ThismanualwasdevelopedbyDr.SharonE.RobertsonandDr.WilliamA.Borgen,Co‐ChairsoftheCCPACouncilonAccreditationofCounsellorEducationPrograms(CACEP)in2001‐2002,theyearinwhichthisdocumentwasapproved.ManymembersoftheCanadiancommunityofprofessionalcounsellors,includingcounselloreducatorsatuniversitiesacrossCanada,membersoftheCCPACounsellorEducators’Chapter,andtheCCPABoardofDirectors,providedcommentsandfeedbackondraftsofthisdocument.Theircontributionandsupportwasgreatlyappreciated.

INTRODUCTION
Sincetheearly1970'stheCanadianCounsellingandPsychotherapyAssociation(CCPA)hasmaintainedanongoingconcernforthestandardsandtrainingofcounsellorsinCanada(Peavy,Robertson,&Westwood,1982).In1987,thisconcernculminatedintheestablishmentofaprocessforaccreditingcounselloreducationprograms.Themainpurposesofaccreditationare:
1. Topromotehighstandardsinthepre‐servicetrainingofprofessionalcounsellors.2. Toassisttheadministrationandfacultyofcounselloreducationprogramstoassessand
improvetheirobjectives,resources,andprograms.3. Topromoteacontinuingreviewandevaluationofexistingcounselloreducationprograms.
Itisimportanttodistinguishbetweentheaccreditationofprogramsandthecertificationofindividuals,twoseparateprocessesthatarefrequentlyreferredtoasiftheyareoneandthesame.Ontheonehand,accreditationimpliesthesettingofminimalstandardswhichtrainingprogramsmustmeet.Inordertobecomeaccredited,acounselloreducationprogrammustfulfillcertainrequirementsorstandardswithregardtoinstitutionalsettings,programmissionandobjectives,programcontent,practicumexperiences,studentselectionandadvising,facultyqualificationsandworkload,programgovernance,instructionalsupport,andself‐evaluation.Ontheotherhand,certificationimpliesrecognitionthatindividualshavemetminimalprofessionalstandardstopracticeindependentlyasacounsellor.Inordertobecertified,counsellorsmustmeetcertainlevelsofeducationandtrainingincounselling,theymustfollowthecodeofethics,andtheyareheldaccountabletoshowcompetentandethicalperformanceinpractice.Theproceduresandmaterialsoutlinedinthismanualapplyonlytoaccreditationandnottocertification.
TheBoardofDirectorsoftheCanadianCounsellingandPsychotherapyAssociationapprovedtheCCPAProceduresandStandardsforCounsellorEducationProgramsattheMaster’sLevel(Robertson&Borgen,2002)tobeusedasabasisforevaluationofgraduateprogramsincounselloreducation.TheseproceduresandstandardsarepublishedinthismanualandareembodiedintheapplicationformsavailablefromCCPA.
Inordertoadministeritsaccreditationprogram,CCPAhasestablishedtheCouncilonAccreditationofCounsellorEducationPrograms(CACEP)referredtosimplyastheCouncilonAccreditation.Specifically,themandateoftheCouncilisasfollows:
TooverseeandmanagetheCCPAaccreditationprogram,whichinvolvesprovidingprofessionalandarms‐lengthevaluationofcounselloreducationprograms.
TodeveloppoliciesandprocedurespertainingtotheoperationoftheCouncilandtomakerecommendationsregardingthesetotheCCPABoardofDirectors.
ToperiodicallyreviewtheCCPAAccreditationProceduresandStandardsandtomakerecommendationsforchangetotheCCPABoardofDirectors.

Todevelopandimplementaprogramfortrainingsitevisitors. Todevelopdocumentsandinstrumentsneededtoadministertheaccreditationprogram. Toprovideconsultationtocounselloreducationprograms. ToprovideinformationtothePresidentoftheinstitutionapplyingforaccreditation,
regardingtheoutcomeoftheinstitution’sapplication. TointeractthroughtheCCPAPresidentwithotherelementsoftheCCPAgovernance
structureonmattersrelatedtoaccreditation. Todevelopmarketingstrategiestointerestuniversitiesintheaccreditationoftheir
counselloreducationprograms. Tocooperatewithprovincialandfederalinstitutionsandagenciesaswellasother
professionalgroupsinpromotinghighstandardsofcounselloreducation.
TheCouncilonAccreditationiscomposedofaminimumofaChair,andthreeadditionalmembers,allofwhomarerecognizedcounselloreducators.EachmemberoftheCouncilonAccreditationisappointedforaperioduptofouryears.MembersoftheCouncilareappointedbytheBoardofDirectorsofCCPAupontherecommendationoftheCouncilonAccreditation.
Theproceduresandstandardsoutlinedinthismanualareintendedforuniversitiesseekingaccreditation,onavoluntarybasis,forcounselloreducationprogramsatthemaster’sdegreelevel.Theproceduresprovidetheopportunityforself‐studypriortoapplicationandallowtimetoinitiateneededchanges.Theprocessisintendedtobeconstructiveratherthanpunitiveandallowsaninstitutiontowithdrawitsapplicationforaccreditationatanytime.Thismanualcontainstheproceduresinvolvedintheaccreditationprocessandtheminimumstandards,whichprogramsseekingaccreditationmustmeet.ApplicationformsmaybeobtainedfromCCPA.

