What is CAT? Representing more than 30,000 accounting
professionals in the Philippines, the National
Institute of Accounting Technicians (NIAT)
takes pride in its Certified Accounting Tech-
nician (CAT) program. It prepares ac-
counting graduates and professionals by

PRACTICAL ACCOUNTING
MODULE 1
Recording Business Transactions
Understanding the basic principles of double entry
accounting
Understand the nature and accounting of a merchandising
business and how it differs with a service business
Analyze and record transactions in the accounts such as
purchases and sales
Prepare chart of accounts for a merchandising and service
business
Use T accounts to analyze transactions into debit and credit
parts
Compute total balances of accounts
Prepare trial balance and learn its purpose
MODULE 2
Drafting Financial Statements
Understand how the matching concept relates to and
supports the accrual basis of accounting
Analyze and clarify why adjustments are necessary
Make adjusting journal entries that will update the matching
process
Use six (6) column worksheet and prepare an adjusted trial
balance
Use worksheet that serves as a device for collecting and
summarizing data
Prepare classified financial statement from a worksheet
Prepare the adjusting and closing entries from a worksheet
Post the adjusting and closing trial balance
Prepare a multi-step and single-step income statement,
statement of owners equity and balance sheet for a
merchandising and service business.

1. Seat will be reserved upon payment of the prescribed fees stated in this Registration Form.
Refunds, Cancellation and Substitution Policies
1. Refunds will be honored if we received a written notice of cancellation 30 days prior to the start of the program and
must be faxed to 706-2212 or 706-4645. Cancellations received less than 30 days prior to the start of the program will
be charged 25% of the total program fee while those received one week prior to the start will be charged 50%.
2. No refund will be made for cancellations received after the stated deadline.
3. NIAT Philippines reserves the right to cancel, change venues, and facilitators due to factors beyond our control, and to
ensure learning effectiveness. In case of cancellation, seat can be moved to the next batch, or full refunds will be
given.
4. Substitutions for individuals can be made any time prior to event date.
