Reflecting on God’s Word

’Tis the season for bell choirs and brass renditions of beloved carols. Church musicians are rounding up trumpeters and French horn players to rehearse for Christmas liturgies. What would a Christmas television special be without pealing bells in the closing sequence? The joyful sounds of brass instruments herald the good news that the Lord of the universe has entered into human history once and forever in the poor infant Jesus. There is another kind of bell that seems to follow us wherever we go at this time of year—the Salvation Army bells. They remind us that not everyone has experienced the good news of salvation yet. There are many who suffer while others wallow in abundance.

—Virginia Stillwell Derechos de autor © 2012, World Library Publications. Todos los derechos reservados.

OPLATKI (CHRISTMAS WAFERS)

Many American families of Polish and Lithuanian descent keep alive this Christmas custom. The Christmas Eve dinner is highlighted by the breaking of the blessed oplatki (resembling Communion wafers) and exchanging best wishes and love. Oplatki is available in the sacristy on weekends and at the Parish Office during the week. Donation for a pack of three wafers is $3.

From our Seminarian:

Dear brother Knights:

From the bottom of my heart, I would like to thank you all for your generous donation. Your contribution makes it possible for me to continue forward with my academic, pastoral, intellectual and vocational aspirations, and with the Grace of the Almighty Father, be ordained as a Priest for the service of this Archdiocese of Chicago.

In the present time, your contributions, will allow me to alleviate the expenses (cost) of my tuition and books. This is only possible because of thoughtful contributions from people and organizations like you.

I would also like to ask you to please pray for an increase in vocations to the Priesthood and religious life, but most especially, I ask you to pray for me, so that God can guide me through the right paths. Remembering you all that you’ll be in my prayers. I am sincerely yours in Christ,

Seminarian Victor Hugo Andrade

Buckets of Hope for Hurricane Sandy Victims

We all saw it on the news. We all watched with horror as homes were completely washed away. We all wondered

what we could do to help.

The Diaconate Community of the Archdiocese of Chicago has created BUCKETS OF HOPE. Each Bucket will be

filled with cleaning supplies, and through the generosity of a moving company, being taken to the hardest hit areas.

The buckets will be distributed to help people clean up their homes, and get their lives back in order.

St. Ansgar will be a donation site through Christmas Day. So, this Christmas, why not give someone a little hope,

and help fill a bucket. Only the specific items on the list can be used, so please be sure to follow the instructions.
