TheCommitteeOur initiative that has taken it’s inspiration from similar projects from all over the
world with the aim being, reduce the use of disposable cups.
Our goal is to change consumer behaviour and encourage reusable cups.
Disposable coffee cups are not recyclable in Ireland
Single use items contribute to climate change and resource depletion
The disposal of the cup is only part of the problem!
What is the problem with disposable cupsWe dispose of over 200 million disposable cups annually
Cafes across Ireland offering a discount/incentive when you use your reusable cup
When a Café they joins up they receive a pack including:
a) A window transferb) Posterc) Information letter
• We geo tag the cafe on a map of Ireland showing their location. This map is visible on our website and Facebook page.
• They are indicating they support re-use and value the environment.
• Cafes will begin to see a reduction in costs due to a reduction in waste and less cash flow tied up in stock.

WhataboutCompostableCups?…….theyarestillsingleuseitems
Compostable cups are made of plant material,
this means they must be disposed of in the
appropriate bin, such as your household food
collection bin.
Please remember that we do not have compost bins
on our streets so you need to carry it until you can
dispose of it correctly.
What happens if you put compostable cups into general refuse
When we throw compostable cups into general waste bins, such as on the street, they will either end up in landfill or incineration.
Like sending food waste to landfill, these plant materials will generate methane. Methane is 20 times more harmful than CO2, both these gases contribute to climate change.
Incineration also causes harm to the environment through the gases it releases, the less we send to both landfill and incineration, the better.
Both compostable and non compostable cups
cannot be recycled, if they do end up in your
recycling bin they will contaminate and create
problems in material processing.
The best option is Re-use…Carry a cup and
reduce your impact on our environment.
