Reverso

The Reverso was born in 1931, in a period when British colonial army officers stationed in India were keen to find a timepiece able to survive the inevitable hard knocks sustained in polo tournaments. The legen-dary reversible case, which swivels 180 degrees to protect the dial, has remained avant-garde throughout the decades since its creation, representing a complex technical accomplishment comprising over 50 parts. Right from the start, the Reverso was enthusiastically received among devotees of Fine Watchmaking as well as aesthetes with a taste for Art Deco styling, firmly establishing itself as a timeless classic.

The Reverso offers a unique space for personalisation. To fulfill the wishes of connoisseurs, the Manufacture has developed a broad array of decorative techniques ranging from engraving to gem-setting and the ancestral art of enamel miniature painting.

Over the years, its back has taken on the most diverse faces. It can display a second time zone with the Reverso Duo concept, or be fitted with a sapphire crystal to reveal the movement. The Reverso Duetto shows a different face on each of its two dials, both driven by a single movement. The admirably restrained ultra-thin models asso-ciate classically pure lines and perfectly harmonious proportions with breathtaking slenderness.

An ultra-thin skeleton movementIts 2.08 mm ultra-thin movement is entirely openworked and decorated by hand. It reveals the intricacies of its gear trains sculpted in a manner that leaves nothing to chance. The artisan has patiently removed material using the blade of a tiny saw in order to create an ideally light, airy effect – the main challenge being to guarantee impeccable reliability. All its sides have then been individually drawn out, bevelled, polished, chased and engraved by hand.

Chronometry limited edition in 950 platinumThis exceptional model was issued in a limited series in its 950 platinum version as a tribute to the success achieved by the Manufacture Jaeger-LeCoultre in winning the first International Chronometry Competition in 2009.

A sophisticated tourbillonThe tourbillion carriage is made from a special, particularly light grade 5 titanium alloy enabling a maximum reduction in energy consumption. This carriage features entirely hand-polished angles. The 78 parts of the tourbillon, including a large balance, weigh only 0.28 grams in all.

A non-stop horological showThe date indication is equipped with an ingenious mechanism enabling adjustment in both directions and making it jump between the 15th and the 16th so as not to hide the tourbillon carriage from view. The dial also offers a travel time zone indication that is easily adjustable via the crown, as well as displaying the reference time in 24-hour mode.

A flying tourbillonThis timepiece is entirely dedicated to the measurement of astronomical time. The flying tourbillon acts as an hour hand and does not indicate mean time, like the majority of wristwatches, but instead the unit used by astronomers to follow the trajectory of celestial bodies: sidereal time.

A zodiac calendarThe dial reproduces the sky chart of the Northern Hemisphere. A sun rotates around the dial circumference in exactly 24 hours and indicates the zodiac signs, the months and the days appearing on a circular scale appearing on the outer rim.

Operating at a high frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour, their movements incorporate the latest Jaeger-LeCoultre innovations such as the variable-inertia balance or lubricant-free ceramic ball bearings. The revolutionary Dual-Wing movement of the Duomètre line is com-posed of two independent mechanisms united by a shared regulating organ, yet each has its own energy source and its own going train. One of the mechanisms supplies the most regular possible flow of force to the balance, while the other controls the functions, keeping step with the pace set by the other.

The case of the Duomètre watches features polished logs and a satin-brushed caseband. The grained dials feature remarkable readability, while the nickel silver movement bridges are adorned with a decora-tive motif inspired by the grand tradition of Jaeger-LeCoultre pocket watches.

2012. To create this Jaeger-LeCoultre Calibre 382, no less than 460 components had to

be assembled, of which 105 for the Sphérotourbillon® alone! Adding up all the operations

AMVOX2 Transponder

A revolutionary mechanism: the transponderThe watch incorporates a built-in transmitter micro-system for activating and deactivating the locking system of all Aston Martin cars, while retaining the functions of the vertical-trigger chronograph. The miniaturisation of the transponder, its wiring and its transmitter antenna were completely redesigned from a watchmaking perspective. The development required 18 months of research by Jaeger-LeCoultre with intense collaboration from Aston Martin. The antenna is metallised on the internal surface of the sapphire crystal in a shape following the curve of the dial and is connected to the locking control contact rectangles. The two contact rectangles serve to activate three automobile functions: opening and closing of the doors (OPEN/CLOSE), while simultaneously pressing both lights up the headlamps of the Aston Martin to facilitate locating the car (FIND ME).

Thinnest minute repeater watchAt just 7.9 mm thick in all and housing a slender 4.8 mm movement, it is the thinnest repeater watch.

World first: a flying tourbillon fitted with a flying balance-wheelIt reduces the movement thickness offering a spectacular plunging view into the heart of this system with its steadily beating blued balance-spring. The latter features two terminal curves ensuring perfect concentric development, as well as excellent chronometric (precision-timing) performances.

The combination of these two distinct and fast rotations (15 and 30 seconds respectively) serves to compensate for the effects of gravity in all positions.

First tourbillon watch adjustable to the secondThe use of the Dual-Wing concept enabled the watchmakers of the Manufacture to create the first tourbillon adjustable to within one-second accuracy. A push-piece serves to reset the small seconds to zero, according to the flyback principle that offers the advantage of not impeding the operating of the regulating organ. The small seconds hand thus returns to zero and starts running again immediately. The watch thereby preserves maximum precision even when setting the time.

