PRIYA 'SlylOTHERS DA Y G/jf,T

Priya was excited as she got into the school bus. She was on her way home

. and tomorrow/at las~was Mother's Day. Priya had been pla~nirig for this day

for weeks Since she did not get any pocket money, she could not buy a card

for her mother. Instead, she had made one herself She had spent two whole

nights cuttinq, painting and decoratinq it. She had made a picture of a mother

hugging her daughter and stuck it on the front. She was sure her mother would

love it.

Priya sat clown next to her friend. A.nu. She was about to tell her about the

card she had made for her mother when Anu said excitedly, "Hey, I got my

mother a book of poems for Mother's Day. It cost me a lot of money though."

Just then, Somy, who was sitting nearby added,"1 got my mother a picture

frame. I saved all my pocket money to buy it." Priya felt bad. Everyone

seemed to be buying good things for their mothers but she had 'only a

handmade card to give her murn. If only she had some money!

\J\/hen she !Jot home, she went straiqht to her room and

shut the door. "Sh<:!took out the card and looked at it. She

had such a lovely mum who deserved the best but she

had nothinq to give her in return. After sometime her father

called her. He wanted to take her anci mum out for a treat

that evening to start the Mother's Day Celebrations. Soon

the three of them were in a restaurant having delicious dinner.

Priya pretended to be happy but her father noticed the sadness

in her eyes.

/\s soon as they were horne Priya's father took Priya to her room and asked

her what was bothering her. Priya started crying and told her father about the

card. When she showed it to him, he loved it. He said, "You've made a

--beautiful card for your mum. So why are you crying when you hav,e such a .. .

unique gift for her." Priya stili thouqhtthather card looked common and cheap.

Her father: told her that it was priceless as it was made with her own hands

and witha lot of love. He also said her mother would not judge Priya's love by

the cost of her I;!ift and mum also knew that Priya did not get any pocket

money.

Priya was relieved now. She could give her

mother the card after all. The next morning,

when she woke up, she went straight to her

mother anel huggied her as ShE!gaVE!her the

card. Her mother was delighted when she saw

the beautiful caret Now Priya was sure that her

Mother's Day gift was a very good one indeed.
