Born of Real Strength

In Brazilian Portuguese the word LUTA means to fight, to struggle, to never give up.

This is the LUTA story…

In 2000, in the favela of Complexo da Maré in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, a small boxing club called Luta Pela Paz (Fight for Peace) was founded. Like most favela communities, Maré is divided by heavily armed drug factions and residents are plagued by daily gun violence, social exclusion and economic hardship.

Fight for Peace offered a way out for young people who wanted a different future. Over time this small boxing club has grown into a multi-combat sport and education Academy, creating champions both in and out of the ring.

The club’s founder, Luke Dowdney, a former amateur boxer from the UK, discovered there was much more to the favela than the guns, drugs, poverty and victimisation portrayed by the world’s media.

He discovered Real Strength in the fighters he trained.

The Real Strength needed to never quit in the face of adversity. To put in the hours and stand tall despite the hardships the favela can hold. To never stop believing you can be a champion, no matter the odds.

This Real Strength is the inspiration behind LUTA, a collection of fight wear, training wear and street wear that brings together real fight performance, favela style and a genuine social mission to support the young champions of Fight for Peace.