Procedures
Overview of the Accreditation Process
UsingtheCCPAStandards,theaccreditingprocessinvolves:
1. Submissionofawrittenapplicationthatincorporatesaninternalprogramevaluationreport.CompletedapplicationsareacceptedatanytimeandshouldbesenttotheChairoftheCouncilonAccreditation.
2. Evaluationoftheinstitution’sprogrambyasitevisitingteamappointedbytheCCPACouncilonAccreditationtodetermineiftheStandardsaremet.
3. PeriodicreviewtodeterminewhetherornotaccreditedprogramscontinuetomeettheStandards.
Preparing for Accreditation
BeforemakingformalapplicationtotheCouncilonAccreditation,thefacultyshouldstudytheapplicationandratingformscarefullyandusethemtodeterminestrengthsandweaknessesoftheprogramforwhichaccreditationissought.Thepurposeofthisself‐studyistoimprovetheeffectivenessoftheprogramandtoprepareforaformalapplicationforaccreditation.Thefollowingsequentialstepsaresuggestedaspossibleproceduresforconductingtheself‐study:
1. Prepareandorganizethefaculty.2. Developmaterialsrequiredtocompletetheapplicationform.3. Havethefacultyratethedegreetowhichtheprogrammeetseachofthestandardsasthey
appearontheratingform.4. Inviteaconsultanttoassistinareviewoftheprogram1.5. ImplementthenecessaryprogramchangesinordertomeettheCCPAStandards.6. Documentchangesmadeintheprogramasaresultoftheself‐study.
Thisprocessmayrequireaminimumofsixmonthstocomplete.WhenthefacultyissatisfiedthatitsprogrammeetstheCCPAStandards,formalapplicationforAccreditationmaybemade.
1Thepurposeofinvitingtheconsultantistoreviewtheprogramcomparedwiththeaccreditationstandardsandtoprovidefeedbackwithrespecttostrengthsandchangesthatshouldbemadetomeetthestandards.Theconsultantshouldbeaseniorprofessorwithextensiveexperienceincounselloreducationandtheaccreditationstandards.Thisstepisrecommendedbutnotrequired.Theconsultantischosenbytheprogramandfundedbytheuniversity.Theconsultant’sreportisconfidentialtotheuniversity.AlistofpotentialconsultantscanbeobtainedfromCCPA.

Minimal Standards to be met Before Making Formal Application for Accreditation
Whiletheremaybevariationinthedegreetowhichaprogrammeetsvariousstandards,itisexpectedthatmostoftheStandardswillbemetatanexemplarylevel.Whereastandardisnotadequatelymet,theremustbesomeevidenceofthedepartment'seffortandcommitmenttomeetit.
Applying for Accreditation
Formalapplicationforaccreditationmustinclude:
1. Acompletedapplicationtogetherwithsomeevidenceofaninternalself‐studyconductedovertheprevioussixmonths,relevantexcerptsfromtheGraduateCalendar,descriptivebrochures,andinformationroutinelydisseminatedtoprospectivegraduatestudents,andanyothersupportivedocumentation.
2. AcompletedCCPAAccreditationApplicationFormindicativeofcurrentprogramstatus.3. Aletterofintentbytheinstitutiontomeetthefinancialobligationsofasitevisit.An
appropriateofficeroftheinstitutionmustsignthisletter.4. Paymentofanapplicationfeeof$1,000.00.
Theinstitutionshouldpreparesevencopiesofitsapplication.Threecopies,alongwithachequeintheamountof$1,000.00madepayabletotheCanadianCounsellingandPsychotherapyAssociation,shouldbesentto:
CCPACouncilonAccreditation,6‐203ColonnadeRdSOttawa,OnK2E7K3Uponrequest,theinstitutionwillsupplyacompletedcopyofallapplicationmaterialstoeachofthethreesitevisitationteammembers.Onecopyistoberetainedfortheinstitution'sfiles.
The Response of the Council on Accreditation to the Application
TheCouncilonAccreditationreviewstheinstitution'sapplicationandmayrespondinoneofthreeways:
1. Accepttheapplication,whichmeansthatthecounselloreducationprogramwillbeconsideredforaccreditationandasitevisitwillbemade.
2. Returntheapplicationbecauseitisincompleteandrequestthatthemissinginformationbesupplied.

