Deliveries went smoothly despite weather that kept water taxis to Kingcome and Gilford tied up and a last minute toy run to Port Alice. In Port Hardy, firefighters and a group of faithful volunteers took on the task of delivering nearly 300 hampers in just a few hours. Special thanks to Overwaitea staff Dwayne, Ben, Brett, Jason, and Rob who were of tremendous help in getting food to us for the big day. In Alert Bay, the Namgis band and the Lions worked together to deliver their hampers on Dec. 16. Special thanks to Diane Alfred for organizing there. In Sointula, the Lions delivered hampers stocked with toys wrapped by the Port McNeill Lioness. In Port Alice, the Lions were once again onboard, with some toys brought over from Port Hardy. Port McNeill Lions took care of Port McNeill, Woss and Zeballos as well as Gilford and Kingcome. Special thanks to the Port McNeill RCMP for taking a hamper to Zeballos. To make it all happen, truck loads of food and toys have been donated and nearly $40,000 in cash to pay the bills. So truly the Gazette Hamper Fund is a North Island project. Danica Poje just hors- ing around with some gifts on their way into hampers. Carlye Smedley, Shelby Smithson and Janice Barnes were all Santa’s helpers during delivery of hampers in Port Hardy.
