The Chrism Mass will be held on Tuesday, April 16th at
11:00 AM here at the Cathedral of Saint Joseph. At this
special Mass, celebrated by Bishop Coyne, the Oil of
Chrism is consecrated; the Oils of Catechumens and the
Sick are blessed, and the priests within the Diocese of
Burlington recommit themselves to the Priesthood of
Jesus Christ. All are invited to join in celebrating this
special Mass.
HOLY THURSDAY FOOD COLLECTION
Throughout Holy Week, we celebrate and remember Jesus’
many acts of giving—the sharing of His Body and Blood at
the Last Supper, his service and example to His disciples in
the washing of feet, the giving of His own life out of love
for all humanity.
During the Mass on Holy Thursday Evening (April 18th at
7:00 pm), we will be collecting items for the North Avenue
Food Pantry. We invite you to enter into this celebration of
service and giving by bringing a monetary donation or non-
perishable food item with you to the Mass on Holy
Thursday. During the preparation of the altar and gifts, we
will ask members of the assembly to process forward with
their items and place them in the baskets near the altar.
Thank you.

LITURGY OF THE WORD
Isaiah 50:4-7 The suffering servant speaks to the weary.
Psalm 22 “My God, my God, why have you abandoned
Me?”
Philippians 2:6-11 Jesus emptied Himself, and God filled
This emptiness with exaltation.
Luke 23:1-49 The Passion of Our Lord, Jesus Christ
Listening today to Luke’s account of the Passion, we hear of
the supreme confidence Jesus had in His Father and His
Father’s will. Isaiah also exudes confidence in the face of
abuse, holding his head high as he places his trust in the
Lord God. Saint Paul testified that by humbling himself and
submitting to his Father’s will, Jesus was glorified by God
the Father. May we also know that confidence in God’s will
as we listen to God’s word.

GUIDELINES FOR GOOD FRIDAY
The following guidelines for Good Friday are intended to
help Catholics observe fast and abstinence requirements
since Good Friday, in particular, is one of the most im-
portant penitential days of the liturgical year.
· The rule of fasting states that only one full meal a day
can be taken. Two small meals, “sufficient to maintain
strength”, are allowed, but together should not equal
another full meal. Eating between meals breaks the
fast, but drinking liquids does not. The rule of fasting
obliges all Catholics from 18 to 59.
· Abstinence r efers to the eating of meat. The common
estimation of the community is used to determine what
falls under the category of meat. The rule of abstinence
binds all Catholics 14 years or older.
CRS RICE BOWL
Please return your CRS Rice Bowls to the Church or the
Parish Office this week. Thank you to all who participated
in this Lenten program of almsgiving. May God bless your
generosity.
EASTER FLOWERS FOR ST. JOSEPH CATHEDRAL

you to use if you wish to make a donation for flowers to
decorate our Cathedral at Eastertime in memory of a loved
one. List their names on the envelope and put the envelope
