Semester syllabi for social sciences ready at DU The Faculty of Social Sciences at Delhi University (DU) on Friday cleared all the pending semester-based syllabi besides the history syllabus. The English department has also finally agreed to prepare the syllabus according to the semester system.

This means that the semester system is finally being implemented at the university this academic session. The semester-based syllabi for political science, geography, sociology and economics have been approved by the faculty of social sciences despite there being a quorum for the same during the meeting.

The department of history has requested the vice chancellor to bifurcate the syllabus under the semester system by invoking his special powers.

This is because the department will not be able to prepare the syllabus by the beginning of the new academic session as the process needs time, DU is not ready to introduce the semester system in its arts, commerce, mathematical science and social science streams.

The English department of the university had recently agreed to prepare the undergraduate Honors programme syllabus under the semester mode. However, the department will prepare only the syllabus for the first two semesters for the time being.

Delhi University Standing Committee on Academics has approved new revised syllabus for all undergraduate courses except one in B Sc chemical Sciences. It was sent back to the Department of Chemistry for modifications.

Delhi University is implementing Semester system in many undergraduate courses. The Revision of syllabus is part of this exercise. Many teachers are not happy with this move. They alleged that most of the syllabi were passed without following the process properly.
