B RATING – Displacement hull vessels such as mid-water trawlers, purse seiners, crew and supply boats, ferries, and towboats where locks, sandbars, and curvesdictate frequent slowing, and engine load and speed are constant with somecycling.
A RATING – For heavy-duty service in ocean-going displacement hulls such asfreighters, tugboats, bottom drag trawlers, and deep river towboats when theengine is operated at rated load and speed up to 100% of the time withoutinterruption or load cycling.

Ratings are based on SAE J1228/ISO8665standard conditions of 100 kPa (29.61 in Hg) and25° C (77° F). These ratings also apply atISO3046/1, DIN6271, and BS5514 standardconditions of 100 kPa (29.61 in Hg), 27° C (81° F),and 60% relative humidity.
Fuel rates are based on fuel oil of 35° API [16° C (60° F)] gravity having an LHV of 42 780 kJ/kg (18 390 Btu/lb) when used at 29° C (85° F) andweighing 838.9 g/liter (7.001 lbs/U.S. gal).
Additional ratings may be available for specific customer requirements. Consult your Caterpillarrepresentative for details.
E – Planing hull vessels such as pleasure craft, harbor patrol, harbor master, and somefishing and pilot boats.
D – Planing hull vessels such as off-shore patrolboats, customs, police, and some fire andfishing boats. Also used for bow and sternthrusters.
C – Planing hull vessels such as ferries, fishingboats moving at higher speeds out and back(i.e. lobster, crayfish, and tuna), off-shoreservice boats, and also displacement hullyachts and short trip coastal freighters whereengine load and speed are cyclical.
B – Displacement hull vessels such as mid-watertrawlers, purse seiners, crew and supplyboats, ferries, and towboats where locks, sandbars, and curves dictate frequentslowing, and engine load and speed areconstant with some cycling.
A – For heavy-duty service in ocean-goingdisplacement hulls such as freighters, tugboats, bottom drag trawlers, and deepriver towboats when the engine is operatedat rated load and speed up to 100% of thetime without interruption or load cycling.

* Represents performance along a typical fixed pitch propeller curve.** Power rated in accordance with NMMA procedure as crankshaft power. For units equipped with Caterpillar-supplied marine gears,
reduce crankshaft power by 3% for propeller shaft power.
Fuel use reflects SAE standards. Fuel use reflecting ISO standards is typically 2-3% less. Consult your Caterpillar representative for details.

RATING CONDITIONS & DEFINITIONSRatings are based on SAE J1349 standard conditions of 100 kPa (29.61 in Hg) and 25˚ C (77˚ F).These ratings also apply at ISO3046/1,DIN6271, and BS5514 standard conditions of 100 kPa (29.61 in Hg), 27˚ C (81˚ F) and 60% relative humidity. Ratings are valid for air cleanerinlet temperatures up to and including 50° C (122° F) and for sea watertemperatures up to and including 42° C (108° F) at sea level.
Fuel consumption has a tolerance of +5% and is based on fuel oil of 35° API [16° C (60° F)] gravity having an LHV of 42 780 kJ/kg (18,390 Btu/lb) when used at 29° C (85° F) and weighing 838.9 g/liter(7.001 lbs/US gal). Fuel consumption shown with all oil, fuel, and waterpumps, engine driven. For a “without pumps” condition, deductapproximately 0.5% for each pump not engine driven.
Additional ratings may be available for specific customer requirements.Consult your Caterpillar representative for details.

Ratings are marine classification society approvedby ABS, BV, CCS, DnV, GL, KR, LRS, NKK, RINA, andRS. These societies have also granted 3600 factoryline production approval which eliminatesrequirement for society surveyor witness test.
FUEL CAPABILITY
The 3600 family of engines is developed foroperation on fuel with viscosity and contaminatesup to CIMAC Class K55 (700 cSt @ 50° C). Thepower ratings listed apply to distillate fuels, including most grades of marine diesel oil. Heavyfuel ratings are 9% less than distillate fuel andrequire factory approval.

RATING CONDITIONS AND DEFINITIONS
For high speed commercial application.
Approximate load profile: 85% of operating hoursat rated power, 15% of hours at <50% rated power.TBO approximately 20-25,000 hours. INT: Poweravailable for use during acceleration and othertransient conditions. CONT: Power available forcontinuous service. Propeller demand curves areshown through 100% power. The propulsion system design should consider heavy ship condition, sea state, hull fouling, and propulsionsystem power losses for proper match betweenengine and prop/jet.
Ratings are based on SAE J1349 standard conditions of 100 kPa (29.61 in Hg) and 25° C (77° F). These ratings also apply at ISO3046/1,ISO8665, DIN6271, and BS5514 standard referenceconditions. Ratings also meet classification societymaximum temperature requirements of 45° C (113° F) temperature to turbo and 32° C (90° F) seawater temperature without derate.
Fuel Consumption is based on ISO3046/1 with +5%tolerance at rated power for fuel having an LHV of42,780 kJ/kg (18,390 Btu/lb) and weighing 838.9g/liter (7.001 lbs/U.S. gal). Includes engine-mount-ed fresh water and lube oil pumps. SFOC withoutpumps 2% less.