3. Recommendthattheapplicationbewithdrawnbecauseanexaminationofthedatarevealsthatthestandardsforprogramapprovalareunmet.Inthisevent,theChairoftheCouncilonAccreditationwillnotifytheinstitutionoftherecommendationandstatethereason.Iftheinstitutionbelievesthepreliminaryevaluationandresponsetobeinerror,itmayprovideadditionalinformationandrequestreconsiderationofthedecision.TheCouncilonAccreditationreservestherighttodeterminethefinalcourseofaction.
Site Visits
Thepurposesofthesitevisitare:
1. TovalidatetheinformationpresentedintheapplicationforAccreditation.2. Togainanunderstandingofthoseaspectsofthecounselloreducationprogramthatcannot
beevaluatedfullyfromdocumentationsuppliedbytheinstitution.
Thetypicalsitevisitconsistsofatwoorthreedayreviewoftheprogram.TheChairoftheCouncilonAccreditationisresponsibleforthefollowingarrangements:
1. Schedulingthesitevisit.2. Sendingmaterialspertainingtotheproceduresandregulationscoveringsitevisitstothe
designatedindividual(s)attheinstitution.3. Appointingthesitevisitingteamanddesignatingthechairoftheteam.4. Providingmembersoftheteamwiththenecessaryinstructionsanddocuments.
Criteria for Selection of an Individual for Accreditation Site Visits
Amemberofasitevisitingteammust:
1. BeamemberofCCPA.2. BearecognizedcounselloreducatorforaprogramattheMaster’slevelataCanadian
university.3. Submitacurrentcurriculumvita.4. HavecompletedasitevisitortrainingsessiononCCPAaccreditationprocedures.5. Havenoconflictofinterestwiththeprogramunderreview6. BeapprovedbytheCouncilonAccreditation.
Sitevisitorsarevolunteersanddonotreceiveanhonorarium.Theyarecompensatedfortravelandsubsistence.Costsofthesitevisitaretheresponsibilityoftheuniversityapplyingforaccreditation.

Composition of the Site Visiting Team
1. ThesitevisitingteamwillconsistofthreemembersappointedbytheChairoftheCouncilonAccreditation.
2. TheChairoftheCouncilonAccreditationwillconferwiththeinstitutionbeforeselectingthesitevisitingteam.SitevisitingteammembersmustbeacceptabletotheapplyinginstitutionsaswellastotheCouncilonAccreditation.
3. TheChairoftheCouncilonAccreditationwilldesignateoneofthesitevisitorsaschairofthesitevisitingteam.
4. Tominimizeexpenses,geographicallocationwillbeconsideredwhenselectingtheteam.Innocase,however,willamemberoftheteambeemployedinthesameprovinceinwhichtheinstitutionislocated.
Duties of the Chair of the Site Visiting Team
Thedutiesofthechairofthesitevisitingteamwillbeasfollows:
1. Toplanthesitevisitwiththedesignatedinstitutionalrepresentativeinadvanceofthevisit.2. Toassigndutiestositevisitingteammembers.3. Tochairanorganizationalmeetingatthebeginningofthesitevisit.4. Toorganizeandsupervisetheactivitiesofthesitevisitingteam.5. Tospeakforthesitevisitingteaminconferenceswithadministrativeofficersofthe
institution.6. Tocollectreportsfromteammembersandprepareafinalreporttobeforwardedtothe
ChairoftheCouncilonAccreditationnolaterthanfourweeksafterthesitevisit.
Conduct of the Site Visit
1. Sitevisitingteammembersshouldarrangetheirtravelschedulessothatarrivalsanddeparturescoincidewiththebeginningofthesitevisitandthecompletionofofficialbusiness.Sitevisitingteammembersshouldnotarrivelatenorshouldtheyleavebeforetheworkoftheteamhasbeencompleted.
2. TeammembersshouldsendcopiesoftheirtravelschedulesinadvancetotheChairoftheCouncilonAccreditation,theChairoftheSiteVisitingTeam,andthedesignatedrepresentativeoftheapplyinginstitution.
3. Socialengagementsforeitherthesitevisitingteamorindividualmembersshouldbeavoided.Eveningsshouldbekeptfreesothatteammembersmayconferwithoneanother.
4. TheChairoftheSiteVisitingTeamshouldholdameetingofteammembersontheafternoonoreveningbeforethesitevisitbegins.Thepurposeofthemeetingistoreviewrelevantmaterials,toplantheteam’swork,andtodivideupresponsibilities.
5. Normally,thesitevisitingteamshouldplanto:

