MSSION ~ We are a welcoming Catholic community, making God visible through the sacraments, faith formation and service.

  • THE ETERNAL GOD. King David wished that the ark of God might have a more permanent home. David may have envisioned something like the cedar palace where he resided. God had in mind something more: a throne where David’s descendants would rule for ever, a kingdom where Jews and Gentiles alike would be welcome. Mary’s prayerful nature led to an even more disturbing message. She would

conceive and bear a Son though she was not yet married. “How can this come about?” Mary wondered. “The Holy Spirit will come upon you,” she was told (Luke 1:35). Mary’s acceptance of this difficult challenge ushered in this, the final age of God’s reign. What was once a secret known only by chosen people like King David and his descendants must now be made clear to all so that, as Saint Paul wrote to the Romans, we can be brought to the “obedience of faith” “according to the command of the eternal God” (Romans 16:26)

The Vigil Mass on Saturday is offered for the repose of the soul of Eleanor Theresa Kane, Karen McDonnell’s mother. The Mass at 8:00 a.m. is offered for the repose of the soul of

Sigmunt Bauer, at the request of Tom & Ursula Callan. The Mass at 10:30 a.m. is offered in loving memory of Marge Gagnon, at the request of Marion & Carl Rosenthal. The Sunday Evening Mass at 5:00 p.m. is offered as a Missa Pro Populo (Mass for the People).

We hear a knock at the door. A homeless woman stands, asking how to sign up for the Clothes Closet. The Clothing Closet is open Tuesday mornings, this is Thursday. Sister gently tells the woman there is no need to sign up, just come on Tuesday mornings. By the way, you can probably get a sandwich, a bag of chips and a drink… The lady tells Sister that she is just

looking for some shoes. What she has on her feet are thin-soled and light weight, not very warm in the winter weather. Sister brings her inside. Then the lady tells us she needs two pairs of pants, please. Her pants were stolen at the homeless shelter, and she only has what she has on. Sister nods and goes to get some sneakers, and see what pants she might have. Most homeless people walk 5 to 10 miles a day. If they find somewhere warm to sleep at night, they are shooed out in the morning with nowhere to go. So they walk and walk. Sneakers and shoes are badly needed. And there is a constant need for men’s and women’s underwear. In these days of Advent, can you give up a Starbuck’s coffee, or maybe a fast food meal, and buy a package of underwear (large sizes, please, not white), or socks. Let’s help out Catholic Chari es of the Midlands with all the good work they do. Please. For Jesus… At Christmas me…

And this from Deacon Ron Anderson, re red and former Regional Coordinator of Catholic Chari es of the Midlands: “It was a day just like any other at Catholic Chari es un l I heard a knock on the door. On the other side of the door was a husband and wife. They had been living in their car, but a er being car jacked at a gas sta on, they were le with only the clothes they had on their backs. The husband requested a pair of pants and a dress shirt for a job interview the next day. He then, with a very mid voice, asked for a blouse for his wife. They were very happy to receive clean clothing. The next day, I received a phone call that he did get the job! Thank you to all who donate their gently used and new clothing to our clothing closet. You provided more than just clothing for this couple."

Merry Christmas! Keep the Christ in

    Christmas

Flowers for the Altar Flowers on the altar this weekend were provided by Pete & Anne Pillow in honor of their granddaughter, Charlotte, as she celebrates her 6th Birthday; and, by Carla & Bob Sharpley in loving memory of

    Carl Eckenrod.

Christmas Poinsettias can still be ordered for our Altar this Christmas Season until next Sunday, December 20. Forms can be found as an Insert this weekend. You may use the envelope marked “Poinsettia Donation” that can be found on the

table or in your monthly packet of offertory envelopes. These can be placed in the Collection Basket, given to any Usher or brought to the Parish Office. A list of Memorials/Honorees will be included as a Bulletin Insert.. Many thanks for helping to adorn our altar for the Holy Season!

may be placed in the Offertory Collection Basket

As we near the end of the calendar year, now is the time when many people consider their year end giving for tax purposes. Please remember the church when you review your giving for the year.

This is also a good time to prayerfully review your current level of giving and to consider increasing your weekly gift to the church, especially if you not made any adjustments for several years. Perhaps now is the time to consider increasing your giving?

Lighthouse Catholic Ministry God Becomes Man!

In this inspiring talk, renowned preacher and retreat master Fr. Larry Richards illuminates how the true joy of Christmas is found in the greatest gift ever given – the gift of Jesus Christ to the whole world. With humor, compassion, and clarity, Fr. Larry walks us

He gets to the heart of the true meaning of Christmas and helps us to better understand the immensity of God's love for us as His children.
