OINK, OINK!Thank you for another wonderful All Saints celebration of National Pig Day! We had over 200 pigs race (below are some of the fun names of the pigs), and around 400 beef or turkey hotdogs sold! All the proceeds will be donated to the Heifer Foundation. You can learn more about this wonderful foundation at http://www.heiferfoundation.org/. We will share the final amount raised in the next Patriot Passages, but it is well over $800. Thank you for your support and a fun day!

ALL SAINTS CHESS CLUBAll Saints hosted its first Check with Tech chess tournament on March 3. Over 100 K-12 players represented schools throughout the Lubbock area, as well as schools from Smyer, Plainview, Olton, Bovina, and several home school associations. Orga-nized by the Texas Tech Chess Club, it was a great tournament . Many folks were complimentary of our school facilities! The All Saints Chess Club, represented by Middle Schoolers Jess Gaines, Hayden Hillin, Paden Keith, Ethan Min, and Mahmoud Sabouni earned several honors this weekend – 3rd place K-5 Rated and 2nd place K-12 Rated. Congratulations, and Go All Saints! The Chess Club would like to thank Ms. Frullo, Mr. Collins, Mrs. Taylor, Coach Brashear, Buck Maples, Fidel Castrejon, and the custodial crew for all of their help and support in host-ing our first tournament. Thank you also to Profe Bray, Mrs. Montoya, and the students who volunteered to set up, work con-cessions, and clean up!

REGION 16 MIDDLE SCHOOL SOLO AND ENSEMBLE COMPETITIONThe All Saints Orchestra students recently competed in the Region 16 Middle School Solo & Ensemble Competi-tion. This is the first year that All Saints has EVER been allowed to compete in this competition. The invitation to compete was given in late January, which gave our orchestra students only one month to prepare. The students that competed showed their determination and dedication. Students practiced during lunch, after school, and at home. This was surely a test of their will to succeed. There were some tears of frustration along the way, but these kids persevered! Eight students participated in the competition, and no one got below an excellent rating! The following students received a “superior” rating:

Noah Herrera - 5th gradeEthan Min - 5th gradeJoshua Eckert - 6th gradeAudrey Smith - 6th gradeMadison Roberts - 7th gradeMia Garza - 8th gradeHarrison Hensley - 8th gradeAvery Wisniewski - 8th grade

Brynlee Bain and Avery Wisniewski both submitted second solos and received a rating of “Excellent”. Congratula-tions to all of these students! In addition, many thanks to Business Manager Dana McNeice who accompanied some of the students.
