    Undergraduate Application Procedures

    1. UC/CCM Online Application Undergraduate applicantsmust apply online through our Web site at http://ccm.uc.edu.Click on the Apply Now link to begin the application, which will

    serve both the university and CCM. A non-re undable $110 applica-tion ee (the UC ee and the CCM ee combined) will be collectedat the end o the application. I you are applying to two CCMmajors (e.g. Musical Theatre and Voice or Jazz Percussion, and Clas-sical Percussion), select the second major when you apply online.You will be charged an additional college ee o $60 or the secondCCM major. CURRENT UC STUDENTS:Request a paper application rom the CCM Admissions O ce. I you entered UC be ore the all o 2007, ll out the paper Application or Change in College as well. (I you entered UC during or a ter the all o 2007, CCM Admissions will print your high school and any previous college transcripts rom the UC Admissions database.)

    2. Transcript and Test Scores Request an o cial transcriptrom each institution attended. Current U.S. high school students

    should also have their high school counselor ll out and send theUC College Prep orm (http://admissions.uc.edu/content/dam/admissions/docs/collegeprep orm.pd ).

    Trans er students must send all college transcripts. I you haveearned ewer than 60 semester hours or 90 quarter hours, you mustalso send your high school transcript. High school transcripts mustbe sent directly to the University o Cincinnati AdmissionsO ce (not CCM):

    Music Theory Test In addition to the audition/interview,undergraduate applicants to all music categories (except Musical Theatre applicants) will take a general theory and musicianshipexam on the day o the audition, either in Cincinnati or at an out-o -town site. This exam consists o equal parts written and auralproblems; each section includes major and minor scales, intervals,triads, and other basic elements.

    Graduate Application Procedures

    3. Recommendations Three recommendations are requiredor all graduate applicants. When you apply you will be asked

    to provide email addresses or your recommenders. When theapplication is received they will receive an email asking them tosubmit a letter o recommendation to us electronically. You willreceive an email rom the university con rming the receipt o yourrecommendation.

    4. 500-Word Applicant Statement This statement shouldinclude your objectives and rank observations o your pro essionaland personal strengths and weaknesses, any signi cant pro es-sional experiences or honors, and any other in ormation you think important.

    5. GRE Requirement All DMA and PhD applicants and MMapplicants in composition, musicology, music theory, and musiceducation must take the GRE General Test and orward the resultsto CCM Admissions (school code 1833, department 2404). ArtsAdministration applicants take the GRE or GMAT (83C-4L-52). Forthe dual MBA/MA program, you must submit GMAT scores.

    Artist diploma applicants, MM applicants in all per ormanceprograms, conducting and all MFA applicants to the Theater Designand Production program are not required to take the GRE. For spe-

    ci c in ormation regarding test sites and dates, go to http://www.gre.org or http://www.mba.com.An acceptance letter and/or scholarship o er will not be

    sent without a GRE or GMAT score i your program requiresthis test.

    6. International Applicants Applicants rom non-Englishspeaking countries are required to prove English pro ciency (seeadditional instructions on page 6).

    Applicants outside o the continental U.S. may de er takingthe GRE until the rst term o enrollment at CCM.

    7. Graduate Assistantships Assistantships ( ull tuition plusnine-month stipend) are available in all majors areas EXCEPT:composition (composition applicants can apply or the theory GA),euphonium and harpsichord. The graduate assistantships are basedon talent and merit, not nancial need. Re er to Financing YourEducation on page 20 or in ormation on need-based aid. The nalrecommendation or an assistantship is made by the aculty andcan be discussed at the time o your audition or interview.

