CBA / ABATE of NC, Gaston County NC Chapter of the Year: 2007, 2010, 2012 & 2013 July 2015 Message from the President Hello to Everyone, here it is June already and man is it hot!!! Remember to drink plenty of water if you are out riding or outside working. Beer does not hydrate, only water does. You will dehydrate very quickly before you know it. So I urge you to keep water on hand during this heat wave we are going through. Hopefully it will break soon and cool off some. I want to thank everyone who braved the heat and participated in our Freedom Ride on the 13th. We had a great turnout and raised money for two great organizations, Biker Down Lifted Up and The Potters House. Potters House also provided our wonderful meal for the general meeting. The ride ended at the Homestead where a good time was had by all. Again thanks to all who participated. On another note, if you read the online version of the June newsletter, you noticed an article by Jill Stillwell. Her article is titled 'A Member's Opinion'. This article was very dir and to the point and hits the nail on the head. To everyone who can complain about the way things are run in our organization, you need to use that energy to step up and volunteer your help and your ideas so that together we can make the CBA an organization that we all are proud of being members of. I encourage everyone to read every word and take them to heart, because every word is true. To reinforce To what this article says, we need everyone's help to be the best we can be. Thanks for the article Jill. Well enough of me for now. Remember keep the shiny side up during your wind therapy. Thanks for your time. July 2015

Message from the President Hello to Everyone, here it is June already and man is it hot!!! Remember to drink

plenty of water if you are out riding or outside working. Beer does not hydrate, only

water does. You will dehydrate very quickly before you know it. So I urge you to keep

water on hand during this heat wave we are going through. Hopefully it will break

soon and cool off some.

I want to thank everyone who braved the heat and participated in our Freedom Ride on the 13th.

We had a great turnout and raised money for two great organizations, Biker Down Lifted Up and

The Potters House. Potters House also provided our wonderful meal for the general meeting. The ride

ended at the Homestead where a good time was had by all. Again thanks to all who participated.

On another note, if you read the online version of the June newsletter, you noticed an article by Jill

Stillwell. Her article is titled 'A Member's Opinion'. This article was very dir and to the point and hits

the nail on the head. To everyone who can complain about the way things are run in our organization,

you need to use that energy to step up and volunteer your help and your ideas so that together we can

make the CBA an organization that we all are proud of being members of. I encourage everyone to

read every word and take them to heart, because every word is true. To reinforce To what this article

says, we need everyone's help to be the best we can be. Thanks for the article Jill.

Well enough of me for now. Remember keep the shiny side up during your wind therapy. Thanks

for your time.

1st Vice President

Hello everyone, and Happy 4th of July to all! Enjoy your freedom and take a moment to

thank all those that are responsible for it.

Hog Happening was a HUGE success, thanks to all that helped with the CBA table and

the bike games. We may not of accomplished gaining alot of members, we did talk to lot's of

potential people on joining us. Got the word out about who we are and what our mission is. Made a little money for Hog Happening with our participations in the bike games and we sold quite a few

of our new shirts and all the yard signs we had on hand. The most part of it all beside being HOTTER than Haiti's, was we had fun, and

worked as a team to get it done. One of the funniest moments was when I started receiving calls that our GC CBA banner and pole was

coming down the main drag of Lincolnton...I was sent a picture of it..I couldn't help but laugh! You just had to be there and know the

whole story of why our banner was being carried from the other end of town square to where we were set up at. Great directions given is

why, HUH Magic Mike? The way I saw it was dedication in getting that banner to us. Thank you David Penley, Melissa Holder and the

kids for seeing to it that we got our banner. OH and not to mention I also had a complaint that the post and picture to MY face book page

was offensive.. BUT By no means was this in any way trying to make fun or make it appear to be a cross or disrespectful...it was just Gas-

ton Co.CBA banner simply being carried down the street at Hog Happening.

Our Freedom/Fund Run was a huge success. Recipient's were Biker Down Lifted Up Foothills Chapter and the Potter's House received

approximately $500.00 each. Thank you all that came out to support these two great organizations. If you worked a stop, helped at the

Homestead, got a door prize or anything to of helped in anyway, it was and as always very much appreciated. A shout out to new member Chris Shope, for cooking those Boston butts. Food was great. And Mischa, for always taking care of us on the deserts.

