Geoff Meads

Geoff is a highly respected marketer and technical trainer with over twenty years experience in the Home Technology sector. He has worked for some of the most notable brands in the world including Dutch Electronics giant Philips and Hi-Fi experts Arcam specialising in audio, video and other home technologies. He now owns and runs Presto AV, a web design and technical training

agency working with technology companies to develop websites as part of complete digital marketing strategies. Having experienced the industry from New York to New Zealand, Geoff enjoys a deep technical knowledge and embraces the demands of modern business. He’s taught for CEDIA for nearly ten years, is a key member the CEDIA Education Council.

Peter Aylett

Peter is a globally-respected residential technology expert, with 25 years experience in the sector. Having spent his entire career working for some of the UK’s most respected technology integrators, Peter is now Technical Director for Archimedia, a high-end residential integration company with operations in six countries across the Middle East. Peter is in demand as a speaker and lecturer in residential

technology, and has recently led design workshops, courses and inspirational seminars across Europe, China, Australia, New Zealand, North America and the Middle East. Peter currently chairs the CEDIA EMEA Standards Committee, is a member of CEDIA’s Global Technology Council and won CEDIA’s Education Volunteer of the year award for 2014.

The purpose of this course is to provide a foundation for understanding IP (Internet Protocol). It is appropriate for both beginners and individuals looking to formalise and increase their IP networking knowledge. With the vast majority of subsystems now having the ability to be converged over an IP network, this is arguably the most important topic to make sure that you have a solid foundation in.

Topics covered include:

- Understanding the 7 layer OSI Model and how it relates to networking (essential learning)

- Applying the OSI model to residential network structure and setup

- Recognising and understanding basic network hardware

- IP Addressing - using the right addresses for the right job

- Basic network troubleshooting

By the end of this course, participants should be able to: explain common network protocols such as TCP, UDP, IP, DHCP, DNS, and NAT, understand

the functions of a consumer router in a wired environment and begin basic troubleshooting in a consumer level IP network.

The crowded WiFi spectrum is busy! It’s essential that AV engineers understand wireless technology to ensure fast and reliable service to their customers. This one-day course starts by going ‘back to basics’. It will explore RF terms of data speed, frequency and coverage. It will also examine the configuration of wireless access points in both single and multiple cell configurations.

Finally wireless survey tools will demonstrated to establish likely conflicts and sources of interference. This course assumes a fundamental knowledge of IP networks.

Typical subjects covered include:

- Understanding Wireless as a physical media

- Radio Frequency transmission as part of the Electromagnetic spectrum

- Controlling and maximising wireless coverage using different Antenna types

- Protecting wireless networks with wireless security

- Expanding wireless networks with additional access points

- Controlling wireless networks with management systems

The technical design of a high performance

Home Cinema is not a subjective decision.

For every parameter, there is a standard that

should be observed in order to offer a truly

immersive entertainment experience. This

course will examine those standards and give

you an insight into the importance of designing

cinemas using standards based engineering

calculations rather than subjective guesswork.

The morning will be classroom based where

the instructor will introduce the standards and

the engineering skills necessary to apply them.

By the end of this course, delegates will

understand how applying engineering

standards to cinema design ensures a high

standard of repeatable performance.

The CEDIA CPD course ‘Designing Integrated Future-Ready Homes’ is a very powerful way of promoting the industry to architectural practices, and also a useful tool for promoting your business and obtaining a substantial amount of sales leads through the course. Available to all CEDIA Members, this one-day CEDIA Outreach Instructor (COI) workshop, will teach you the basic skills necessary to deliver an effective presentation, whilst also allowing you to get a clearer understanding about the course.
