WARNING:All bimetal thermometers should be selected considering the media and the ambient operating conditions. Improper application can be detrimental to the ther- mometer, cause failure and pos- sibly personal injury or property damage. Inaccuracies resulting from improper setting of the external adjustment by the user may cause personal injury or property damage. Consult ASME B40.3 for guidance in selection and use of bimetal thermometers .

TEMPERATURE RANGESStandard Fahrenheit and Celsius ranges havebeen established to encompass all normaltemperature measurement requirements. Abimetal thermometer can be used at an oper-ating temperature anywhere throughout its dialrange. Provision should be made for extremetemperature conditions. No bimetal thermome-

ter should be exposed continuously to processtemperatures over 800°F (425°C).

OPERATING CONDITIONSThe maximum ambient temperature of thecase should be no more than 200 °F (95 °C);liquid filled 150 °F (65 °C). Temperatures beyondthis value may cause discoloration of the dialor result in increased pressure inside the cas-ing which could ultimately lead to the failure ofthe window. The lowest ambient temperatureshould not exceed – 40°F ( – 40 °C).

THERMOWELLSThermowells must be used on any applicationwhere the stem of the bimetal thermometermay be exposed to pressure, corrosive fluidsor high velocity. Additionally, the use of a ther-mowell permits instrument interchange or cali-bration check without disturbing or closingdown the process.

POINTERSThe pointers are balanced to close tolerancesand the paint finishes are controlled to assurelong-term stability under adverse ultravioletconditions.

CASESThere are three case styles. The CI series hasno adjustment but is hermetically sealed. TheEI series has an external adjustment and ishermetically sealed. The EL series providesthe same features as the EI plus the addedbenefit of liquid filling. The instruments areleak tested to ensure the integrity of the joints.

Case and stem material is 304 stainless steel.

COILSThe bimetallic coils are carefully wound andinspected. Each is heat treated for optimumstability and overtemperature capability.

BEARINGSThe bearings are made of Teflon or other lowfriction material.

SHAFTSShafts are made of specially drawn stainlesssteel wire with a very smooth finish.

DIALSThe dials are based on computer-calculatedtemperature deflection data and have theMaxivision ® format to minimize parallax error.

WINDOWSThe standard windows are heavy-duty glass.Plastic and shatterproof glass are optional.

The complete line of Ashcroft industrialbimetal thermometers and accessoriesprovides quality choices for your temper-ature applications. There is a long historyof superior quality in engineering, manu-facturing and customer service of theseproducts. Each Ashcroft industrialbimetal thermometer is backedby a limited five year warranty.

Each instrument is man-ufactured to a standardaccuracy of 1% of span(ASME B40.3, Grade A)traceable to the NationalInstitute of Standards andTechnology (NIST). Thebimetal coils are heat treat-

ed for stability and overtem-perature capability. A singlehelix is used to reduce lagtime. The bearings are made of alow-friction long-life material. Theshafts are made of specially drawn stain-less steel with a very smooth finish. All

joints are welded, and the weld betweenthe stem and the outlet is located at thebottom of the threads to eliminate thepossibility of crevice corrosion.

Silicone dampening is included forimproved vibration resistance. TheAshcroft Maxivision ® dial eliminatesparallax error by placing the pointer inthe same plane as the graduations. Thedial can be rotated 360 degrees and canbe angled 180 degrees with theEveryangle ™ connection.

To meet your emergency deliveryrequirements, Dresser InstrumentDivision offers the GoldService sm delivery program.Ashcroft industrial bimetalthermometers can beshipped in 2 to 5 workingdays from ourStratford,Connecticut, USA,manufacturing plant. We also have an exten-sive stocking distributornetwork throughout theUnited States andinternational locations.

EI Case StyleThis series has a hermetically sealed

case and external adjustment.Connection locations are rear, lower andEveryangle. The hermetic seal prevents

entry of moisture into the casing, mini-mizing the possibility of icing or

    fogging inside the case.

CI Case StyleThis style is tamper resis-

    tant and hermeticallysealed. Connection

locations are rear andlower. The CI Series

    was designed forapplications where

    external adjustment

or pointer reset arenot desired. Hermetic

    sealing reduces theproblems created by

    moisture enteringthe case.

EL Case StyleThis series is liquid filled –

prolonging instrument life. Potentialwear problems caused by excessive

vibration are minimized throughdampening, and the liquid medium

improves readability. Externaladjustment is standard in

    the rear of the case.

    Everyangle CaseConnection

    This design providesmaximum utility. The

entire dial face canbe rotated 360 degrees, and angled 180 degrees

    by positioning theharness on the

back of the case. The instrument canbe installed almost

anywhere and can beadjusted so that

    the dial can beeasily read.
