"We must be ready to allow ourselves to be interrupted by God." ~ Dietrich Bonhoeffer ~

Our desire is to support Interfaith Hospitality for Christmas. Partnering with this mission will allow us to help give gifts to two families this Christmas. We will be collecting money donations that will go toward children’s Christmas gifts. Interfaith will assign us a few families. We will be collecting money donations through December 9th. Please give all money donations to Charlotte Peek. If you have new toys or home furnishing you would like to donate please see Melody

Ashby. Once donations are collected, we will receive our families that are in need, and then go shopping. Anyone is welcome to join us on the shopping outing once we have a date set!

Barb Grever will be collecting coats for the Dayton Christian Mission over the next few weeks. If you have any gently used coats that you would like to donate please leave them in the marked bin in the coat closet. Barb will be picking up all coats on December 8th. Thanks!

The season of the year has arrived where we focus

on giving. West Side Christians have always been a

part of providing food baskets to needy families

both within the church and within the community.

Christmas baskets are provided to those within the

community in a shared effort by all the churches of

Lebanon. If you would like to donate food items,

please see the list of requested items to the right;

and bring your donations to the church throughout

November and in December prior to the

distribution. If you would like to help with the

distribution, please see Larry or Charlotte Peek. We

say a great thank you for everything anyone does.

I sit here writing this with the house quiet and everyone still asleep in their beds. In a few short hours we will all gather around the table to eat the traditional Thanksgiving meal. I began this quiet morning reading from the Bible. My reading today was from Exodus 32 where God establishes the Passover Feast. This Festival week marked God’s deliverance of Israel from the slavery they found with the Egyptians. It was very timely that I read this passage on Thanksgiving morning. As we read through Scripture we find that God believed pausing to remember significant milestones in life is important. As Christians and Americans we find ourselves doing this as well. We have holidays to remind us of so many achievements in American history. These might remind us that men and women fought and died to protect our freedoms, or those who fought to put an end to racial divisions, or to celebrate the workforce that makes our country great. Celebrating is an essential part to remembering who we are as people, and building upon our ancestor’s foundation. As we transition from our season of Thanksgiving we start to tell the greatest story ever told … the story of Jesus Birth. While this season seems to have started all the way back in October, it is only now that everything really begins. With Christmas parties, Carriage Parades, Live Nativities, and so much more it is easy to get caught up in the busyness of the season and forget the true reason to celebrate. Let me encourage you this Christmas season to make it like no other Christmas season. Pause and find time in silence to reflect on what Christ’s birth means to you and your life. Make it a point this Christmas season to connect with family and restore relationships that you have allowed to crumble. Most of all, let me encourage you to seek out one person that you will invite to join us in worship on Sunday December 21st at 10:30 a.m. in one combined service or for our Christmas Eve Candlelight Service on December 24th at 6:00 p.m.. This past year we have begun a process of becoming an intentional church. We have been led by our leadership coach, David Vaughan, to focus on five areas we believe need emphasis. As we seek to be an intentional church, we do so with the desire of loving and leading people to a life changing relationship with Jesus Christ. Christmas is a great time for you to be intentional and tell the greatest story ever told. In Christ’s Service ~ Michael Dawson, Senior Minister

Beginning in the Garden of Eden when the first man disobeyed God and sinned against Him, God went to work putting in motion our salvation from sin. Our salvation was ultimately realized in the death burial and resurrection of Jesus. For there to be a death, there first had to be a birth. This birth we will celebrate as we lead up to Christmas Sunday. Jesus, We’re Glad You Came. We ask you to invite those you love to join us as we celebrate our savior’s birth.

Christian Children’s Home of Ohio

Christian Children’s Home of Ohio is a home for neglected and

abused children located on a 175 acre site just north of

Wooster, Ohio. The home provides a loving and caring

Christian environment for children of all ages. A significant

part of the home’s ministry is the placing of children in

Christian foster and adoptive homes.

A worship and retreat center has recently

been constructed. It will be used for worship

services for the children, retreats and

seminars, training for the CCHO staff and

overnight housing for groups who come on

short term mission work projects. In the past

West Side has sent work groups to help with

one day projects.

Why not take time today to write a note of

encouragement to the staff for this vital

ministry to children. Or why not plan on

maybe taking a day or even organizing a work

day trip next summer?

Please sign up by Sunday November 30th. We are looking forward to this evening of fellowship, fun, and crafting.

Thanks to everyone who has volunteered to be a prayer partner to a college student this school year. All of the college students have been paired with at least one West Side Christian who is dedicated to praying. It is never too late to become involved. If you haven’t signed up, but would like to, please contact the church office or Kristy ([email protected] or 513-932-1818). We are excited to share with you that we will be highlighting a college student’s current life each month!

Thank you for praying for all of us while we are in school! It really helps, of course! This year, I am a senior at UC and in May, I will graduate with my Bachelors of Science in Signed Language Interpreting (along with my BA in Psychology which I have already earned). The highlight so far is getting to actually interpret for real people. In the past, it's always been in safe classroom settings but now we are allowed (and encouraged) to interpret for real clients. It adds the pressure I need to push myself! Also, I have the opportunity to interpret for a church under the supervision of a certified interpreter. I am so excited to have the opportunity to serve God through my work. Thanks again for praying for all of us! God is doing great things!

Love, Jessica Mink
