUNDATION 2021 PRAYER MEETING

  • THEME: IN THE NAME OF JESUS CHRIST SUB-THEME: The Name of Jesus Christ TOPIC: The only way to Salvation TEXTS: John 3:16; Acts 4:12; 5:34-39; Revelation 7:9-10 AIMS: i. to shows that before Jesus Christ came to the earth, some names had been paraded as

ways to salvation and ii. to furnish the fact that the only way to salvation is in the name of Jesus Christ. INTRODUCTION: Salvation can be defined as deliverance or liberation from the power and effects of sin; liberation from ignorance or illusion and preservation from destruction or failure.Acts 4:12 implies that salvation has its origin in God; that a Saviour for mankind must be given by him; and that salvation cannot be worked or generated by any power among men. However, some other people have variously at various times presented themselves as saviour. These all did not end well. STUDY GUIDE/QUESTIONS: 1. Define salvation and explain the name of Jesus Christ as the only means for salvation of

sinners. Mark 2:5-11; Acts 16:27-33 2. Discuss the fact that some people had portrayed themselves as ‘saviours’ before or during

the life time of Jesus Christ on earth. (Acts 5:34-39). 3. What are the unique reasons for the claim of Jesus Christ as the only means of man’s

salvation? Matt 1:20-21; John 3:16; 17:3-4; Gal 1:3-4 4. From the context of Acts 13:6-12, how can you explain Jesus Christ as the means of

liberation from ignorance and illusion? CONCLUSION: The Lord Jesus Christ is God’s gift for the salvation of all mankind. (John 3:16). Therefore, any other person in heaven or earth who lays claim or portrays himself as a way to salvation apart from Jesus Christ, does so in rebellion to God’ ordained means and plan for salvation. And such are destined to eternal condemnation. FOOD FOR THOUGHT: No Jesus Christ, no way to eternal life. MEMORY VERSE: Matthew 1:21 “And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name JESUS, for He will save His people from their sins.”

  • SPIRITUAL TONIC FOR THE WEEK ISAIAH 45: 2-3

I will go before you and will level the mountains; I will break down gates of bronze

and cut through bars of iron. I will give you hidden treasures, riches stored in secret

places, so that you may know that I am the Lord, the God of Israel, who summons

    you by name.

Thank You, Father, for your grace that sustained me from the beginning of the year

till now. As I go into the New Year, go before me, level the mountains, and break the

yokes; give me Your heavenly treasures and lead me in the path of righteousness.

This I ask through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen and Amen.

    GOD WILL COUNTENANCE YOUR SACRIFICE

ON THE LIGHTER SIDE An old lady bought a foreign-made car with a rear engine. When she took one of her friends out for a ride the car broke down. The woman got out and opened the bonnet. ‘Oh dear,’ said the old lady’s friend, ‘someone’s pinched your engine.’ ‘Don’t worry,’ the old lady replied, ‘I’ve got a spare in the boot.’

PRAYER FOR THE YEAR Almighty God, the King of kings, You rule over all in heaven and on earth and Your reign is everlasting. Thank You for the grace to be citizens of Your Kingdom, make us understand our place in this kingdom, help us to represent Your interest very well on earth, enable us to comport ourselves as worthy ambassadors of Your Kingdom and Strengthen us to make known the peace and joy and all other benefits that come with Your rule in the world that through us the whole Creation will be delivered from its futility and hopelessness and in the end may we receive the crown of glory and shine as stars in Your eternal kingdom through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

THY KINGDOM COME, O LORD - A&MRW 816 Tune: St. Cecilia

    1.

Thy kingdom come, O God, thy rule, O Christ, begin; break with thine iron rod the tyrannies of sin.

2 Where is thy reign of peace and purity and love? When shall all hatred cease, as in the realms above?

3 When comes the promised time that war shall be no more, and lust, oppression, crime shall flee thy face before?

    4. We pray thee, Lord, arise, and come in thy great might; revive our longing eyes, which languish for thy sight. 5 Men scorn thy sacred name, and wolves devour thy fold; by many deeds of shame we learn that love grows cold.

6 O’er lands both near and far thick darkness broodeth yet: arise, O Morning Star, arise, and never set!

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” - John 3:16 By the term “Incarnation,” we mean the eternal Son of God took on human flesh in the person of Jesus of Nazareth. As such, Jesus is one person in two distinct but undivided natures: human and divine. John 1:14 says: “The Word became flesh and dwelt among us. We observed his glory, the glory as the one and only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.” Before the Incarnation, human beings could not relate directly with God but through intermediaries as God spoke through angels, and through human leaders such as Moses, Joshua, the High Priest, and the prophets (Hebrews 1:1). Unfortunately, as the generations and ages passed, people paid less and less attention to God’s messengers, both angelic and human. There were also fewer and fewer people on earth whom God could call upon to deliver God’s messages because humanity was getting more and more materialistic and listening less and less to anything that came from the spiritual world and from God. “He saw that there was no one, he was appalled that there was no one to intervene; so, his own arm achieved salvation for him, and his own righteousness sustained him.” (Isaiah 59:16). In other words, the connection between humanity and God through angels and through human leaders, priests, and prophets was becoming so weak and tenuous that humanity was in danger of being cut off altogether from God and the spiritual world. Consequently, God had to come personally as Jesus Christ to restore the connection between humanity and God. Unlike God’s former appearances through angelic and human intermediaries, this time it was God’s own human presence reaching out to humanity and speaking directly to us. That is why, when Philip asked to see the Father, Jesus replied: “Have I been with you all this time, Philip, and you still do not know me? Whoever has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, “Show us the Father”? Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words that I say to you I do not speak on my own; but the Father who dwells in me does the works.” (John 14:9–10) Incarnation brought God and His Kingdom nearer to mankind. This is a foretaste of the eschatological event described in Revelation 21 “… Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God. He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for

the former things have passed away.” Incarnation removed the barrier between Mankind and God. Paul said: “All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation; that is, God was in Christ reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting the message of reconciliation to us.” (2 Corinthians 5:18–19).

    Coming Events (December, 2020-January 2021)

    SOUL FOOD 52/2020

  • The implication of this is that whoever will have a place in the Kingdom of God must believe in Christ Jesus and His redemptive work. “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16). The Apostle Paul tells us that God “desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth” (1 Timothy 2:3–4). The Apostle Peter also explains that God is “not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance” (2 Peter 3:9). It is God’s long-term purpose to call everyone who has ever lived to come to Him and partake of His everlasting Kingdom through Jesus Christ. In John 14:6 He says, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” Belief in His name is required to become a citizen of God’s Kingdom. “But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name” (John 1:12). And: “He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God” (John 3:18). As we celebrate another Christmastide on earth, let us reconsider our relationship with God. Is it through Jesus Christ or our works or our human ancestry? Do you still rely on intermediaries to reach God? This theme affords you another opportunity today to come to Jesus Christ – the Incarnated God, for grace to partake in His Kingdom.

I wish you all 366 days of God’s wonderful and pleasant manifestations in 2021!
