Foundation Sector

Steel Sheet Piles

Mer Lion Metals provides a comprehensive range of sheet pilesolutions for a wide variety of project requirements and soilconditions. Sheet piles provides a fast, economic and reliableway of carrying out excavations, dredging and construction ofretaining wall.

Z Shape

Highly regarded as the best shape of sheet pile for permanentretaining wall construction. Its efcient shape providesunrivalled section modulus to mass ratios. By having itsinterlocks along the outer side of the prole, away from theneutral axis, it does not encounter oblique bending moment.It is widely used for wharf, piers, ports and drydocksworldwide.

U Shape (Hot and Cold Formed)

Its symmetrical shape makes for convenient handling anddriving. Our ability to offer both Hot Roll JIS standard pilesand comprehensive Cold Form range makes it a versertileshape which is used commonly for excavations and temporaryworks.

Combination Wall Products

Beams/Sheet Piles Walls (Cold Formed)

The combination of stiffness and strength support from thebeams, together with the watertightness and soil retainingcharacteristics of a shorter double Z pile, Beams/Sheet Pilewalls are suitable for high loading requirements. Used fordeep ports and large harbour construction.

Pipe/Sheet Piles Walls

Similar to Beams/Sheet Piles Wall, tubular piles provide themain retaining element while sheet piles act to transfer theloads and retain soil.

Tie Rods

Stability of quay walls depend on its anchoring system.Tie Rods absorb the forces and transfer it safely. Varioustypes of Tie Rods can be used and they are customedproduced to your requirements. All accessories and platesare provided as a set.

Steel Pipes

Spiral

Spiral Steel Pipes have been used as main retainingelements in foundation design due to its ability t owithstand high vertical loads as well as retain soil and earth

pressures when used in conjunction with sheet piles. Thesepipes are made of steel coils which range from8mm - 25mm in thickness. Outside Diameter range from400mm - 3000mm. Spiral Steel Pipes also allow continuousproduction of complete length without any joints.

LSAW and HFW

As spiral pipes are limited by the thickness of the coilsavailable, LSAW pipes can go beyond 25mm to as high as60mm. They are formed in JCOE mills which adopts majorinternational standards as per customers requirements.Longitudinal Welded and HFW pipes are versatile forapplications such as roof trusses, stadiums, bridges andother structural applications.

Product Range: Oil and GasIn this day and age, readily available resources such as oil and gas are fast depleting.Countries, NOCs and IOCs are turning to deeper, further and more remote locations around

the world to drill and mine. This insiatiable need to quench the Worlds increasing thirst forenergy has led to an increased importance in Quality, Standard and Safety of material used.At Mer Lion Metals, we understand that meeting these specications are paramount in theproducts we offer.

Pipe Products

Our pipe mills conform to API 5L Monogram and have beencertied by major standards such as DNV, ISO, EC, ASTM,DIN, BS, JIS, GB etc.

Longitudinal Welded Pipes (LSAW)

Welded pipes can be manufactured through 3 different pro-cesses. The three common methods commonly used in oil andgas are UOE, JCOE and HFW. Steel grades up to API 5L X80and Lengths of 18m long.

UOE Mills

UOE derives from the method of pressing steel plates to forma round steel pipe. A U shape is rst pressed followed by an

O and nally expanded to achieve roundness in the pipes.

Logitudinal Submerged Arc Welding or LSAW is then carriedout, rst on the inside and subsequently on the outside, toensure that the plates are formed into pipes.

Outside Diameter: 508mm - 1016mm (20 - 40)Wall Thickness : 6.0mm - 25.4mm (1/4 - 1)Length: 9m - 18m

JCOE Mills

JCOE differs from UOE in terms of its method of pressingplates into pipes. J shape, followed by C and then O isrst pressed before expansion process takes place.

Outside Diameter: 406mm - 1422mm (16 - 56)Wall Thickness: 6.0mm - 50mm (1/4 - 2)Lengths: 3 - 18m

HFW Mills

High Frequency Welded (HFW) pipes makes use of a highfrequency induction heating to weld plates into pipes.

Outside Diameter: 114mm - 711.2mm (4 - 28)Wall Thickness: 3.0mm - 25.4mm (1/8 - 1)Lengths: 3m - 18m

Bends

Depending on specications, Bends of various diameters andbending radius can be achieved. Kindly enquire for details.

Seamless Pipes and Fittings

Seamless pipes are hot formed and consist of no welds onthe pipe length. These pipes are suitable for line pipes andcasing applications.

Fittings in various size and steel materials are available.Refer to data sheet for standard seamless API 5L or ASTMschedule sizes.

Pipe Coating

As our mills have in-house coating facilities, the followingone stop solutions can be offered:

Product Testing

As per API 5L standards, we conduct UT and X-Ray when allincoming materials arrive, during the manufacturing processand nished product stages, to ensure no defomity or defectscan be found in the material. Hydrostatic testing is alsoconducted upon completion of the pipes. All readings arerecorded and kept for future references and pipes which do nomeet any of the stringent requirements will be duly rejected.

Raw Material Management and Handling

At Mer Lion Metals, we understand that the process is justas important as the nal product. Hence, we stress to ourmills to have in place adequate raw material managementand handling procedures so that tracking and traceabilitycan be ensured long after a pipe has been installed on site.