A new generation of complication watchesAt the heart of this three-dimensional device beats a balance-spring that is no longer flat like its traditional counterparts, but instead cylinder-shaped such as one finds in 18th century marine chronometers. A flying tourbillonThis timepiece is entirely dedicated to the measurement of astronomical time. The flying tourbillon acts as an hour hand and does not indicate mean time, like the majority of wristwatches, but instead the unit used by astronomers to follow the trajectory of celestial bodies: sidereal time.

A zodiac calendarThe dial reproduces the sky chart of the Northern Hemisphere. A sun rotates around the dial circumference in exactly 24 hours and indicates the zodiac signs, the months and the days appearing on a circular scale appearing on the outer rim.

A pure soundThe acoustic quality of a watch depends mainly on the gongs. In order to emit the purest and most melodious possible tone, Jaeger-LeCoultre has developed a crystal cathedral gong achieving an exceptional rich sound. These gongs are machined all of a piece from a special alloy.

Master Compressor Extreme LAB

First entirely lubricant-free watchThis watch does away with the need for any oils or greases in the movement. The lever and the escape-wheel are coated in oxidised silicon. For the first time in the history of Jaeger-LeCoultre, an Easium® carbonitride-cased high-tech ceramic has been used to replace the traditional bearings that require lubrication of the components. For the balance, eliminating the shock-absorbing device required the development of a reinforced Teflon®-alloy pivoting system. Barrel grease has been replaced by a mixture of graphite powder. Its mechanism is capable of performing at a high level for many years while maintaining its precision and its reliability. Even at temperatures of less than 40°C, when the oils and greases used in classic watches freeze and bring the movement to a halt, this watch continues imperturbably running at its usual rate.

Extreme technical sophisticationThe oscillating weight is composed of a carbon fibre base and a platinum/iridium segment. A patented construction of the balance serves to maximise its aerodynamic characteristics. The latter are achieved by the use of a platinum/ruthenium alloy boasting a high density that serves to reduce the aerodynamic friction surfaces.

The case: a compendium of innovationsThree patents have been filed for the case: one for its unprecedented construction based on a carbon fibre middle encapsulated within a system incorporating the grade 5 titanium lugs; another for the suspension-mounted movement with a polyurethane shock-absorbing system (Silentbloc®) ; and a third for the four-notch wristband adjustment system.

Reverso Grande Complication à Triptyque

Standard timeThe accuracy of the standard time indication is ensured by the tourbillon, equipped with an ultra-light 0.08-gram titanium carriage and a large balance.

Sidereal time displayed on the backThe sky chart appearing on a disc at the centre of the patented zodiac calendar reveals the constellations visible from a given latitude. It performs a complete rotation in 23 hours, 56 minutes and 4 seconds, and indicates sidereal time – complemented by an equation of time display along with sunrise and sunset indications.

Perpetual time on a third faceThe cradle or base of the reversible case provides an unprecedented space for the instantaneous perpetual calendar indications. The retrograde date display is activated via an ingenious transmission system. Every evening, at exactly midnight, the movement gives an impulse to the base in order to update all the calendar information.

Atmos

The Atmos has been living on air and in tune with the times since its creation in 1928. This famous clock was invented by engineer Jean-Leon Reutter and it has since been developed and tirelessly perfected in the workshops of the Manufacture. The Atmos measures the passing hours with a constancy that even time cannot alter.

Its almost-perpetual movement operates using an infinitely small amount of energy supplied by its mechanism which is constantly wound by a capsule filled with a mixture of gases and interdependent with the mainspring of the clock. A mere one-degree fluctuation in tempera-ture is enough to provide this watch with a two-day power-reserve. Hanging from a steel alloy wire thinner than a hair’s breadth, its balance performs just two vibrations per minute. The gearing is so perfect that it requires no lubricant.

The time of the Atmos clock belongs to a realm that is beyond human grasp: the moon-phase model, for example, will accumulate a one-day discrepancy only once every 3,821 years.

Over the years, the magic of the Atmos poses an irresistible fascina-tion to artists. This full-fledged objet d’art is thus naturally destined to be regularly revisited through limited editions, including meticulously decorated cabinets calling upon traditional ornamental techniques such as marquetry and inspired by famous works of art.

A full-fledged work of artDedicated to Gustav Klimt, Jaeger-LeCoultre introduces a new limited series of the Atmos Marqueterie clock, a perfect embodiment of Art Nouveau values reinterpreted in harmony with the hand-crafted traditions of the Manufacture. Its cabinet faithfully reproduces the artist’s work Expectation. This Atmos clock is a truly exceptional creation featuring 35 prestigious wood varieties and over 1,400 meticulously fashioned wooden elements.

Automatically opening cabinetThe cabinet is equipped with an automatic opening system, an ingenious mechanism that serves to alternately hide or show the clock simply by pressing a button cleverly conceals beneath the ornamentation of this precious exterior. The sprung mechanism thereby unveils an inner glass crystal cabinet revealing the timepiece itself.

A refined dialIn harmony with the precious marquetry adorning the cabinet, the refined dial is graced with mother-of-pearl inlays along with hour-markers in petrified wood apart from the cushion-cut yellow sapphire 60-minute marker. The petrified wood moon disc is studded with diamonds and the moon is finely gilded.

The clock indeed displays the moon phase with peerless accuracy. Whereas a traditional timepiece shows a one-day deviation from the lunar cycle every 122 years, the Atmos clock takes 3,821 years to accumulate such a one-day difference.