Another great mention that just show's the character of member's and friends that we have~ was the donation that was raised for my

good friend, Mollie Arndt that is fighting ovarian cancer. Their is a weekend rally and poker run planned by some of her closest friends

July 31-Aug.2nd. Check for flier on the Area Event's for Motorcycle Rider's Facebook page, where anyone can post their events. I hope to

see some of us their to show her some much needed love and support.

Another Western District event is in the works for Sept .12th to help promote biker awareness at the Geneva Riverside motel (which by

the way if you are a CBA member you will get reduced rates to stay in Lake Lure for "Birdman" Steve Melton that was killed in a motor-

cycle accident in Spartanburg, SC. on Valentine's Day. A poker run, music and more are being planned. Monies raised will benefit's Ste-

ve's family. Gaston will have a vendor spot there with our products and membership's available.. stay tuned for more information on this.

If your interested in participating in the ride up contact Magic Mike or myself or Lori Scruggs for helping with our table.

Please join me in congratulating our new CBA product's person Lori Scruggs. We appreciate her accepting this position, and if you have any suggestions or comment's about products please see her.

If you visit one of our sponsors, please let them know that you are a CBA member. Unless you are wearing your vest, the sponsors do

not always know that you are a CBA member. They support us so we need to make sure that we support them as well. Remember that we

have business cards that can be left with the sponsors when you visit them. They are at the Homestead. Just ask for some when you are

there. Please save your receipts when visiting Sponsors for a surprise in the fall. Keep watching the newsletter for more information.

Don't forget out State CBA meeting is July 18th and 19th at the Dance Hall Daze in Kernersville NC. If you haven't been to a State

meeting it's time to join in and learn more of what we do.. Thanks!

Yall ride safe ya here~

Ok Folks… Please Pay Attention…. If your name appears in RED… You are either over your 61 day grace period

for remaining a current member or on the verge of being in that category. We strive to retain members and wish for

support of all! This organization is all about the rights of bikers in the entire state, not just our county. But we can not

make changes without continual support of our members!!! In my opinion the extra life insurance is a blessing in its

self. Too many have been involved in accidents with nothing there to assist …. I know we don’t want to think about

it… but we are all only human… and it could happen to ANYONE!!!!

As of July 1st state fund-ing for the Driver’s Education program in the school system will end. Please contact state legislators regarding this situation. Funding for two years has been approved by state legislators but this doesn’t address long-term funding. Robert stated that the tri-fold brochures for MSAP that can be placed at churches and other locations for parents and teens is printed. A generic tri-fold brochure with Jeff Reif’s name will be done for the Steve Melton (Bird) Poker Run in the fall because riders from all over the state will be there. Other areas are very interested in the MSAP program and York County will be paying approximately $3000 for a new MSAP DVD to be made. Members would have to have 5 paid years of membership and then could pay for life-time membership. The third proposed change will allow the Executive Council (all officers at the state meetings) to make By-Law changes without having the members vote on them. This is to help improve the process for making constitutional chang-es when By-Law changes may be necessary for constitutional changes to also take place.

Gabby asked for donations for Mollie Arndt as part of a fundraiser for her for medical expenses. $110 was raised. The

following will be on the shirts for this fundraiser: Gaston County CBA members and friends

Motion was made and passed to make a $100 donation for the “Jace Man Run” in August.

Julie Head, Lori Scruggs, Tina Long and Karen Slininger volunteered to look through old newsletters for any motions that

were passed and to look at the by-laws of other chapters and groups to start developing some for our chapter.

Melissa Holder resigned as CBA Events Coordinator. Rhonda Ham volunteered to take over until Melissa is ready to

come back.

Collect as many receipts as possible from as many differ-

ent sponsors as possible from now until the September gen-eral meeting. There is a surprise for that evening. Older newsletters had $50 quarterly ads available. This will be discussed at the next officer’s meeting.

Motion to Adjourn – Made and Passed Closing Prayer – Lewis Cox Respectfully submitted, Donna Barnett, Secretary

Attention

Members!

Collect receipts

from as many

sponsors as

you can for

something

Special in the

Fall!!!

Notice to ALL CBA Members!!!

We have had a dramatic drop in the participation of

members for events at the Gaston County Home-

stead. This is the home of the Gaston County CBA.

although it is a separate entity of the CBA. In order

to continue with the Homestead, we need everyone,

members or not to come down and enjoy what we

have to offer and support what is going on. Without

y’alls support the Homestead may not exist for the

CBA members meetings much longer!!! That would

be SAD, but a seriously true fact!
