ForewordTHOSE years spent in college are significant in the

life of any individual. They serve the student as do

the beacon lights along the rocky coast serve the cap-

tain of a tossing vessel—pointing the way to a life

mingled with hardships and pleasures and enabling

him to select the best and discard the rest.

One's college years are the time for making newand lasting friendships; the time for broadening one's

intellectual and spiritual horizon; and the time for

strengthening character and developing personality.

Realizing that the chief value of any yearbook is

to enable the individual to live again his college ex-

periences and to recall old acquaintances, we have

endeavored to make The 1935 Catamount a true

reflection of Western Carolina Teacher's College as it

has been during 1934-1935.

To the faculty and students of Western Carolina

Teacher's College, we submit this, our third annual

yearbook. If it will only serve to bring, in later years,

some small amount of pleasure, our efforts will be

rewarded.
