Our state of the art equipment enables us to master new bit designs in the shortest time and provides products quality conformance with the international standards. All Volgaburmash, JSC products undergo quality control at each manufacturing stage. Since 1997, the Company has established certified Quality Management System that meets ISO standards and API Q1 specification.

The Company carries out continuous technical modernization of production. Currently, Volgabur-mash, JSC is equipped with the most advanced multi-axis machining centers, furnaces, heat-treatment machines, welding and hardfacing units purchased from the world’s leading producers.

Volgaburmash, JSC was founded in 1948 and is currently the largest and the most advanced Russian rock cutting tools producing company.

The Company manufactures over 1000 rock bit designs for oil and gas industry ranging from 3 3/4” to 26” in diameter with milled teeth and tungsten carbide inserts; over 80 standard sizes of mining rock bits ranging from 5 1/8” to 15 1/2” in diameter for compressed-air drill ing in various mining and geological conditions. Also, Volgaburmash manu-factures over 350 designs of PDC bits with matrix or steel bodies for various drill ing applications ranging from 3 1/4” to 17 1/2” in diameter, PDC core bits for core drill ing, stabilizers, string stabilizers and near-bit stabilizers.

Volgaburmash, JSC has also imple-mented Environment Management System and Health and Safety Management System according to ISO 14001:2004 and OHSAS 18001:2007 requirements.

Since the Company was founded, Vol-gaburmash, JSC specialists have developed over 1600 drill bit designs. Many of these design solutions are of international novelty. Their authors and the Company have obtained more than 300 inventor’s certificates and patents for inventions in Russia and 17 other countries. Over fifteen hundred in-novations have been put into production.

Having its proprietary patented technical research and software developments enables Volgaburmash, JSC to manufacture highly competitive drill bits modified for customer specific applications.

Cutting structureThis product line may have either milled teeth or TCI. To increase bit life, steel teeth are hardfaced with wear-resistant tungsten carbide based material. Depending on the rock hard-ness, either side surfaces or side and end surfaces of steel teeth are hardfaced.

The gauge may be protected with tungsten carbide inserts. For additional protection against gauge loss, a near gauge of tungsten carbide inserts may be used.

Lubrication systemBit lubrication system is designed to com-

pensate grease consumption and pressure during long-term operation. It consists of a grease reservoir with a rigidly mounted cap, a flexible diaphragm, a metal canister protecting the diaphragm from breakage, and channels to connect the grease reservoir with friction areas in bearings.

Shirttail and leg protection

Shirttail or shirttail and leg lead-ing edge are hardfaced and may have tungsten carbide inserts.

Drill bits with sealed bearing for drilling small diameter wells (less than 6 3/4”). Slimhole bits are ideal to drill for liner.In Slimhole bits, both friction and roller bear-ings can be used. In friction bearings, antifric-tion wear-resistant materials and silver coating are used.

Cutting structureThis product line may have either milled

teeth or TCI. Cutting structure designed with advanced software systems provides effective drilling of any rock type and prolongs bit life. To increase steel teeth life, a patented mate-rial is used that consists of a mixture of spherical cast tungsten carbide and small hard-alloy grains. Depending on the rock hard-ness, either side surfaces or side and end surfaces of steel teeth are hardfaced. The gauge may be protected with tungsten carbide inserts. For additional protection against gauge loss, a near gauge of tungsten carbide inserts may be used.

The gauge and the near gauge rows may include diamond-coated tungsten carbide in-serts. Depending on the application, these inserts may come up to 30%, 50% or 100% of the total amount of inserts.

Large diameter bits (over 15 1/2”) with open bear-ings are designed for drilling upper well sections (surface hole drilling). Without sealing elements in the bearing, it is possible to maximize the journal and the rollers dimensions and to achieve full circulation in the bearing which is highly important as it helps reduction of the torque, providing quick cooling action and increasing bearing life.

SingleSmall and medium diameter one-cone bits with sealed bearings are designed for deep drilling and provide increased bit life as compared with three-cone bits.Single bits have uniform friction bearings with hard-faced surfaces.Their strong bearing, powerful cutting structure and high thickness of the cone ensure accident-free highly-efficient performance at greatest depths.When fitted with PDC cutters such bits perfectly cope with high loading during forced drilling practices.The shape of the cone accounts for semispherical cutting at bottom hole. The absence of the gauge relief typical of the three-cone bits, as well as the legs facing the wellbore wall and preventing the quick change of the direction make the one-cone drill bits of the Single Product Line indispensable during horizontal and directional drilling with high build rate.

Cutting structurePatented cutting structure of Single bits is

represented with tungsten carbide hoof-shaped inserts with sharp curvilinear cutting edge, project-ing above the cone body by 5-7mm and having various layout patterns, as well as PDC cutters. Depending on the drilling applications, it is pos-sible to alternate TCI and PDC cutters.

To improve durability of the cutting structure, enhance the performance and reduce casing wear, full surface of the cone can be coated with pat-ented protector by means of detonation spraying.

Hole-openers

Bladed and rock bit hole-openers up to 920 mm (36 1/4 inch) in diameter are used for hole-opening while drilling oil and gas wells, as well as at any sites due to technical factors, including the regions of the Far North. A hole-opener combined with a pilot bit can replace a large diameter bit.Several patented original technical solutions were implemented in hole-openers design. String stabilizers are designed to balance drill string and downhole motor, to stabilize or modify well-bore trajectory.

Application:Drilling soft, medium, hard and solid formations (MCTK type).

Design:Bearing sur faces of the blades are hardfaced with wear-

resistant material to prevent early wear. PDC cutters on the bearing sur faces improve durability of string stabilizers.

Application:Opening oil and gas wells as well as using when

building oil and gas pipelines and different utility systems in soft, medium and hard formations, borehole is washed with water or drilling mud.

Design:The hole-openers are manufactured from sec-

tions of roller cone bits with sealed or open bearings, with TCI or milled cutting structure.

Application:Opening bore hole in different types of formations: from soft with medium interlayers to hard formations.

Design:Work sur faces of the hole-opener are applied

with wear-resistant material to prevent early wear of the blades. PDC cutters on the gauge improve wear-resistance of the design.
