• France claimed Louisiana to Great Lakes

• British and French declared war over disputed territory in the Ohio valley area

• Indians sided with the French because they thought the British would take over their land

and claims all land East of Mississippi river

• France gave up all land in the North American colonies. {no more threat from Spain in Florida}

• Treaty ended French power in North America

• Britain felt colonist should pay for security

• King issues a proclamation stating:

• Treaty of Augusta- Governor Wright negotiated with the Creek and Tripled the size of Georgia

The Tea Act and Tea Parties

• Parliament repeals all Acts except tax on tea

• Because East India Tea company was going bankrupt

• Sent tea directly to colonies, 3 pence per pound tax collected when delivered

• Tea was cheaper than before

• In 1774 delegates pass a series of resolutions– Boycotting all trade

• British sent 700 troops to arrest John Hancock and Samuel Adams in Lexington

• Paul Revere, William Dawes and Samuel Prescott signaled to warn Boston British were coming