a) examinethelibraryfacilities;b) reviewtheprogramindepthwiththeacademicstaff;c) meetwithadministrativeofficersoftheinstitution,includingthoseinpositions
todiscusswithauthoritytheinstitution'soverallattitudetowardsthecounselloreducationprogram;
d) meetwithindividualfacultymembers;ande) interviewstudentsandgraduates.
ThesitevisitingteammayalsorequestaninterviewwitheitherthePresidentorhis/herdesignee.
6. Sitevisitingteammembersshouldconferwithoneanother,asnecessary,duringthevisittoexamineprogressandtoplanfortherestofthevisit.Ameetingshouldbeheldattheendofthesitevisittoconsolidateimpressions,toidentifyrequirementsthatneedtobemet,andtodraftrecommendationsarisingfromthesitevisit.
7. Beforeleaving,theChairandothersitevisitingteammembersshoulddiscusswithappropriateofficersandfacultyoftheinstitutiontheirgeneralimpressionsoftheprogram.Thepurposeofthismeetingistoallowforverificationand/orcorrectionofinformationbyprogramandadministrativerepresentatives.
Format of the Site Visit Report
PreparationofthefinalreportofthesitevisitistheresponsibilityoftheChairoftheSiteVisitingTeamalthoughvariousaspectsofthereportwritingmaybedelegatedtoindividualteammembers.Thesitevisitingteamreportshouldfollowthefollowingformat:

Disposition of the Site Visit Report
ThepreparationoftheSiteVisitReportiscoordinatedbytheChairoftheSiteVisitingTeamwhoforwardsthereport,alongwithanyminorityorsupplementaryreports,totheChairoftheCouncilonAccreditationnolaterthanfourweeksafterthesitevisit.
AcopyofthisreportwillbesenttothePresidentoftheapplyinginstitutionorhis/herdesignee,theDeanoftheFaculty,theHeadoftheadministrativeunitinwhichthecounselloreducationprogramislocated,andtotheProfessionalLeaderoftheCounsellorEducationProgramforverificationofthefactualdataand/orforcomment.Theinstitutionwillhaveonemonthinwhichtorespondbyprovidingadditionalmaterialsconcerningthefactsand

conclusionsinthewrittenreport.Noactionwillbetakenonthereportuntiltheendoftheone‐monthperiod.
Categories for Decisions on Accreditation
AfterreviewingtheSiteVisitReportandtheteam'srecommendationregardingaccreditationandanyadditionalinformationprovidedbytheapplicantinstitution,theCouncilonAccreditationwilldecidetheactiontobetakenonaccreditation.TheCouncilwillmakeadecisiontoplacetheprogramintooneofthefollowingthreecategories:
a. FullApproval(fora6‐yearperiod)b. ProvisionalApproval(fora3‐yearperiod)c. DenialofApproval
ThedecisionmadebytheCouncilonAccreditationwillbecomeeffectiveasofthemonthofthesitevisit.Accreditedprogramsmustpayanannualfeeof$750.00dueonthedatewhenaccreditationfirstappliesandontheanniversarydateforeachyearthereafter.
Making Decisions on Accreditation
1. TheCouncilonAccreditationwillberesponsibleformakingallfinaldecisionsregardingprogramaccreditation.
2. TheCouncilonAccreditationwilltreatasconfidentialallmaterialsanddeliberationpertainingtoanyinstitution.
3. TwomembersoftheCouncilonAccreditationwillbeassignedtoreviewtheinformationonaspecificprogramandmakeseparaterecommendationstotheCouncilonAccreditation.Theywillbesuppliedwith(a)acopyoftheprogram’sapplicationforaccreditation,(b)acopyoftheSiteVisitReport,and(c)acopyoftheinstitution’sresponsetotheSiteVisitReport.
4. NomemberoftheCouncilonAccreditationmayparticipateinadecisiononaccreditationforaninstitutionwithwhichhe/shehashadorcurrentlyhasaformalaffiliation(e.g.,asafacultymember,astudent,oremployee)orforwhichhe/shehasbeenamemberofthesitevisitationteam.
5. Informationonaprogram‘sapplicationwillbereviewedanddiscussedatthefirstmeetingoftheCouncilonAccreditationfollowingtheSiteVisit.Aftercarefulreviewofthematerialsprovided,eacheligiblememberoftheCouncilonAccreditationshallparticipateinthediscussionandvoteonarecommendationregardingaccreditation(i.e.,FullApprovalfor6years,ProvisionalApprovalfor3years,orDenialofApproval).
6. Atleast2/3ofthevotingmembersoftheCouncilonAccreditationmustrecommendFullorProvisionalAccreditationforaprogramtobeplacedinthatcategory.Programsthatdonotreceivethissupportwillbedeniedapproval.

