Boarding / Internat
Boys participated in a football tournament entirely organized bystudents. The junior team gave its best and they prove to beyoung warriors!
Members of the Boarding House Committee organized an artworkshop for the younger girls of old Portena. They madebeautiful bracelets!
On weekdays, boarding students have a programme of extracurricularactivities after class. These activities are required for all students, but theyhave many choices within the programme.
Start getting ready... What are you going to wear? Who will be yourpartner? Christmas Dance is coming!!!
High School
AP students - An information evening for parents of studentsin the AP classes will take place on November in the EigerAuditorium on Tuesday, November 27th, between 18.00 and18.45. The purpose of this meeting is to communicate importantinformation regarding the upcoming AP examinations in May,including the mock exams. A similar meeting will be held forstudents in the AP classes after the winter break.
Highford House will be here from Monday 19th to 28thNovember. They will deliver the CDL Personal and Study Skillsprogramme that runs parallel with our College, Study & LifeSkills (CSL) programme.This consists of presentations andworkshop activities during the school day according to thefollowing schedule: see here
CharitiesMADS Trip to Ghana: This year we hope to take a group ofabout 15 students to Ghana to visit and work in the orphanagewe have supported since 2009. The proposed dates are 3rd –13th July 2013. More information is available from Ms Ross inthe High School office.
Annual Gift Boxes Appeal: The Make A Difference Society(MADS) is once again making and collecting gift boxes for underprivileged children in Eastern Europe. Details for what to includein the boxes can be obtained from Ms Ross in the High Schooloffice or on the CAS & REACH courses on Moodle. The final datefor depositing the boxes is Tuesday 20th November. They canbe left in Cervin 215.

Puppet showSinging and dancing Puppets, animals helping each other andwondering about the origins and the destiny of a big egg foundin the house. This is Krunk! ; A lovely show which deals withfriendship and solidarity that Camille’s, Isabelle’s and Vanessa’sclasses attended this week.

Our thoughts for this week must revolve aroundaccreditation. CDL last went through re-accreditation by theCouncil of International Schools (CIS) and the New EnglandAssociation of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) in 2007 and will doso again in 2017. However, at the mid-way term of theaccreditation cycle a timely ‘check-up’ is made, where tworepresentatives from the respective organisations visit theschool to assess our alignment with an array of stringentstandards and to help guide the on-going development process,driven by the self-evaluation carried out by a cross-section ofour school community last year. It is for this reason that manystaff, student and parent representatives have been meetingwith our visitors this week as they make every effort to probe allaspects of the school’s operation, not least of which is thequality of the teaching and learning happening in ourclassrooms. These visits are welcomed and essential if we are tohave expert third-party guidance on how our plans for the futuremay be fine-tuned and we will look forward to hearing thefeedback they will provide for us and sharing this with ourparent community in due course.
Though our classroom teaching and learning activities areparamount, we also give every encouragement to students toengage in the diverse activities on offer at CDL – and so theydo!

Cette semaine, tous nos efforts se sont concentrés autourde l’accréditation de notre école. La dernière fois que le CDLest passé par une phase de ré-accréditation par le Conseil desÉcoles Internationales (CIS) et l’Association des Écoles etCollèges de la Nouvelle-Angleterre (NEASC) remonte à 2007, etil en sera de même en 2017. Cependant, arrivé à la moitié ducycle d’accréditation, un contrôle est effectué par unreprésentant de chacune des deux organisations. Tous deuxrendent visite à l’école pendant quelques jours afin d’évaluernotre positionnement par rapport à un certain nombre decritères relativement stricts et nous guider à travers leprocessus de développement de notre école, appuyé par lesrésultats de l’auto-évaluation qui a été accomplie par desmembres représentant la communauté au cours de l’annéedernière. C’est pour cette raison qu’une partie du personnel, desélèves et des parents d’élèves ont rencontré nos deux visiteurscette semaine, alors qu’ils déployaient tous leurs efforts pourexaminer chacun des aspects du fonctionnement de l’école, etplus particulièrement l’enseignement et la manière dontl’apprentissage se fait au sein des salles de classes. Ces visitessont essentielles si nous souhaitons recevoir des conseils de lapart d’experts sur la manière dont nos projets pour le futurpeuvent être menés à bien. Nous nous réjouissons à l’idée derecevoir leurs conclusions et de pouvoir les partager avec toutela communauté le moment venu.