    2. Transcripts Undergraduates: Please submit school transcripts or marks sheets that show each o the our yearso study prior to graduation rom high school as well as any college transcripts. I your high school course was com-pleted in three years, please submit the nal year o study in middle school. Transcripts must be submitted in the native language AND sent with a translated English transcript o cially certi edwith a seal. I you are attending a high school in the United States, transcripts are required rom both the U.S. high schooland rom your home country school. Graduates: Forward OFFICIAL TRANSLATED COPIES o your TRANSCRIPTS (records o academic work which you taken while in college). 3. English Pro ciency Requirement English pro ciency is required o all applicants whose native language is notEnglish. English pro ciency can also be demonstrated by obtaining a bachelors degree rom an English speaking univer-

    Arts Administration MAInterview dates in Cincinnati are February 4-5, and 18-19. Test scores,resume, and transcript are required or prescreening and interviews areheld by invitation only. December 1 is the early application deadline;February 1 is the nal application deadline.

    All applicants must orward results o the GRE (school code1833, department code 2404) or GMAT (83C-4L-52). Admission decisions will not be made until the scores are received. The 500-wordapplicant statement and resum must be sent as an e-mail attach-ment to [email protected] i not attached to application. Three letters o recommendation rom teachers, employers, orsimilarly quali ed individuals are also required. Personal and pro es-sional quali cations should be emphasized.

    The College o Business and the College-Conservatory o Musico er a joint program leading to the degrees o master o business(MBA) and master o arts (MA) in arts administration. Studentsadmitted to the joint program may earn both degrees in two yearso ull-time study rather than three years. Separate applicationsmust be submitted to the College-Conservatory o Music and theCollege o Business. All joint degree applicants must take the GMAT.

    All incoming students, in both the MA and MA/MBA programs,must complete the online Harvard Introduction to SpreadsheetModeling course with a passing grade be ore beginning course-work in the all. Please be aware that the online registration process

    or this course does provide a pre-test by which you can exemptyoursel rom taking the course.

    Ballet BFA Applicants may audition in Cincinnati or other designated audition site,

    or by video/DVD; however, or scholarship consideration an in-personaudition is required.The audition will consist o a traditional classical ballet barre

    and center ollowed by several combinations o pointe work ( orwomen only). Dancers will then take the modern dance compo-nent, which consists o movement sequences demonstrating theability to per orm foor work and various rhythmic and spatially-oriented structures. O -site audition ormats may vary slightly.

    Female dancers should bring ballet slippers, pointe shoes andhave ooted tights that can be rolled up to ankle or cal -length orthe modern component o the audition. Traditional attire (black leotard and pink tights) is recommended. Male dancers shouldbring socks and ballet slippers as well as tights that can be rolled upto accommodate the modern dance component o the audition. Traditional attire (black tights and white t-shirt) is also recommend-ed. Each dancer should bring a video/DVD o himsel or hersel per orming a solo variation rom the standard classical repertoireto the on-site audition. (For regional audition, mail to CCM DanceDivision.) This video should include a short introduction o thedancer stating his or her name, name o the variation and name o the studio where the dancer trains. The video/DVD will be taggedwith the dancers audition date and number and submitted to the

    aculty member conducting the audition. Only the introductionand selected variation should be on the video/DVD. Variations maybe per ormed in practice clothes or costume either in the studio oron stage. Per ormance tapes are acceptable but should show only

    the applying dancer. Videos/DVDs will not be returned.Applicants must submit a ull-length photo with the applicant

    dressed in regular ballet classroom attire, posed in arabesque enlair (women en pointe).

    Bassoon BM Applicants are encouraged to audition in Cincinnati, but may audition at aregional site.

    Applicants should be prepared to play all major and minorscales and arpeggios plus two contrasting solo selections and atleast two orchestral excerpts.

    Bassoon MM, DMA, ADMM applicants are encouraged to audition in Cincinnati, but may audition at a regional site. DMA and AD applicants must audition inCincinnati.

    The College-Conservatory o Music has no set repertoirerequirement or the graduate admission audition. It is important

    that the applicant choose selections which represent current per-ormance capabilities rom a variety o musical styles and periods.Orchestral excerpts are highly recommended.

    Clarinet BM Applicants may audition in Cincinnati or at a regional site. Recorded auditions, submitted via ArtsApp.com/CCM , are accepted only romstudents who are not currently living or studying in the continental United States. Auditions or BM will be held Feb. 4 and Feb. 6.

