Anna Lotan PRO is an original product line developed by Anna Lotan Laboratories for skin care professionals. This line provides advanced salon treatments combined with home care solutions for different skin conditions.

The versatile range of functional home care products is exclusively distributed by licensed estheticians on the basis of “face to face” diagnosis! In order to select and “prescribe” the optimized minimum exactly for the individual needs of each client.

The PRO line is supported by trial packs for each retail product to provide security to customers who prefer preliminary testing.

What makes the Anna Lotan PRO range unique?The fundamental guideline of any PRO formulation is functionality, emphasizing treatment results. However, this goal (that does not justify all means) is counterbalanced by an uncompromised preference for maximal comfort during use.

The idea that “beauty requires a sacrifice” is in contrast with the Anna Lotan PRO approach which regards as healthy, an organ (including the skin) that does not transmit any signals.* ● Most of the building blocks of the PRO line are sustainable, naturally derived ingredients. The preservative systems are Paraben free. The cleansing components are SLS free and selected from the mildest available vegetable raw material. ● Many of the herbal extracts are pure, solvent free, highly concentrated CO2 extracts. ● Key formulations are bio-mimetic (using components that mimic the skin’s own water and oil soluble constituents). Facial Cleansers & Makeup RemoversThe skin is the body’s protective organ which should be properly maintained to ensure its effective functioning.Skin cleansing is part of this maintenance routine!For generations the (traditional) bar of soap has been almost the only means for cleansing. Today, we have at our disposal a wide range of cleansing products that represent different approaches:

● Detergent based liquid soap (in various compositions).Sulphate based cleansers are gradually being replaced by sustainable, vegetable derived alternatives which are friendlier to skin. Unlike alkaline bar soaps, the pH of “soapless” cleansers may be adapted to that of the skin. Bar Soaps, when combined with “hard water”, form a complex of insoluble residue that stays on the bathtub walls and on the skin, while synthetic detergents leave none.

● Cleansing lotions formulated as emulsions, combining the antagonistic oil and water using the aid of surfactants. These include hydrophilic (water based) lotions that may be used by all skin types and oil based lotions that best serve dry skin types. Their properties and functionality depend on the quality of their oils, surfactants and preservative systems.

● Cream gel – a 3D configuration of oil and water particles without the aid of surfactants.Pleasant and gentle on the skin, due to the absence of drying surfactants, they will normally be suitable for sensitive skin. Following use, this type of cleanser usually leaves a fine oily film on the skin’s surface, making it suitable for normal to dry skin.

● Hydrophilic oils.Although effective in dissolving makeup (even water resistant), their fluidity limits the ability to control precise application on required areas. Oil may accidentally slip into the vulnerable area of the eyes causing discomfort! It is best left for use of professionals.

● Hydrophilic lipogel (oil based).Effectively dissolves makeup and sebum residues in enlarged pores of oily, problem and combination skin types.

Why is evening cleansing so important?

● To minimize the effects of free radicals. These may be formed in oily or makeup residues and accelerate hyper-pigmentation when exposed to UV light on the next day.

Functional TonersFacial toners are commonly used to complete the cleansing process. With the evolvement of new ingredients for cosmetic care, the skin care industry has been able to add new and versatile functions to facial toners which are also available in the PRO range:

Moisture binding – water soluble hygroscopic components, especially those that are naturally present in the skin (biomimetic components), such as Urea, Hyaluronic Acid, mineral salts, amino acids and polysaccharides [especially suitable for normal to dry skin].

Minimizing microbial flora on the skin’s surface – components that are temporarily dissolved in the toner but remain as a fine protective film on the skin when the water part of the formula evaporates. These include resins such as Propolis, Pistacia Lentiscus, Myrrh and Boswellia that serve to improve the hygienic conditions on the skin’s surface [especially suitable for combination and oily skin].

