Greetings from the Island of Cebu. The holidays are behind us and we push on with the work the Lord has given us for the New Year, 2012. We wish all of our family and friends a very Happy, inspired and Spirit-Filled New Year. December was filled with opportunities to celebrate the birth of Jesus, to share Jesus with others and to reflect on all He did for us and through us in 2011. Christmas Celebrations We celebrated with our theme of “Rejoicing in His Grace and Mercy”, based on 2 Corinthians 12:9. Each of our ministries had their own small celebration, culminated by a church wide celebration on December 18th. We had a special Christmas Message “The Joy of Christmas” based on Luke 2:1-11 which you will find on our web site cebu2you.com. Satan was hard at work that day as our multimedia projector crashed and when we pull our old transparency machine, we found a rat had eaten through the cord. We just rejoiced that Satan couldn’t steal our joy and pushed through the service without further incident.

The Young Adults celebrated on the 16th and had an interesting evening which started with a typhoon passing through the area and being in a “signal 2” alert. We had torrential rain for most of the day but proceeded to prepare for the sit down dinner in faith. As the guest speaker, Pastor Bong from CC Cebu City arrived we had a brownout (no electricity) and proceeded with battery powered light for the speaker and candles on the tables for the rest. Shortly after the message, the power returned and the celebration continued.

Summer Team Can you believe it? It is January and we are talking about a summer team. Well, Impact Generation from Calvary Chapel of Downey has already been meeting for a few months and planning a trip to visit us this summer with a team of Young Adults. They are excited and we are excited about the possibilities this team will bring. They have developed a newsletter for the team and for the ministry and I have attached a copy for each of you to read so you can be up to date and know what to pray for. The SHCC church wide celebration was held in the Apas Barangay Hall Sports Facility again this year as we could not fit everyone in the church. We had a special message followed by entertainment from each of the ministries and a presentation of the Gospel using balloon animals. After the presentation, each child received a balloon animal to take home. We also were blessed to give food packages to 50 families with food for their Christmas dinner and we gave a small gift to each of 200 children. At our annual Christmas Celebration we presented the Second Annual J.O.Y. award, presented to the person in the church who for the past year has exemplified the Christian life by putting Jesus first, Other’s second and Yourself third. This year’s winner of the famed certificate and P1000 gift certificate ($20) was our intern from Samar, Brian Versosa. Congratulations Brian!.

The Men’s Ministry celebration was also on the 25th as the men met for fellowship and a focused discussion on “The Reason for the Season”. They ate fresh fish and fellowshipped and bonded for about 4 hours.

We had a busy month to say the least but now is not the time to rest. Pray for strength as we push into 2012. Continue to pray for the victims of our recent typhoon, it was devastating. I still have 4 friends I cannot contact. Pray for the Calvary Chapel Bible College Philippines as they were hit hard and all of the other areas affected. We were blessed to be only inconvenienced but with no real loss or damage.

The Youth Ministry celebrated on Christmas Day with fun, food, games and a message about serving while you are young based on 1 Timothy 4:12. It was exciting to see so many interested as I shared the message. They finished their celebration the next day at SM Mall where they drove “Bump” cars and sang Karoke as a group.
