A young boy of 12 years cannot think of living beyond histeens he has a defective heart valve and althoughtreatment is available by which his life line can be

    expanded to normal span.

His fault is that he is born in a poor family.

His parents have been running from pillar to post to collect

the funds but still cannot come anywhere near theminimum cost required for congenital cardiac correctivesurgery.

They give up and with darkness in life await the inevitable.

Can we allow this to ha en?Can we allow this to ha en?

In 1998 Rotary Club Chandigarh began a project called The Gift of Life

Till 2004, with donations received, they had carried out major heartsurgeries on 100 Under-Privileged children

It took 6 years to conduct the first 100 surgeries

At this time, this Centennial Project was renamed HeartLine and they

have saved a total of 209 lives thus far

It took 4 years to conduct the next 100 surgeries

Medical consumables required for each surgery cost Rs.65,000

Chandigarh Rotary Club meets the cost of surgeries by raising

voluntary donations through its members. They get no grants

PGI Chd. and Fortis Mohali are partners in the project

Each surgery requires 6 units of blood

Most of the patients are from far flung towns, near impossibletask for their families to arrange donors in a strange city