Chemical peels (AHA) – based on the exfoliating properties of AH Acids (glycolic, lactic, tartaric, citric, etc.) which are water soluble. Their intensity depends on several parameters:The total acids (%) in the formula, the final pH level, the duration of skin’s exposure to the acid and the presence (or concentration) of skin protective lipids in the formula that diminish the harshness of the acids.An AHA based peel acts mainly on the skin’s surface (relatively non-intrusive into deeper skin layers). However, if it exceeds the skin’s tolerance level of the individual it may cause tingling and irritation, followed by mild or severe redness and even over-drying and burns. Regulation in most countries limits the concentration allowed for professional and home use of the acids (usually up to 16%) and the final pH of the product (3.0 – 3.50).

Chemical peels (BHA) – are based on the exfoliating activity of Salicylic Acid which is non-water-soluble. Salicylic acid penetrates deeper than AHAs and is therefore suitable for deep cleansing of problem oily skin with enlarged pores. Its purifying, anti-microbial property gives an additional treatment advantage when treating blemished, acne prone skin. The risk of irritation while using this ingredient is reduced when used as a rinse-off product (a wash or a cleanser, etc.). International regulation usually limits the concentration of this acid in cosmetic (non-drug) products to 2%.

Enzymatic peels – are usually based on fruit derived enzymes such as Pineapple, Papaya, etc. There is a difficulty in controlling the intensity of the enzymatic activity of these peels. They should therefore not be used on fragile or thin skin.

Mechanical peels – based on abrasive particles incorporated in a creamy texture or attached to a manual or another device and are used to polish the skin’s surface. If the particles do not dissolve during regular use, the user (professional or consumer) has no indication as to how long the polishing activity is to be continued. This indicates that the scrubbing activity poses a risk of over-polishing! Mechanical peels are especially suitable for skin with enlarged pores which is thicker and more resistant by nature. Meso-therapy is somewhat similar to mechanical peels as it uses a rolling, cutting device that injures the skin mechanically, rather than chemically, to accelerate skin renewal.

A Peel is a resurfacing treatment designed to exfoliate the upper epidermal layers in order to deep cleanse, smooth and improve skin texture and at the same time to stimulate skin renewal.

Oily Problem (acne prone) Skin –Oily skin is characterized by abundant sweat as well as sebum secretions which encourage bacterial growth in the skin pores and on its surface. In addition, the relatively warm body temperature that is maintained due to limited ventilation in various sleeping positions, only intensifies the problem. Therefore, an effective evening cleansing [811P, 365P] is required to prevent pores from being clogged with sebum residues and for maintaing good surface hygiene. The use of absorbent powders [008P], may also contribute to minimizing availability of free water and thus limiting microbial growth.The use of occlusive products should be avoided completely as they may only increase the oily residues in the skin pores and raise the temperature even further.

Sensitive Combination Skin with T-zone problems (Seborrhea)-In cases of visible T-zone redness, a light, calming moisturizer is recommended [171P]. This should be applied after cleansing the skin with a mild cleanser that is suitable for sensitive skin, but enjoys, at the same time, a broad hygienic profile [270P]. Using a delicate exfoliant [811P] to smooth the skin and remove dead skin cells layers, 1-2 times weekly, will significantly improve surface hygiene and prevent irritations and redness! From Time to time, an occlusive product may be required (for local use only!) due to its enhanced penetration [377P]. In most cases a single application will achieve the desired effect.

Normal to Dry Skin – Dry skin is naturally equipped with smaller and less active sebaceous glands. It’s natural protective layer is insufficient for maintaining skin elasticity and moisture retention. The skin tends to lose its vital natural moisturizing factors as age progresses.

A good example for a non-occlusive mask is the Seaweed (alginate) mask that sets in a thick film on the skin that may appear occlusive but is actually cooling!Occlusive masks are composed entirely of oily components (such as paraffin masks) or are formulated as oil based (water-in-oil) emulsions. These masks form an occlusive film on the skin, causing a slight rise in skin temperature since water from evaporation is sealed in. In turn, this leads to gradual (internal) hydration resulting in softening of the skin. These masks are unsuitable for oily or sensitive skin with broken capillaries.