1er et 2nd Cycles
Ce jeudi 8 novembre 2012, les élèves de 6ème1 et 6ème2 sesont réunis pour jouer des saynètes apprises durant les
semaines précédentes. Voir le compte rendu illustré fait part lesélèves en suivant ce lien !Le 9 novembre 2012 les classes de 1ère Bac S et ES ont visité lemusée d’Art et d’Histoire de Genève. Voir le compte rendu enimages ici.
Le Système des MaisonsLa Journée des Maisons du 19 octobre s’est déroulée avecbeaucoup d’enthousiasme de la part des élèves et desenseignants. Les élèves ont participé à plusieurs activitésorganisées sur le thème d’Halloween afin de gagner des pointspour leur Maison. Malgré une participation enthousiaste etactive de tous les élèves, c’est la Maison Blanche qui est sortiegagnante de la compétition. Afin de continuer dans cet esprit d’équipe enthousiaste,plusieurs activités des Maisons sont organisées pour la périodespéciale et ceci durant toute l’année scolaire. Le départementde Sciences, par exemple, a récemment organisé unecompétition de voiture gonflée et de catapulte pour les classesde Quatrième et Grade 8, alors que le département d’Histoire etde Géographie organise un tournage de film court sur desthèmes historiques pour les classes de Sixième et Grade 6. Nous nous réjouissons de continuer à encourager les élèves àtravailler ensemble dans ce contexte amical et détendu.

Vendredi 9 novembre a eu lieu la fameuse ‘Crazy teachers race’qui a permis d’introniser les nouveaux capitaines des maisons.
C’était aussi la fin du projet ‘Cirque’ pour les classes de grade 1 etbeaucoup d’artistes en herbe ont circulé dans l’école.
Mardi 13, dans le cadre du projet ‘Vue d’ensemble historique’ lesclasses de grade 5 et CM2 option bilingue sont allées visiter leMusée Romain de Nyon.
The famous “crazy teachers race” took place on FridayNovember 9th, during which the Houses’ captains inductionceremony was held.
It was also the end of the “Circus project” for grade 1 classes, andwe have seen many budding artists circulating in the school.
On Tuesday 13th November, as part of the “Historical Overviewproject”, classes of grade 5 and CM2 with bilingual option went tovisit the Roman Museum of Nyon.

SOCCER: The Varsity Girls Soccer Team lost to an excellent Int.School of Lausanne team 3-0. This was the first loss by theVarsity Girls in close to 3 years.
Good luck to both the Moyens and Varsity boys teams who havequalified for the semi-finals of the ADISR championships.
RUGBY: The Varsity boys rugby team played some tough andexperienced teams in the weekend SGIS tournament. The teamplayed like heroes on Sunday in the pouring rain and ankle deepmud to finish 4th in the competition. Coach Valentine says welldone to all who participated both days, and special mention toDeclan, Hae-Sung and John S. for leadership and performance.

FOOTBALL: L’équipe de football Varsity Girls a perdu 3 à 0contre l’excellente équipe de l’Ecole Internationale de Lausanne.Ce fut la première défaite des filles depuis près de 3 ans.
Bonne chance aux deux équipes garçons Moyens et Varsity quise sont qualifiés pour les demi-finales des championnats ADISR.
RUGBY: L’équipe de rugby garçon Varsity a rencontré desadversaires difficiles et expérimentés au cours du tournoi SGISce week-end. Les garçons ont été dignes de héros sous unepluie battante et avec de la boue jusqu'aux chevilles pourfinalement terminer 4ème de la compétition. L’entraîneur M.Valentine félicite tous ceux qui ont participé à ces deux jours,avec une mention spéciale pour Declan, Hae-Sung et John S.pour leur leadership et leur performance.
