Strike Slip Fault

A strike-slip is formed when plates scrape past each other. An example is the San Andreas Fault. When a strike-slip is happening it builds up a lot of friction. If there is enough friction the two blocks will lock together. When they are locked, the plates build up potential energy. When they disconnect, the potential turns into kinetic energy. There are many changes in the rock well under where the fault happened.
