The next meeting will be June 6th.
First Reading: Today’s First Reading from Acts of the Apostles recounts the death of Stephen, the first martyr in the Church. It is an interesting choice for this second to last Sunday of Easter Time. Perhaps Stephen’s vision of God’s glory promoted its choice since Jesus prays in today’s Gospel that his followers will see the glory which the Father has given him. This is precisely what Stephen sees in his vi-
sion. Stephen's death and Jesus’ reception of his spirit, marks the completion of his journey to his heavenly home. So it will be for us. Second Reading: The verses chosen for today’s reading come from the end of Revelation, a book filled with descrip-tions of heaven and of the rewards given to those who are judged righteous after their death. Note the names given to Jesus, especially Alpha and Omega: these very words are used in the preparation of the Paschal candle at the Easter Vigil. Note also the prominence of the word “come.” Jesus promises to come soon. The Church prays, “come, Lord Jesus.” How deep is our longing, our prayer, for his coming? Gospel: Today’s Gospel is set in the context of Jesus’ last words to his disciples the night before he died. Here Jesus is speaking not only to the dis-ciples, but to the heavenly Father. In his prayer,
Jesus asks that his followers be united as one, more specifically, as he and the Father are one. The unity of his followers will give witness to the world that the Jesus in whom they believe, and whose teachings they follow, was indeed sent by the Father. The unity of the Father and the Son, the love between the Father and the Son– this is the same unity and love that Jesus prays will be the experience and the witness of all who believe in him.

Each year's Cathedral Classic includes auc-tions for items such as gift cards/certificates to businesses such as restaurants, theaters and specialty stores. The profits from the Classic help in funding the Cathedral's ongoing restora-tion. One way you can assist with the Restora-tion is by donating items for the Classic auctions or soliciting donations for items from businesses which you patronize. A solicitation letter from Fr. LeFort is available from the Rectory, along with a brochure describing the Classic and ex-plaining sponsorship opportunities. Please deliv-er all auction items to the Rectory by Thursday June 14th. If you have any questions, you can contact the Classic Chair, Jim Horan, at [email protected]

Re-Igniting Our Faith
As followers of Jesus Christ, we are
called to be gifted, grateful, and gen-
erous stewards of the many blessings
which God has bestowed upon us
and to pass those blessings on to future generations
so that they too will come to know the Lord. Re-
Igniting Our Faith, an historic campaign, offers our
parish community a powerful opportunity to
leave a lasting legacy for the Catholic Church in the
City of Albany.
Through your generosity, and with the guidance of
the Holy Spirit, we will make many long-held
dreams a reality here at the Cathedral of the Immac-
ulate Conception by erecting a sign of who and how
we are, by acquiring and installing a proper confes-
sional, by updating our newly-formed house of for-
mation for future diocesan priests, and by establish-
ing a much needed street ministry to so many of our
neighbors, homebound parishioners and friends.
Through the Re-Igniting Our Faith campaign, we
will also carry Christ’s message beyond our parish
walls. In response to our Bishop’s call to enact trans-
formational change in Albany through the hands of
Christ, a portion of the funds raised through Re-
Igniting Our Faith will help to meet the urgent
needs of our larger community.
I ask that you pray daily for the success of our cam-
paign. Thank you.
