“He must increase, I must decrease” John 3:30 Make Room for Jesus

Dear Sacred Heart Families,

Who would have thought talking about jelly beans during a Mass homily would spark good conversation about Je-sus! It happened this week. Fr. Dan held up a container of “beanboozeled” jellybeans. The majority of the stu-dents knew exactly what was in the container-jellybeans that look the same on the outside, but don’t taste the same-some disgusting, like moldy cheese and rotten eggs.

His point was simple, yet memorable. When we “Make room for Jesus” there is no room for judging others. The outside appearance of a person doesn’t tell the full story. After Mass, Fr. Dan had the students and teachers try out the jelly beans. I heard about it for (2) days-booger beans are bad, cherry ones are good! Then, I would ask, “What does this have to do with Jesus?” “Don’t judge others!” I heard this answer over and over again.

Fr. Pat has also broken down our school theme during his homilies. He had students make a list of (3) simple goals they had this year to make room for Jesus. Students came up with achievable ideas; give up technology one night, keep a prayer journal, help with chores without being asked, sit by someone new at lunch, read a book about a Saint, include others at recess, find time to pray for 5 minutes a day in silence, thank my teacher often…and so many more!

It doesn’t take heroic acts to have a friendship with Jesus. We will continue to impress upon our students this truth. Making room for Jesus can happen in simple words and actions, recognizing God in all situations. It would be inspirational to our staff for you to share how your family makes room for Jesus.

Won’t you consider emailing me with a story about what this looks like for you? We are encouraged by your witness…please share!

Brown Bottle Gift BasketsParents, it is that time of year again for the planning of Sacred Heart’s biggest fundraiser, the Brown Bottle Din-ner and Auction, which will be held on Saturday, November 11, 2017. The gift baskets have been a huge success in the past thanks to all of your donations. Our goal again this year is to make the baskets even bigger and better. Each grade level has been assigned a theme. You are invited to purchase items (big or small) based on your child’s grade level/theme.

• Kindergarten – Boys and/or girls Legos• First Grade – Boys and/or girls sleepover• Second Grade – Family fun or movie (no R rated movies) night• Third Grade – Christmas • Fourth Grade – KU and/or K-State• Fifth Grade – Gift cards (Any amount to any place.)• Sixth Grade – KC Sports (Chiefs, Sporting KC, Royals)• Seventh Grade – KC Royals• Eighth Grade – Monetary donations for “Girls Just Want to Have Fun”. This basket is new this year. It will have a variety of highly desirable items such as Kendra Scott, Vera Bradley, Vineyard Vines, Sepho ra, Starbucks, etc.

If you do not have time to shop, we can do the shopping for you. Please send your monetary donations (checks made out to Sacred Heart) in an envelope marked with your child’s name and grade level. All donations must be received by October 27, 2017, or the donated items will not be included in the gift baskets.

The gift baskets will be on display beginning October 30, 2017 and all students will have the opportunity to purchase raffle tickets beginning November 1, 2017. The tickets will be $1 each or 25 tickets for $20. More in-formation, along with the ticket order form, will be sent at a later date. If you have any questions, please contact, Kim Dreiling at [email protected], Andrea Meidinger at [email protected] or Brittni Jakuboski at [email protected]. Thank you so much for your time and donations.

Faith FamilesThe Name Game, an emoji ball toss, and some dice rolling were only a few ways faith families began on Thursday. Using these tools, families discussed Jesus, our school theme as well as how we can grow

closer with God.
