AGHO Volunteer Fees and Expenses
We have two definitions of guest Short Term and Long Term. Short Term being under 15 days and Long Term being longer than 15 days.
Short term: There are a few options available to volunteers to help pay for their living expenses during their stay at AGHO. Volunteers who are here for a short period (under 15 days) are asked to pay the set fee of $25 a day. This payment helps us provide for many costs such as: Accommodations
Lunch and supper prepared specifically for you by our cook in a westernized Khmer style. Breakfast supplies are provided but not prepared. o Note that this is not the same meal served to the children
Utilities such as electric, gas, and water
Provisions for repairs
Wireless internet
Toilet paper and soap
Long term:
A volunteer planning to stay with us for a longer period of time (more than 15days) is encouraged to cook for themselves. After this 15 day period a guest should be able to learn to use the local markets, where to shop and when trips to the city will be made. Also learning to use the local bus and taxies will help your ability to shop at the western markets in the city. Volunteers wishing to volunteer at AGHO for longer periods (over 15 days) are provided with two additional options. Buy and prepare your own meals in the dorm kitchen or Pay a monthly fee of $55 and eat with the children during their mealtimes o Note that this is a traditional Khmer style meal visitors may not be accustomed to
Long term volunteers are require a payment of your monthly utility use. The living quarters for volunteers are equipped with a separate electric meter. The monthly cost of all utilities will be split between you and the other people living in the volunteer dorm. Toiletries will not be included for long term volunteers. Utilities are electricity and propane for the stove. This costs depends on your use, a rough estimate would be under $100 shared by the number of guest. Using the A/C will raise electricity cost by $200 a month. Not using the A/C, not taking hot showers or doing a lot of baking will reduce your cost. Water through the faucet for showers will always be included for short and long term guests.
Long term guest should budget roughly $500 a month to live in Cambodia. This will be more than enough but will not cover things like extra travel or emergencies.
