8.0 Urban Planning and Growth

8.1.1 WATER SECTOR

Water Supply Planning

While the current works shall focus on

the existing supply net

augmentation at source and at

distribution end, the entire system shall

be augmented and structured in a

planned and sustainable way to serve

the city in long term.

Water Auditing

Water auditing is the best practice to

reduce the system losses and involves

accounting for the entire supply of

water. This also involves leak

detection studies apart from studies on

the quality of water draws at the

consumer end and explores ways.

Water Supply Operation and

Maintenance

At present, the PHED wing is

managing the O&M of water supply

system. To improve the O&M facilities

steps would be taken to involve

experienced private companies, which

will be solely responsible for the O&M

of the system, based on an agreed

annual fee.

The members of the line department

shall undergo training in project

planning, implementation, monitoring

and evaluation. The significance of

peoples participation in water

8.7.1Strategy

The City Investment Plan is the multi-

year scheduling of investments and

public improvements. The scheduling

or phasing of the plan is based on

studies of the fiscal resour

availability (for new investments and

O&M), institutional capacity

of specific improvements to be

constructed for a period of seven year
