Programs & Ages Cont.
Class Breakdown cont. - Dancers will practice, acquire, and perform
dance combinations specific to the type of dance, age, and ability level of
the class they are registered in. All dancers will perform a routine in
recital, but will not focus on one routine for the whole year. For the
younger dancers, while technique and structure are a part of each class;
“Having Fun!” is the primary goal. If you are looking at taking dance to a
more serious level, we have a competitive team!
Competitive dancers must first audition or be chosen by CDA Staff. The
minimum requirement for CDA Competitive dancers is ballet class,
Stretch and Strength/Tumbling class and jazz technique class
The Stretch and Strength/Tumbling class is a required technique class
for ALL competitive students. Close to competition time, many
competitive routines will also be reviewed during different competitive
classes. Not all students will be competing in each discipline of dance.
Private classes and summer classes are encouraged to move up a level
and advance as a competitive dancer. Small groups will be chosen from
the technique class to compete in
additional routines and a minimal
choreography fee will apply. Please
see Competitive Handouts for more
information. We welcome anyone
to inquire about our competitive
programs, and encourage them to
email their interest to
or via phone at 905-836-8040.

through choreography are emphasized.
Beginner students will learn basic jazz
steps, progressive skills and jazz
combinations and routines. Jazz is offered
to all ages from beginner to advanced.

flowing and pleasing to the audience with
grace and creativity.

Triple Threat Program
In Singing, we begin to introduce concepts of music and theory in a
variety of levels. This includes learning about the types of notes in music,
the name of the notes and so on. We focus on singing as a chorus, which
is essential to a performer’s life. The music teacher will also focus on
diction, breathing, posture, rhythm and timing. We introduce different types
of music to sing (e.g. musical theatre, jazz, rap, some pop, etc.). This
helps broaden the scope of what your child knows as “music”. It is not all
Katy Perry and Arianna Grande. We keep the music appropriate for their
age at all times. Our focus is to help each child find their own voice!
In Acting, the program will help the children become more confident. A
confident child means an excellent audition, which can sometimes mean a
starring role. Through improvisational games and some script work, the
students find their confidence and are able to access their imagination
once again. We also work on movement in class and the importance of
“space” awareness. There is no wrong idea in drama! We keep it fun and
exciting for each individual student!
In Dancing, their whole bodies will be groovin’! CDA has a superior dance
program and this will be passed onto each and every child. They will learn
a varied of levels in technique for ballet, jazz and musical theatre and,
depending on their skill level, they may start tap. The teacher will take
extra time to focus on flexibility and rhythm. The children are encouraged
through fun and light-hearted teaching at all times.

Recital Information
All students will perform in the end of year Recital(s) at the Newmarket
Theatre. The annual recital is very a very exciting event for everyone involved!
The recital dates will generally be the first weekend in June and is usually
announced in September. The dress rehearsal for recital will be held the
Friday before the show. Please keep in mind that it may be during school

dancer to feel comfortable with the stage before the show! A recital is an
important and special occasion in the dance year as it showcases all the hard
work our instructors, students, and parents put in during the season. It is an
opportunity for your children (or parents for those in adult classes) to show off
the new things they have learned this year and to get up on stage and do what
they do best - perform! Recitals are also a great chance for you to see all the
other classes and styles of dance available to you and/or your children, other
than the one(s) they are already enrolled in. Our shows are very diverse and
entertaining, showcasing all ages, levels and genres of dance. We encourage
you to bring your family, friends, and friends of friends to share and celebrate
the accomplishments these students have made this year!
