As I write this newsletter to- day, I am excited because every single one of our stu- dents is at school! Thank you parents for supporting your childrens education by get- ting them here. You may have noticed that students have not come home with our GRIP awards this year. There are two rea- sons for this. Firstly, we have changed our school expectations to Ready, Respectful, Safe and so an update was needed to our awards. Secondly, as a staff, we no- ticed that the certificates we were handing out had lost their value for many stu- dents. We want to be able to share with parents when their chil- dren go over and above and ensure that we always posi- tively recognise student ef- fort, service and achieve- ment. Book Club orders for Issue 1 are due back by Wednes-day, 17 February.

When crossing the road please use our Crossing !!!

CLASSROOM MUSIC

Welcome back everyone to another great year of music at Grantham State School.

I am looking forward to working in classes and with the Choir at this great School, and look forward to developing the skills of your children.

I would ask you to take note of a couple of points for families as we start the year:-

CHOIRS: Signup for the choir occurred last week with an Agreement letter sent home to be signed and returned, and the choir will start rehearsing in this week, with very good numbers anticipated for the year’s work.

All children interested in singing are invited to become part of the Choral program, and audi-tions are not held. Children from Grades 3 –6 are invited to sign up and enjoy the excitement of singing together.

I would normally be confirming all performance dates at this point in time, but due to the uncer-tainty of the COVID-19 restrictions and how this will further impact on our choir performances, I am unable to do so at this stage. When and if this changes, I will advise you in due course.

A display folder is required for music / lyrics for practicing, and a sharp pencil is to be brought along too, please.

RECORDERS:

ALL students in Grades 3– 6 will be having recorder lessons with me in line with Education Queensland’s Classroom Music Curriculum, and ALL are expected to arrive for class lessons with their named recorder in the class basket.

If your child will be starting the year without one, I would ask for a note to come to the Office to let us know when this will be rectified.

Thank you for noting these.

Brett Gredig.

Classroom Specialist and Choir Conductor.

INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC Instrumental Music lessons are being held on Mondays this year and lessons commenced on Monday, 15 February.

Please note– if you are providing your own instrument, the annual base cost is $55.00. If you are borrowing an instrument from the school, the annual cost is $164.00, which in-cludes the $55.00 base cost.

Participating students should have received their instruments this week. Please remem-ber to bring your instrument to school EVERY MONDAY.

Prep – Year 2 Amaroo Environmental Education Centre Excursion

Wow! What an adventure we had on Friday! Cam and Mr Dave (the educators from AEEC) were great. We had a bush walk and we saw tracks from animals. We found out how indige-nous peoples used bark and trees for different things in their life, and we did craft and dance. We sat in yarning circles and wrote in our books from our pockets (imaginary) to remember all the things we learned.
