Bajaj Electricals brings light Into the
many rural households across the heart
of our country. Under the Rajiv Gandhi
Grameen Vidyutikaran Yojana about 7
lakhs BPL (below poverty line) homes
have been lit up in remote villages of
West Bengal, Orissa and Chhattisgarh.
We have already brought hope to
39,365 rural households in Chhattisgarh
and we are honoured to continue our
work to take the nation forward.
We are thankful to CSPDCL
(Chhattisgarh State Power Distribution
Company Ltd.) and NESCL (NTPC Electric
Supply Company Ltd.) who provided us
the opportunity to serve the people in
remote villages.
It is a proud moment for us at
Bajaj Electricals and indeed for the
entire country.
Five EPisodes are complete;
and it's January 2011, which
means yet another calendar
year has drawn to a close.
The year gone by has been
significant in many ways for
both, Country and Company.
India has become sports
oriented like never before
with its success at
Commonwealth Games 2010
and Asian Games 2010. The
country is also back to a
healthy GDP growth of 8.9% .
The year has been special for
Bajaj as well:
The awesome lighting by
BEL was very visible
around the Commonwealth Games venues in New Delhi.
The original Bajaj Eye logo completed 50 years of existence an
emotional experience for any brand.
For the very first time BEL touched a market capitalization of over
` 3000 crore.
For the first time in its history E&P BU qualified for the sub-station
erection of over 132 KV lines.
E&P BU also bagged its largest LED order, fending off stiff
competition for Kolkatta's Vidhya Sagar Setu 2 Bridge.
Introduction of the auto lift iron by the company has been a
significant contribution by R&D of the company.
But lots of challenges still lie ahead and E&P BU has to raise the bar
further to achieve its goal of crossing the daunting ` 1000 crore mark, in
the remainder of the financial year 2010-11. Working capital
improvement is going to be key to profitability, growth and sustenance.
We will strengthen our training and skills to achieve the big challenges
that are ahead. The company as a whole will focus diligently towards
human resource development and R&D.
Wishing you all a great coming in 2011.

Dear EPDians,
On the occasion of the 1st Anniversary and New Year special issue of EPisodes,
let me congratulate the Editorial team of this in-house magazine, who worked
with great zest throughout the year to compile every quarterly issue.
At the same time, I take this opportunity to wish you all a very Happy and
Prosperous New Year.
We have hardly just the final quarter of the Financial Year left, and given that E&P
contributes more than one-third of Bajaj Electricals turnover, our performance
would determine the performance of the company in a considerable way.
After twenty eight quarters (almost seven years) of continuous growth from
quarter to quarter, the July-September 2010 quarter has shown a negative
growth mainly because of margin erosion. This quarter was extremely difficult
for E&P and the margins were majorly impacted.
When the margins get impacted because of increase in raw material cost or
competitive price pressures, the only way that one can still achieve the planned
profit objective is by concentrating on volumes, working capital and cost
optimization.
As far as costs are concerned, employee cost is a major cost and therefore
clearly each one needs to put in that extra effort to work more efficiently so that
increased output can be maintained without addition to the head count.
Inventories are within our control and therefore proper managing and planning
is necessary so that we can work at minimum inventories.
As far as receivables are concerned, there is need to have proper
documentation and follow up to assure we receive payments as per schedule.
We are fortunate that we have an order book of over ` 1000 crore as on
December 31, 2010. Therefore, we must ensure that maximum orders get
converted into sales. I hope that from the current quarter onward we will get
back to our winning ways.
Wishing all EPDians all the very best in the New Year!
SHEKHAR BAJAJChairman & Managing Director
Bajaj Electricals Ltd.

Dear EPDians,
EPisodes is already a year old... I
would like to express my deep
appreciation to the Editorial Team
for the success on the initiative
taken to connect all EPDians
across all our offices, regions,
branches, manufacturing units
and project sites.
I also take this opportunity to wish
each and every EPDian and their
family members a very Happy
and Prosperous New Year 2011,
filled with fun, frolic, good health
and sterling performance at work.
The year 2010, which has just
gone by, has been very exciting
with all the ups and downs
associated with our business. Let us now welcome 2011 which zooms in, full of
promises and huge potential and with all the challenges that make our work life
so exciting and satisfying.
Our past record of consistent performance did face a dent in the closing stages
of 2010, which once again gives all EPDians an opportunity to prove that 'When
the going gets tough, the tough get going'; and close FY 2010-11 on a high
note. Let us resolve to overcome our problems by focusing on major issues of
concern like working capital, outstanding, inventories and thereby improve our
efficiency and competitiveness.
I am sure that with the dedicated team spirit of EPDians, we will overcome all
challenges and live up to the expectations of the company and all stakeholders
and keep the flag flying higher and stronger.
Wishing you all the very best for the Year 2011!!
Good Luck

