GALLERY DUBLIN
It was an exhibition that gave a
new impetus to craft
exhibitions. At the opening it
appeared as if the entire
invitation list had turned up.
The media, from the Gerry
Ryan show to the Irish Times
and Social and Personal, could
not get enough of this creation
of five room set interiors.
Five people were chosen to
create the bedsit, hotel lobby,
home office, the bedroom and
bathroom, none of whom were
interior designers. The five were

broadcaster, who was asked to
decorate a bedroom. Robert

The project involved a huge
amount of preparation includ-
ing building an interior structur-
al shell within the gallery on
which to build the rooms. All
involved worked around the
clock right up until the last
minute when the show opened.
This resulted in an exhibition for
which the co-ordinator Anya
von Gosseln deserves great
praise. Without her it would not
have been possible.
This achievement stimulated the
imagination of all those who
attended the exhibitions. It
focused makers on the
environments in which their work
is housed. It also focused clients
on the fact that craft objects are

CRAFTS COUNCIL
1992 AGM
The 16th Annual General
Meeting of the Crafts Council
of Ireland was held at the
Dublin office on 9th
September, 1993. This
meeting was preceded by a
presentation by Patricia Quinn
on the development of Temple
Bar and the proposed craft
centre. The chairman outlined
the year's activities and
particularly the excellent
Showcase results which were
back to the high levels of
1990. In addition to a vibrant
gallery programme the Crafts
Council's training
programmes have continued
with the Pottery Skills Course in
Thomastown continuing for a
3rd year. He also remarked on
the Business/Design Skills
Course's continuing success
with the 90 craft businesses
being set up by graduates of
the Business/Design Skills
Course being testimony to the
success of the programme.
Thanks were extended to the
Council's funding bodies who
make the activities possible
such as the IDA and the EC for
the training under ESF, SERtec
and LEDU. An Bord Trachtala
was also thanked for its close
links with the Crafts Council
particularly in relation to
