Extended Solutions for Fabrication and Assembly

With Release 5, the solution for the machinery, industrialcomponent, and tooling industries is extended again. Thenew Sheetmetal Production 2 product providessheetmetal process coverage from design tomanufacturing. It introduces seamless e-communicationbetween OEMs and suppliers and increases CATIAVersion 5′s flexibility in supporting a wide variety ofdesign methodologies, complex shapes, and fabricationprocesses.

Release 5 also introduces industry-leading, 3D functionaltolerancing and annotation technology. It represents amajor step towards comprehensive 3D product definition, paperless manufacturing, and e-communication.

In general, Release 5 brings significant functional andproductivity enhancements in the most common designertasks, such as drafting, structure and tooling design, assembly, and welding definition.

An End-to-End Process Solution for Mold and Die

Ease of use, advanced simulation capabilities, easychange propagation for better communication betweenthe shop floor and the design office, and integration ofmanufacturing data in the product definition remain thefundamentals of CATIA Version 5 manufacturing portfolio.

Release 5 delivers a new end-to-end solution for moldand die makers to help them optimize their business. Thenew Mold Tooling Design 2 product provides mold and diemakers with productivity gains in the definition of moldtooling features (clamps and injectors), thanks to the useof predefined components from standard catalogs orin-house designs. This product, when associated with thepower of the rest of CATIA Version 5′s mechanical designsolutions, can be profitably combined with the newassociative 3 Axis Surface Machining product and with theimproved Prismatic Machining product for downstreamNC machining.

Robust Hybrid Modeling

Release 5 reinforces CATIA Version 5′s leadership inhybrid modeling technology. By combining the best ofsolid and surface modeling techniques, it provides

designers with more versatile methodologies, betteraccuracy, easier control over the resulting shapes, andthe ability to create ever more complex parts, such asconsumer goods, automotive powertrain components, andaerospace lofting surfaces.

Another key differentiator of the CATIA Version 5 coremodeler is its generative and associative meshingcapability. Technical Information

Hardware Requirements

Common Hardware Requirements

The following requirements are common to all operatingsystems supported by this release. System unit andgraphic adapter requirements are platform specific andare detailed in subsequent topics.

• Required Components and Features

− Disk drive: An internal or external disk drive(minimum recommended size is 2 GB) is requiredto store program executables, program data, theuser environment, and to provide paging space.

− Memory: 256 MB of RAM is the minimumrecommended for all applications. 512 MB of RAMis recommended for DMU applications on largeassemblies and for the Digitized Shape Editor 2product. Requirements may be greater when largeamounts of data are used.

− Internal/external drives: A CD-ROM drive isrequired for program installation and for access tothe online documentation, which can optionally bedownloaded to disk.

− Display: A graphic color display compatible withthe selected platform-specific graphic adapter. Theminimum recommended size for usability reasonsis 17 inches. Minimum resolution for Windowsworkstations is 800 x 600 and 1280 x 1024 forUNIX workstations. When selecting a graphicadapter, hardware texturing capability is stronglyrecommended when using CATIA Version 5products that use texture mapping, in which casethe amount of texture RAM has to be adequate forthe number and complexity of textures to be used.

− Keyboard: A specific keyboard compatible with theselected installation locale may be required fornational language support.

− Pointing device: Three-button mouse. On Windowsworkstations, a two-button mouse may alternativelybe used (the third button is emulated with akeyboard sequence). The three-button mouse isrecommended for usability reasons. IntelliMouse(two buttons plus a wheel instead of the thirdbutton) is an alternative to the three-button mouseon Windows workstations. The wheel acts as themiddle button to allow additional manipulations, such as panning and scrolling.

• Optional Components and Features

For CATIA P2, SpaceBall or SpaceMouse, in additionto the standard mouse, can be used to perform graphicmanipulations (zoom, pan, rotate). The requireddrivers are delivered with these devices. Support ofthese devices is also available with the DMUNavigator 1 (DN1) and DMU Space Analysis (SP1) P1Add-on products.

The robustness of the overall solution is dependent on therobustness of the operating system and the hardwareenvironment used. Hardware configurations certified byDassault Systemes for running CATIA products arepublished at:

Ordering Examples

It is a licensing requirement that each unique customconfiguration is assigned a unique SW serial number. Toprovide a unique serial for each custom configuration, aninstall record has to be created for each unique customconfiguration. If the customer orders a standardconfiguration with no add-on products, an install recordwith a serial number would be created (Example 1). Theorder for 10 custom configurations in Example 3 wouldcreate a new install record and serial number, and so on.

Each of the install records requiring a new SW serial willstart at Tier 1 ALC charges and be priced according toquantities ordered for that unique custom configuration. In Example 3, with a quantity of 10, the customer wouldbe eligible for Tier 1 pricing on nine seats and Tier 2pricing on the tenth seat.