Dear EPDians,
My congratulations on completing the first anniversary of EPisodes and
coming up with a high quality, informative, relevant and meaningful in-
house magazine. The editorial team deserves our kudos and thanks.
The E&P BU makes a significant difference in meeting the infrastructure
needs of our country in diverse segments such as Power Transmission,
Power Distribution, Rural Electrification, Area Lighting, Sports Lighting
and Road Signages. Indeed the E&P BU is an integral part of India's
infrastructure story across vital sectors like Power, Roads, Industry,
Aviation, Ports, etc.
India will see USD 500 Billion of investments in the infrastructure sector
in the coming 5 years. This presents a unique opportunity for value
creation and redefining the role as well as future goals and
achievements of E&P BU. In this endeavor of building tomorrow's India, I
wish Team Bajaj E&P BU, a glorious success and many successful
milestones.
Yours cordially,
R RAMAKRISHNAN

FROM THE EDITOR'S DESK
Its celebration time! And no, we aren't just talking about the New Year. Or may be we
are talking about the new year. A different kind of new year. From the perspective of
EPisodes, it is also a new year – our second year begins with this issue.
Exactly one year ago, our first issue saw the light of day. Five issues later, we have to say,
it's been a happy journey, and for which we have a few people to thank. Primarily the
support and encouragement of the management, and of course, you the reader.
But enough of the serious bit. On this the first anniversary of EPisodes, we've decided
that celebration means fun. So fun is what we're going to have. This issue, we're going
to focus on the anniversary, you the people at E&P and on a trip down memory lane.
For starters, we're sprucing up our editorial page itself. After all the hard work put in
over the past year, we thought we owe ourselves a bit of fun.
Of course, some of our regular features still stay. Work after all, does go on. Before we
sign off, we'd like to thank all our well wishers, all those who supported and encouraged
us, and especially all those who wrote in and contributed towards making EPisodes
what we intended it to be... a forum for everyone at E&P.
Happy New Year. Work hard and have plenty of fun. As you can see, we’re already
practicing what we preach.

Innovation has always been a hallmark of E&P BU.
We have pioneered several advances in our scope of
business, introducing the country to avant garde
elements especially in lighting and transmission.
Umbrella Masts is another initiative.
The basic issue with lighting atop a mast – as is the
case with street lights and other outdoor lighting
systems – is that it is difficult to carry out regular
maintenance of the luminaires or repaint and replace
the canopy. With a single stroke of innovation,
Umbrella Masts circumvent these problems.
Down to Earth SolutionsUmbrella Masts comprise a movable system, which
can raise or lower the contraption as desired. When
maintenance of the luminaries is required or they
have to be replaced, a pulley arrangement lowers the
luminary housing perched at the top, bringing it down
almost to ground level. Once the maintenance is
complete, the same arrangement raises the housing
back into position high above the ground.
In the same way the canopy and poles can be lowered

mast housing controls, operates the luminaries.

PROJECTS ‘n’ PROJECTIONS

In a country where cricket passion is always bubbling under,
and now threatening to boil over with the upcoming World
Cup, the country’s cricket stadia are nothing short of temples
of this popular sport. Which is why, the order received by
Special Projects division to illuminate the new international
cricket stadium near Rajkot, has created a buzz around
E&P BU.
The project, commissioned by the Saurashtra Cricket
Association, demanded a flood lighting system that fulfils
stringent illumination requirements for international level day
and night games. The lighting parameters, that must satisfy
levels suitable for Colour TV / HDTV transmission, are in line
with the latest ICC guidelines.
The high-tech system comprises four polygonal, hot dip
galvanised high masts with fixed head frames. The masts are

Bowling Rajkot Over
At Bajaj we always believe there are no problems... only
solutions. This philosophy was tested on a job high up in the
hills – the picturesque hill station of Mahabaleshwar, in
fact. The client, Evershine Group, desired a wooden look for
some of the architectural highlights at its 4 Star Keys Hotel.
The main issue was climatic, because Mahabaleshwar is
seasonally ravaged by high winds and heavy rains –
sometimes 120'' a year. Our men on the job circumvented
the problem by executing this beautification project using
GRP. The order was worth ̀ 80 lacs.
So appreciative was the client of our capability and speed of
execution, they commissioned us for another assignment –
the design and development of its amusement park at
Global City, Virar, a distant suburb of Mumbai. A follow-up
order worth ` 2 crore. The inauguration is due on
Republic Day.
We remain confident that when we walk away from this
one, another order will be netted.
