29tth Sunday in Ordinary Time
In today’s readings we are encouraged to persevere in pray-er—not because God needs our prayer, but because we do! In prayer we recognize our dependence upon God and that God brings us into relationship with each other. Prayer draws us out of ourselves and helps us to be mindful of the needs of others. For whom do we need to pray today? Who is the brother or sister of the Lord whose needs are hidden from us? On this Mission Sunday, we can pray especially for the Church’s missionary work, especially among the poor and forgotten.
Next Enchilada Dinner Meeting: Tues., October 22, 2019 The day of the Enchilada Dinner is getting close. Anyone who is running one of the booths, should attend as final plans need to be discussed. Everyone is invited to attend this meeting. It is not too late to get involved. *************************************************** Silent Auction Lucinda Murphy will be chairing the Silent Auction Booth. Watch the bulletin for further details or contact Lucinda at (210) 842-8337. Live Auction A volunteer or volunteers are still needed to chair the live auction. To volunteer or if you have any questions or for more information contact the Fundraiser Chairman, Del Orozco at (713) 703-7614. Raffle All 100 tickets have been sold! Will you be one of the lucky winners? Drinks Besides serving tea with the meal, we will once again be selling canned drinks and bottled water. Soon we will send out a list of the kinds of sodas/water we will be asking for. Kitchen/Desserts Sign-Up Sheets Volunteers will be needed in the Kitchen to help with meal preparation, working the counter and making desserts (cakes, pies, cookies, cobbler, etc.) to serve with the meal. Del Orozco, Janet Zapalac, Patsy Stavinoha, and Lucy Hodges will be coor-dinating this. Sign up sheets can be found on the bulletin board in the entryway to the church. Country Store Sign-up Sheet The Country Store will be a little different this year. We will be accepting new and like-new items such as pictures, Knick Knacks and other household items. This is not a garage sale and no clothes will be accepted. All handmade bird houses, jewelry, etc. are needed. All sewed, knitted, crochet and embroidery items are needed. Anything homemade will be appreciated. Plants and canned pickles, jellies, etc. are good sellers. You can bring them to me at church or I’ll pick them up. You can also drop them off at the office. Volunteers are needed to help with pricing and setting up the booth. For questions or information, call Peggy at (979) 450-2480. Monetary Donations Monetary Donations are always welcome and can be placed in an envelope and dropped in the collection basket at any Mass or mailed directly to the office (P.O. Box 99). Please note on the envelope if you want your donation to be applied to the meal, raffle, or auction to help defray the costs. How can I help? Besides chairing a booth, help will be needed to set up before, clean up after, work in the kitchen, sell raffle tickets, or help to put up posters in and around Somerville to let the community know about the Enchilada Dinner. Please contact Del Orozco, (713) 703-7614 for questions or for more information.