7. TheChairoftheCouncilonAccreditationwillcollateandsummarizetherecommendationsoftheCouncilmembersandwillprovidespecificfeedback,inwriting,toeachinstitutionwhengrantedordeniedaccreditation.AllsuchfeedbackwillbesentdirectlytothePresidentoftheinstitutionorhis/herdesignee,andtotheProfessionalLeaderoftheCounsellorEducationProgram.
8. AnyinformationregardingaccreditationdecisionswillbereleasedonlybytheChairoftheCouncilonAccreditation.
9. WhenProvisionalApprovalisgrantedbytheCouncilonAccreditation,thespecificstepsthatmustbetakenbytheinstitutiontogainFullApprovalwillbespecified,inwriting,andsentbytheChairtothePresidentoftheinstitutionorhis/herdesignee,andtotheProfessionalLeaderoftheCounsellorEducationProgram.
10. ProvisionalApprovalextendsforthreeyears.Bytheendofthesecondyear,theprogrammustre‐applyforaccreditation.AttheendofthethreeyearstheCouncilonAccreditationwillmakeanotherdecisionontheaccreditationstatusoftheprogram.Innocasewilltheprogramretainprovisionalstatusformorethanthreeyears.IftheCCPAStandardsarenotmetbytheprogramattheendofthreeyears,programdenialwillbeautomaticunlesstheinstitutionchoosestowithdrawitsapplication.Fullapprovalwillextendforsixyears.Attheendofthefifthyear,theprogrammustreapplyforaccreditation.
11. Inordertomaintainitsaccreditedstatus,aprogramwillberequiredtosubmittotheChairoftheCouncilonAccreditation,ashortyearlyreportandalongerreportatthemidpointoftheaccreditationcycle.TheCouncilonAccreditationwillreviewthereportandtheChairwillprovideawrittenresponsetothesubmissioneachyear.
Notification to the Institution
TheChairoftheCouncilonAccreditationwillforwardacopyofthedecisionoftheCouncilonAccreditation,withspecificfeedbacktothePresidentoftheinstitutionorhis/herdesignee,andtotheProfessionalLeaderoftheCounsellorEducationProgram.Theinstitutionwillbeinformedofitsrighttoappealanunfavourabledecisionandofthedeadlineforfilinganappeal.Adecisionofdenialwillnotbeformalizedforaperiodofonemonthaftertheinstitutionhasbeennotifiedofitsrighttoappeal.
Appeal Procedures
AdecisionofdenialofapprovalbytheCouncilonAccreditationmaybeappealedwithinonemonthafterthedecisionhasbeenmadeandnotificationhasbeensent.Theappealprocedureisasfollows:
1. TheinstitutionwillappealinwritingtotheCouncilonAccreditationgivingitsreasonsforrequestingreconsiderationofthedecision.

