GOODS ELEVATORS

TRACTION TYPE

Traction types are best suited for mid and high rise structures. They are lifted by ropes, which pass over a wheel attached to an electric motor above the elevator shaft. One end of the rope is connected to the cabin and the other to the counter weights which is fixed at the back or side of the Cabin. There are three types of traction elevators.

Geared Traction Elevator:

In this type of mechanism the wheel is directly attached to the motor.

In this type of mechanism there is a gearbox attached to the motor, which drives the wheel that moves the rope which is attached to the cabin and the counter-weight.

Gearless Traction Elevator:

This is the typical traction elevator which are gearless machines that do not require a dedicated machine room above the elevator shaft. The machine sits in the overhead space and the controls sit above the ceiling adjacent to the elevator shaft. These are becoming more popular nowadays.