It is, therefore, very important to understand thecustomer′s intentions when initial orders for customconfigurations are placed. To remove users from anexisting configuration to create a new customer installrecord could cause PLC/ALC billing issues as illustratedin Example 6.

Example 1 — Order for a Standard Configuration: Acustomer wishing to order the CATIA Version 5Sheetmetal Design 2 Configuration (5691-SD2) with 12users on the AIX platform would order the following:

Select 5691-SD2

9001 Qty 1 Asset Registration5350 Qty 12 AIX Platform0011 Qty 12 SD2 Config PLC0006 Qty 9 ALC User 1-90007 Qty 3 ALC User 10-25

Note: The configurator will automatically include the SPO5628-ACN with the 3410 media feature number.

The customer now has a quantity of 42 PLC and 42 ALCon the AIX and Sun Solaris platforms.

Example 3 — Order for a Custom Configuration: Thecustomer wishes to order 10 custom configurationsconsisting of the Mold & Die Machinist 2 Configuration(5691-MO2) with Mold Tooling Design 2 (MTD) and 3DFunctional Tolerancing & Annotation 2 (FTA) Add-OnProducts on the AIX platform.

System Program Order

5628-ACN System Program Order

CATIA Version 5 programs for all platforms (UNIX andMicrosoft Windows) will be shipped under the 5628-ACNSystem Program Order (SPO). The SPO is required forall program shipments and future updates.

Initial orders placed for a program type 5691 without acorresponding order or MES for the 5628-ACN SPO willeither fail order validation, or will not generate a mediashipment. The SPO is designated to the processor onwhich the program type 5691 is licensed. Each customernumber must have its own SPO.

Initial Orders: When ordering the first 5691-xxxconfiguration for CATIA Version 5, an order must also beplaced for the 5628-ACN SPO. Both the 5691-xxx programorder and the SPO must be for the same CPU systemtype/system number, and have the same scheduledshipment date.

Subsequent Licenses: The SPO must have a featurenumber for every CATIA Version 5 configuration that isinstalled or on-order. Therefore, when a configurationthat was not previously installed is ordered, the SPO mustbe updated.

To Update an On-order System: When a license for a new5691 program is ordered for an on-order system, the5628-ACN SPO must be updated to reflect the featurenumber of the licensed program desired. Also, for assetregistration and billing purposes an order for theindividual licensed program type 5691 is required.

To Update an Installed System: When a license for a new5691 program is ordered for an installed system, the5628-ACN SPO must be updated to reflect the featurenumber of the licensed program desired.

5628-ACN Feature Numbers: The following no-chargeprogram feature numbers are used with the 5628-ACNSystem Program Order to show which configurations andproducts are installed. This information is used forshipment of media. The maximum quantity of each of thefeatures that may be specified is one for each of the 5691programs.

The Licensing Mechanism

CATIA Version 5 Licensing on Workstations: Inworkstation environments, CATIA controls the number ofconcurrent users of a CATIA configuration or product, according to the number of licenses acquired for theconfiguration or product.

CATIA Version 5 delivers identical licensing mechanismson UNIX and Windows NT environments, based on IBMLUM. The following licensing principles apply:

• A CATIA Version 5 configuration (standard or custom)will require a license. Licenses for CATIA Version 5configurations are acquired and released for the totalconfiguration. The products within a configurationcannot be shared.

• CATIA Version 5 shareable products will require alicense, in addition to one for the prerequisiteconfiguration and any prerequisite product, ifapplicable.

• In all cases, licenses are acquired at the beginning ofthe process and are released at its termination.

CATIA Version 5 can be used in two licensing modes, either nodelock or with concurrent usage of licenses ona network.

Nodelock Usage: The use of local display of the hardwareconfiguration is mandatory for CATIA Version 5 usage innodelock mode. There is no limit to the number of CATIAVersion 5 processes launched for a given license(configuration or product). For instance, a user canlaunch the following simultaneous processes:

• A Version 5 interactive session• A Version 5 process executed through an OLE

container application• Replay of macros recorded from captured sequences

of Version 5 user interactions

In nodelock mode of operation, only one CATIA licenseper configuration and product can be registered bymachine, and only one CATIA user can run at a time. Ifyou want multiple licenses per configuration or product,or multiple users, refer to the Concurrent Usage section.

Concurrent Usage: A user on one machine on one displayuses one license per configuration or product used, regardless of the number of processes. If the displaychanges, then an additional license is taken for thecorresponding process.

CATIA add-on and shareable products require a licensefor a configuration, which includes at least theprerequisite products.

Licenses for CATIA configurations are acquired andreleased for the total configuration. The functions withina configuration cannot be shared.