2. TheCouncilonAccreditationwillhavetheresponsibilityofappointingaHearingPanelmadeupofaminimumofthreemembers.MembersoftheHearingPanelshallbeacceptabletotheInstitution.
3. IfanothersitevisitisdeemedappropriatebytheHearingPanelandagreedtobytheappealinginstitution,theinstitutionmustpaytheactualexpensesincurredbythesiteHearingPanel.
4. TheHearingPanel,onthebasisofitsreviewofthepertinentmaterialsonwhichthedecisionoftheCouncilonAccreditationwasmade,willdecideontheappeal.TheHearingPanelmaydecideto:
a) UpholdthedecisionoftheCouncilonAccreditation.TheCouncilonAccreditationwillreceivefromtheHearingPanel,awrittenstatementgivingtherationaleforthePanel’sdecision.
b) RescindthedecisionoftheCouncilonAccreditationandrenderadecision,whichitconsidersappropriate.TheCouncilonAccreditationwillreceivefromtheHearingPanelawrittenstatementgivingtherationaleforthePanel’sdecision.
5. TheChairoftheCouncilonAccreditationwillforwardthedecisionoftheHearingPaneltothePresidentoftheinstitutionorhis/herdesignee,andtotheProfessionalLeaderoftheCounsellorEducationProgram.
6. ThedecisionoftheHearingPanelisfinal.7. Anapplicantinstitution,whichhasbeendeniedapproval,mayreinstateapplicationfor
accreditationafteroneyear.
Confidentiality and Publication
Inaccordancewithacceptedpracticesinaccreditation,theCouncilonAccreditationregardsallaccreditationmaterialspertainingtoaninstitutionasconfidential.Uponrequestfromtheinstitution,however,informationmaybemadeavailabletootherrecognizedaccreditingagenciesbywhomtheinstitutionhasbeenaccreditedorofwhomitisseekingaccreditation.Otherwise,theinformationmaybedisclosedonlyiftheCouncilonAccreditationislegallyrequiredtodoso.
Routinely,theCouncilonAccreditationwillpublishlistsofaccreditedprogramsintheCanadianJournalofCounsellingandPsychotherapy,includingtheyearofthenextscheduledreview.Listsofaccreditedprogramsmaybedistributedtointerestedorganizations,agencies,orindividuals.

1. Duringtheirtraining,studentsmustcompleteaninitial100‐hoursupervisedpracticum.Thepurposeofthispracticumistofosterthedevelopmentofcounsellingskillsundersupervision.Thepracticumwillinclude:
a) 50hoursofdirectservicewithclients,includingexperienceinindividualcounselling(minimum40hours)andgroupwork(minimum10hours);
b) weeklyinteractionwithanaverageofonehourperweekofindividualand/orjoint(twostudentsandonesupervisor)supervision;
c) anaverageofoneandonehalfhoursperweekofgroupsupervisionbasedonvideorecordingandcasestudiesthatisprovidedonaregularscheduleoverthecourseofthestudent’spracticumbyaprogramfacultymemberorasupervisorunderthesupervisionofaprogramfacultymember;
d) evaluationofthestudent’sperformancethroughoutthepracticumincludingaformalwrittenevaluationafterthestudentcompletesthepracticum.
Facultysupervisorsareresponsibleforthesupervisionofnomorethanfivepracticumstudentsduringanyterm.
Supervisionofpracticumstudentsiscreditedbytheuniversityasasignificantpartofthefacultymember'snormalworkload.2. Studentsmustcompleteafinal400hoursupervisedpracticum:
a) ofthe400hoursofsupervisedpracticum,aminimumof200hoursisspentindirectclientcontact;
b) ofthe200hoursspentindirectclientcontact,aminimumof160hoursisspentinindividualcounselling;
c) ofthe200hoursspentindirectclientcontact,aminimumof40hoursisspentingroupwork;
d) thepracticumshouldprovidetheopportunityforthestudenttobecomefamiliarwithavarietyofprofessionalactivitiesinadditiontodirectservice(e.g.,recordkeeping,supervision,informationandreferral,teamwork,in‐serviceandstaffmeetings);
e) thepracticumshouldprovideanopportunityforthestudenttodevelopprogram‐appropriateaudioand/orvideotapesofthestudent’sinteractionswithclientsforuseinsupervision;
f) thepracticumshouldprovidetheopportunityforthestudenttogainsupervisedexperienceintheuseofavarietyofprofessionalresourcessuchasassessmentinstruments,technologies,printandmultimedia,professionalliterature,andresearch;and
g) thereshouldbeaformalevaluationofthestudent’sperformanceduringthefinalpracticumbyaprogramfacultymemberinconsultationwiththesitesupervisor.

Practicumexperiencesreceivedoff‐campusaresupervisedbysitepersonnelwhohave,atminimum,amaster’sdegreeincounselling;significant(minimumtwoyearsofpertinentprofessionalexperience)counsellingexperience;reputedcompetence;andknowledgeoftheprogram’sexpectation,requirements,andevaluationproceduresforstudents.
8. Theprogramfacultyprovidesorientation,assistance,andconsultationtosupervisors.9. Fieldpersonnelwhoassumemajorresponsibilityforthesupervisionofastudent's