The prerequisite or the PhD in music (musicology emphasis) is a masters degree in musicology, music his-tory, or music theory. Prospective students who have masters degreesin other areas o music or closely related disciplines should apply or theMM in music history.

    Applicants should submit a research paper on a subject related

    to music history. A personal interview is recommended and isrequired i applying or a graduate assistantship. CCM must receivematerials at least three weeks prior to the admission interview.Applicants take a three-hour music history diagnostic exambeginning at 3 p.m. on Friday. On Saturday they meet with theMusicology aculty at 9 a.m. a ter which individual admission inter-views and teaching assistantship interviews are conducted. Lunchand a tour o the library acilities are also included.

    The assistantship interview will consist o a twenty-minute

    meeting with members o the musicology aculty. The time willbe divided into a ten-minute interview and a ten-minute teachingdemonstration.     Dance Audition Consists o a warm-up and a combinationrom a Broadway musical in the jazz idiom. Candidates should

    dress in basic dance wear. Women should wear character or jazzshoes, or ballet slippers, leotards, tights, dance skirts or non-bulkywarm-up wear. Men should wear jazz or ballet shoes, tights, jazzpants, t-shirts or shorts. Sneakers are not recommended.

    Vocal Audition Applicants should prepare two selectionsrom the standard musical theatre repertoire, one ballad and one

    up-tempo number. Each musical selection should not exceed32 measures in length, and numbers with multiple verses or

    repetitions should be cut with this limitation in mind. Both selec-tions must be memorized. In Cincinnati, an accompanist will beprovided. Auditionees should provide a binder with their sheetmusic in the correct key, with all cuts and tempi clearly marked.No a cappella singing or taped accompaniment will be permit-ted in Cincinnati. I auditioning at a regional site, you must bringa recording o your accompaniment on iPod or CD only (no cas-sette tapes). Musical numbers should not include choreography.

    Acting Audition Applicants should prepare a monologuerom a contemporary or classical play. Monologues may be

    comic or dramatic and should not exceed one minute in length.Longer pieces should be cut to observe the time limitation.

    Organ BM Applicants may audition in Cincinnati or by tape/CD. Freshmen audition on piano and organ. Trans ers cannot be accommodated at a regional site.

    A strong piano background is needed or admission to theorgan program. There ore, the reshman applicant must preparetwo piano pieces: a two- or three-part invention by J.S. Bach anda sonatina movement by Clementi, Mozart, or Beethoven, etc. I desired, the student may instead per orm one piano piece and oneorgan piece. Trans er students are to prepare two organ pieces: oneBaroque and one 19th- or 20th-century work.

    Organ MM, DMAOrgan auditions cannot be accommodated at a regional site. MMmay send a tape/CD or audition in Cincinnati. DMA must audition inCincinnati. Applicants living outside the continental U.S. may submit ahigh-quality audio or video tape or CD.

    Two major works, one rom the Baroque period, such as a

    prelude and ugue by Bach or Buxtehude, and one rom the 19thor 20th century are required. Well-developed skill in sight readingis also required. Audition also serves as a preliminary to the StraderOrgan Scholarship Competition on March 5, 2011.

    Percussion BMPercussionists cannot be accommodated at a regional site, but may audition in Cincinnati or send an audition DVD. No audio tapes or CDswill be accepted.

    Applicants in percussion are expected to have acility in each o the ollowing areas:

    Auditions and interviews or the opera AD program are byinvitation only. The CCM aculty will be looking or superior vocalquality and dramatic commitment. I invited to audition, applicantswill visit the CCM campus or an extended audition experienceover two days, February 18-19. This audition experience will includecoaching, acting, improvisation, movement, an interview with theopera aculty, and a vocal audition be ore the combined opera andvoice aculties. All expenses or the audition trip must be assumedby the auditioning students.

    AD Opera Coaching Track Applicants must audition in Cincinnati, unless waived by the OperaChair.

    Applicants should already have earned a bachelors degree withcollege-level pro ciency in French, German and Italian. The pro-gram is extremely competitive with no more than three studentsenrolled in any given year. The auditions will take place Jan. 22, Feb.5, and Feb. 19.
